Mario is a game franchise that is loved by its fans and has been around since 1985. I loved the original Mario as a kid and my nephews love the new Mario on the WII as children. Yet, someone is asking why the Mario movie is pulling numbers. One of the longest and biggest running game franchises known to man? Some people here should only review nollywood and zee world movies. Tetris(aka brick game):9/10 Genre: Biopics, Drama, Comedy From the very first scene, it draws you in and keeps you emotionally engaged and fixated from start to finish. The story being loosely based on real events made it so much compelling to watch. From the power tussle, the game of chess, the blackmail, the exposition, the thrills....All this is a testament to the game behind the game. I can't believe the Gameboy handheld game come out as far back as 89. Nintendo really cashed out big time on Tetris via Gameboy. 2 Likes

NaijaMemes: so why did the original mario movie not pull numbers? why did the rocks doom movie not pull numbers ? there are multiple video game ips brought to the screen with large followings that also bombed in the past same way marvel was absolute shit in the 90s. a much better answer is the market and technology have reached a point where you can successfully replicate the most endearing parts of these mediums on the big screen. |

Shazam! Fury of the Gods:6.8/10 Genre: Comedy, Action I don't care what critics say about this one, i sure did enjoy every bit of it. If not for any other reason, Shazam triumphs excellently as a comedy movie that'll sure leave you in stitches. !!!! Spoiler Alert!!! My funniest scene was were he(Shazam) rose from the grave and he screamed in disbelief Hey! What the hell? You buried me? In what, like two minutes. The expression on his face was so so funny. 3 Likes

GloriousGbola: 1. The original mario movie was in 1993. How popular was Mario then? Super Nintendo was released 92/93 for most parts of the world. Even i as a kid preferred Sonic the hedgehog at the time. 2. The original Mario was a live-action movie. It was not animated and to some extent, it was poorly adapted. The current mario movie is animated. The focus group is children and children would prefer an animated movie. 3. Doom was in limbo (partially dead) as at the time the movie was released. There was no Doom game from 1998 till 2005 when the movie came out. The movie was poorly adapted. 4. Sonic did not bomb. Videogame IPs are risky on a normal day because it is hard to adapt without altering important parts of the videogame lore. Videogame IPs rarely translate well to live-action movies. For a videogame IP to blow, it must have a huge fan base and it must stay true to form (or at least, have a serious plot). 5. Marvel IP is not based on videogames. Comics. |

Shazam: Fury of the I don't hate this movie. Just like Thor: Love and Thunder, I got to understand it was made for 5 year old kids... But even kids movies like Puss in Boots have good writing...I don't think that should be an excuse for terrible writing... The 2/10 I'm giving it sef is because of the thighs... At least the movie managed to move something in me...just not what the producers expected Story... ❌ Themes ❌ Characters ❌ Dialogue ❌ Action sequences ❌ Comedy ❌ Sense of threat ❌ Music/Score ❌ CGI ❌ This movie managed to completely fail at every category I could think of...it has no redeeming factor... Except you're a 7 years old kid This movie isn't PG-13...it's PG-5 I mean come on, there needs to at least be some sense of threat. What is this garbage primary school storybook writing? Primary school kids can even write better plot than this garbage Protagonists are dûmb cos they're kids....I get that The villains are also equally dûmb... In fact every character in the world is somehow dûmb...even when they're "supposedly in danger" Planting the apple in the ground brought a few weak-àss monsters that get killed with a stab to the chest..m Are these the monsters that are supposed to take over the world? What will these clowns do against the military? Whenever I watch movies like Shazam, I lose more hope on the Superhero genre I mean I get the idea on making every movie appropriate for most audiences, but come on...a little actual violence won't hurt... 9 year old kids on Reddit are watching super violent shows, even mature anime are being watched by kids... I'm not asking for some gory shii...but a little blood won't hurt... Multiverse of Madness pulled it off, mature content but managed to pull off the age rating (I think) Disaster is happening and everyone is smiling happily. Why are the background characters casually jogging around in circles? It doesn't take more than a few minutes for the area to be cleared off in a disaster... It feels like the directors don't even care... The background characters aren't even running, they're more or less casually jogging while having fun... That is aside the fact that no one is actually allowed to get hurt on screen... Where is the sense of threat? That's why I can't take movies like this seriously And finally, why should I even care about what the villains are doing if the producers and characters don't? Why should I even care if the villains destroy the world, when the movie makes no effort to actually give me a reason to care The audience will not automatically care just because the world in a movie is about to be destroyed...you need to build things up... Show the audience people suffering, scared, show the heroes actually struggling, actually caring We need to see people in peril... Not 100 CGI buildings getting destroyed Look at the action, heroes and villains keep fighting with useless punches and kicks that do 0 damage except maybe knock someone unconscious when the plot decides to .. Is it just me or has 2023 served up some bare ass flicks so far. I thought 2023 was gonna bang movie wise instead we have been served more poo than actual meal. There's no denying the dip in quality of movie and music especially post COVID but this year might actually be the worse. Might be too early to judge and write the year off tho. Holding out hope for GOTG Volume 3, "The Flash", Oppenheimer, Dune 2 and Killers of the flower moon... These are my "Holy Grail". |
