Exactly. Art is subjective.

Here is the criteria for the Nobel Prize for Peace: https://www.nobelprize.org/nomination/literature/ .

It clear states that once nominated the Swedish Academy decides which nominations they would pick but reserve the right never to reveal why the nominees got shortlisted or not. It even has a law that further details about the nominations cannot be revealed for 50 years.

There is no specific stated criteria for being a Nobel Prize winner in Literature. No benchmark and the academy refuses to make it public.

This is what you slate Achebe for? Some of us get into the fine details. You can't bamboozle everyone.

Achebe and his lovers may create an award for him, but since a long time the Nobel Prize has been the greatest literary award no matter your opinion!

Even the fine details you talk about, you do not know the fine details as much as the judges of the Nobel Prize academy.

So, calm down and make extensive research about the criteria used to choose Nobel Prize winners in Literature.

Many factors like?
In Africa generally we have
1. Rapidly increasing population without the resources to feed them

2. Desertification where many land that used to be farming are no longer productive so many farmers have to leave their land to farm

3. Many who are livestock owners due to this same factors have to travel farther into other space to survive with their cattle

4. Instability due to religious extremism ideology and ethnic affiliation which is prevalent all over the world right now

These are some of the factors that no person can fix

Your 2nd and 3rd point is what is causing most farmers and herdsmen clashes.

The govt should just go ahead and create the cattle settlement and move all the cattle herders there where they pay certain charges for use of the settlement.

The leadership of VISA, a frontline digital payment platform, led by the Regional President, Central Europe, Middle East and Africa, Mr. Andrew Torre paid a courtesy visit on Nigeria’s Vice President-Elect, Sen. Kashim Shettima in Abuja.

............... Mobidients, lets start destroying our VISA ATM cards and quit patronising them.

Both WS and Achebe are two of Africa's greatest writers. However, WS is arguably the greatest African writer living.

Cattle ownership has been an individual thing for long its not centralized. If you want to centralize it that means you will tell all cattle owners in a state or LGA to move to a central space,

Will all Cattle rearers in say Jigawa state move to once central location or different LGAs will have their own settlements
From there who will be feeding them? Will the grass in that place be enough to feed or they will be buying grass

If Buying grass, then from where? If govt will be providing grass then will the owners be paying and those that cannot pay how will they run their business

There are multiple layers to these problems and I don't know a solution for now

As a man of the literary arts myself I have great admiration for Soyinka but I always found his works rather tiresome to enjoy. I flow more with Achebe's works easier to digest and follow.

Unlimited22:

Lol
Read Beware Soul Brother and Christmas in Biafra, then come and repeat what you said about Achebe and Poetry.

Achebe is our greatest novelist. Soyinka is our greatest playwright.

For Poetry, neither of them come tops. No be their playground

Read people like J. P. Clark, the Okigbo brothers, Otswald Mtshali and Okot p'Bitek and you go see who poetry dey their blood.

I have a nice rebuttal for this. I will search for it.

Have you wondered why Things Fall Apart is rated higher by many Nigerians than any Soyinka's book.

NB:The above statement is not a widely recognized fact. It was a product of several small experiments carried out by me and my group with a possibly biased sample group.

Probably many Nigerians must have rated Okocha higher than George Weah too. We know who was awarded the best player in the world between them.

This is the America that Nigeria tries to copy. Unless for the fact that we are poorer. Running American style on 1% of the budget
$2m for public toilet

This process in the video below will remind you of how "govt processes" run in Nigeria

Yes they should move into a centralized space and get all their cattle identified.

We can’t keep having issues where herdsmen trespass on people farms to feed their cattles and then maim the farmers because they stop them from laying waste to their farms in the name of feeding their cattle.

Create a cattle settlement and make it mandatory for every cattle rearer to register and herd their cattles in this settlements. The govt will provide the grass and water while the owners of the cattle pay for using the settlement.

If you meet them and they start narrating how the government is neglecting them, yourself go come the reason am somehow.

Note. I am not making a case for the bad ones among them.

They hardly get financial support from the government even though they are all under Agricultural Business.

They will tell you government is concentrating on Agronomy and neglecting Livestock.

Is a very complex issue. Think Tank are yet to come up with a solution to this.

In all this, a situation where some herders will enter someone's farm to destroy it should be condemned and the herder should be made to pay for the loses.
