My simple advice to the average investor on NGX is to have a simple plan of thinking long term, buying good quality stocks that pay dividends regularly and reinvesting the dividend. Buy more when you can add more funds. You would have grown a good portfolio over the years. Be disciplined with reinvesting your dividend.

An investor that bought 1000 units of GTBank@N5.10 at the IPO in 2001, would have shares worth about N170k now and received over N172k as dividends to date. An investor that bought Presco at about N10 around 2008, would have it at N150 per share today (not recognizing dividends paid o).

Please leave the complex strategies for those that might know how, until you learn better. They don't always win.

That is awoof. You bought an investment for about 500k twenty years ago and now earning dividend of about N2 million per annum from the investment

Exactly what I wanted to say. In this market, you need to constantly monitor and rebalance your portfolio based on fundamentals.

You can add bank PHB, oceanic and Evans medical on that list grin

You can add yours grin

Kabiru: Good day bro,
I just sold my OAN** shares earlier today only to see it go back on full bid moments later.

Me: No need to live in regret dear. You can always allocate the sales proceeds to other value accretive coy and still make some decent return.

Kabiru: I hold some small stake in TRANSC***. Would it be ok to exit now?
Your advice will be well appreciated.

Me: As long as you are following through with your trade set-up, you should be ok... but may OAN** not happen to you in TRANSC***. wink cheesy cool

Seed has been sown in different stocks, just waiting for the dividends to keep flowing in.

I’ve been adding on more commercial papers than stocks to my portfolio recently.
Im wondering, has anyone ever done a bond vs stock result comparison for their portfolio over a period of say 10-15 years of the NSE.
Which performed better?
Equities like Zenith, Ucap etc yields are about 12-13% now. Bonds & Commercial papers are between 13 - 16%.
Which is better?

Some stocks return more than bonds, while some don't. And some stocks even dissappear completely. Not a straight answer that one will be better than the other.

Oga, leave those people abeg, a friend was telling me how he intends growing 20m in zenith bank to 300m In next 12yrs not waiting for dividend just buy at 19 sell at 26 take the money to MMF then reinvest again when The Price is lower then finally settle down for dividend of 20m yearly na that time my closed eyes open that I needed to buckle up oo. Since he opened my eyes I have been thinking on how massive wealth can be made by being smart
it is better looking at the new banks and pick the good ones from there for long term investment....some of the top banks now might not be around in the next 15 years.
