You’re making a lot of sense.

This policy will be counterproductive. It’s actually going to precipitate japa movements because why are you trying to hold medical professionals down?

The bill doesn’t make sense one bit. This 10th Assembly seems to be smoking weed now that their tenure is coming to an end.

There are lots of private universities in Nigeria and a lot of people are attending those Universities.

I’m definitely sure that if subsidy is removed on public tertiary education, the amount still can’t compete with the private university. Uniosun that I attended is fairly run independent of Odin State Govt and they charge 95k per session while I was there (I don’t know if they have increased it).

Those that can’t afford the fees can apply for scholarships and education loans with those conditions applied.

I do agree that medical personnel wages, allowances and welfare should be prioritized as they are critical essential workers.

We are saying the same thing

Anybody that can spend, say 10 million to study Medicine in Covenant, can comfortably go abroad.

If government schools begin to charge this equivalent, then 90% of the students will be at Walter Carrington immediately after their housemanship abi na homemanship

If you say Scholarship, you have narrowed the number, and we will have fewer doctors willing to commit for that 5 years

Did they just realise their skills will not be appreciated after they finished from medical school and got their license?

They actually have an option ab initio, go to the countries where their skills will be appreciated to study medicine.

It's not after you study with taxpayers money you carry the knowledge away from the same taxpayers who need your service.

It's not like they are totally preventing them from travelling. 5 years is all we ask for.

Do you even follow news properly?
The japa wave and rate of brain drain we are experiencing started with this apc government.

Doctors have not been leaving this country in an alarming rate till this party got into power.

This same party has come out through the minister to say the doctors should go and farm and even bragged about the graduates we are expecting from universities.
Instead of listening to the plight of these doctors.
During covid19 again.. During covid19 they paid peanuts to these doctors as hazard allowance. Infact outside Lagos state, how many other states paid doctors well that period.

You think that doesn't affect doctors who are in university?

Okay again I ask.. If the doctors decide to stop working for only 3 months because of this, what will any of you do?

I once had a discussion around this on the chelsea thread . If I remember correctly we were arguing about unemployment figures and Larride brandished some NBS stats which I just could not agree with cos I know umployment rate is worse than what the NBS stats were saying .

Larride would have none of it and chose to stand by NBS stats favoring Bubu’s administration as (a party man na). So I called Ibime who is a number guy to reason with me based on say 800k sample size in a country of over 100m will never tell the full story.

Well, Ibime told me that the 800k simple size is okay for naija cos even UK unemployment rate is measured by random sampling of 100k adults and that’s it. I don’t know if Ibime was being politically correct in that discourse or he actually believes extrapolating data of 800k people can do justice to whole populace in a place like naija

Here is the link : https://www.nairaland.com/920248/official-chelsea-fan-thread-champions/8932#89818193

bro, university is not even supposed to be for everybody.. it's not even a criteria for success..

Most white people I talk to, most of them don't even go to university.. but the have jobs and some create jobs for themselves..

What a serious government should create is industrial training learning enablement..

Most people who go to university in Nigeria are there because they don't pretty have any other good choice or due to parental and societal pressure and coercion..

I think our university is very very over saturated.. if people who are meant to go to university are the ones there, I don't think we will be having all these half baked graduates that they keep churning out that can't even defend shiit..

Yes, I do agree that our university are actually oversatured. We churn out graduates in almost hundred of thousands every year with no manufacturing or industrial base to absorb them into the workforce. That the govt is still the highest employer of labor both in the national and sub national says a lot.

I agree that we need technical and industrial trainings to empower the major masses with skills. Almost all the artisan jobs in the country are been taking over by our neighboring countries because our youths want to either go to the university or do yahoo because they see artisans as less privilege.

That’s also why a lot of people see farming as a taboo, imagine the kind of population we have, if just 30% of our unemployed figure goes into mechanized farming, the result will surprise everyone.

But both the govt and the citizens are on a long thing.

Why waste 10m to study medicine here when you can japa and go study medicine outside the country? 😂

We are not saying the same thing. Even as cheap as university fees are currently, there are still thousands if not hundred of thousands that can afford it. Scholarship and educational loan will take care of it. That’s why i also included that their remunerations and welfare packages should be prioritized also.

Nice spin

The fact that doctors are now leaving in large numbers has more to do with covid than APC. Countries were in serious crisis and labour shortage hence the need for medical professionals which made them relax migration rules.

Most of those doctors have always wanted to leave, the path just became easier with covid.

I'm sure no one is forced to study medicine, if you can't give 5 years back, look for other courses to study or go to those countries that appreciate skills to study.

Even that unemployment figures, the issue some people were having with NBS was that NBS actually has a very high standard to categorize unemployment. If you don’t work a standard 40hrs a week, to NBS, you are unemployed.

Now the problem with such things is , how do we determine 800k is enough sample size for a population size of over 150m ?

Why not 280k ( which is 56k households with an average of 5 persons in each family ) . Maybe the number guys here can enlighten us on what amount of sample size can do justice to this kinda complex/large population

well... Obi is actually among the old hands...he only contested from Labour party because he lost primaries at PDP.

Obi didn't contest the PDP primaries to begin with, man.

Nope. He did things differently. Not indebting your state is setting you apart from the old hands. No Nigerian governor since then has been able to match this singular record.
Managing scarce resources well is different from the old hands.

At the beginning, what made alot of people key into him was that North and Muslim have ruled the country enough, it's time for South east... it's time for an Igbo man to become president

That zoning stuff really pissed me because people around me were seeing at as a right for him to become president and not about what he has done.

Obi is the only one of the top 3 candidates who didn't campaign based on tribe. Come on, man. He asked for a level-playing field and excused himself from the Primaries because it was dollarized.

In conclusion...I feel people went into this obidient stuff just because they don't want Tinubu and Muslim-Muslim...But everybody has the right to contest an election

No. The Third Force movement began in 2020 while Tinubu was denying he was ever going to contest.

That movement morphed into the Obidient Movement. I was 'obidient' (if you'd call it that) even in 2018. I have my comments to prove; and I'm not alone.
I've detailed it on this board almost a year ago.
https://www.nairaland.com/7186774/epl-chatroom-all-discussions/1083#119426641 Click the quoted comments.

And let's not forget the online bullying, the moment you support PDP or Apc, obidients deem you a witch... everybody has the right to vote his/her choice.

And also the massive amounts of insults Tinubu received from obedients...all those balablu...town hall stuff....it really made me want Tinubu to win.

I supported Atiku btw...I think he's the one with the brains that will get Nigeria working and end poverty, create jobs for youth bla bla bla....but it iz what it izzz... Tinubu will be president and he's more qualified than Peter Obi at least.

If your basis for supporting a candidate is based simply on him being at the receiving end of insults, some of which are factual, GEJ should be Nigeria's lifetime President - he's arguably the most insulted President in the world.

I am even surprised that Nigerians living in Nigeria see it as a wicked policy

Until you go to a hospital (Public or private), and they tell you there is no doctor on duty, or you have to wait 5 hours to see one, na that time the person go understand the problem wey dey on board.
