COMPAQ:Sixty two years is more than enough time to grow our revenue through investment. Agriculture was already doing very fine but we abandoned it for oil when we could have kept both. Income would have doubled at the time. Investment in sectors like tourism, healthcare, education, manufacturing, etc would have been much easier. But the lack of foresight (that's me avoiding the word "stupidity" is what made it as difficult and terrible as it presently is. 4 Likes |

Iamgrey5: The Federalism in those places are true federalism. Dubai is one of the Emirates that formed UAE. They have their rulers who is the VP of UAE. I know you are talking about US & Canada but I brought Dubai because of governance. In Nigeria, Lagos especially, during the military era, there were clashes between Federal Ministry of Works and Lagos State government. The Minister of Works was a Soja of higher rank than the governor and closer to Head of State. The governor has to save his job. Federal Ministry of Works drove villagers away from coastal area and built estates, they sandfilled sea and sold land without recourse to State government for masterplan. Stable government and good economy are required to build great cities. We don't have any of the two. 2 Likes 1 Share |

It doesn't cost government money. It costs planning and demolishing houses of people who have done absolutely nothing wrong just because government want to do something it failed to do earlier. 1 Like |

COMPAQ:The only reasonable thing you wrote here "making itself attractive to foreign capital" lest you forgot Dubai was a desert while Nigeria a greenland with much resources both marine life and others. Or do you think if Nigeria is practicing regional autonomous government, it will be the shithole that is today? |

Reflect7:What is the benefit of the population we have, when some sections of the country are just giving birth just to win elections, what else do you expect, I believe if the country is practicing regional autonomous government, people won't born indiscriminately as they do. China as a country have more than times 4 of our population but still controls the world because they born for innovations and not just to win election. |

NinjaXmetahuman: lets see if you are using your sense. how did Dubai make this hypothetical 5billion naira? did Dubai always have "5 billion naira" to share for its 2 children? is it because it has less "children" to cater for that is the reason why it has achieved all it has achieved? based on your theory of population, is Dubai richer than China? what is a country's greatest resource? |

Ordinary 5 storey building is collapsing in nigeria, you are thinking of building skyscraper, for your dreams or what? It is not even a matter of what would he the cost, because we don't have such money. The little available has been embezzled and will continue to be embezzled by our hoodlums we called leaders. It is a matter of can we build these and how long it will take us to build edifices like these in our own country. The painful aspect of all these, is, all these garage boys we call leaders travel abroad, they see things but they will never allow it in our own country, because they are afraid of you and I being in competition with their own children. 1 Like 1 Share |

Fineman2:is it the govt that build those skyscrapers and sell it to people, or is it private firms that build those? Skyscraper are owned by private firm and entity, hotels, government offfices. Private law firms and much more. So it's not government that builds Skyscraper. If u want to build Skyscraper anywhere in Nigeria go and build it. Just make sure u get ur approval and give reputable construction company the project 2 Likes 1 Share |

You are talking about a very useless place, ruled by people wey 2 na cut off from cradle to grave. If not for Nigeria really teaching and in graining igbos in bad habits (irresponsibility, all kinds of crimes, unnecessary ego, and treasury stealing); My tribe, when honed in, can build all of that in 20 years. We have American creativity, the 19th century American work discipline, the tireless chinese manufacturing spirit, and a population care. We can build it, but we will build better and durable. As long as we have hateful hostile tribes around us, we can't afford to do something like this, as in building too high up, it will just become a missile target; so we should be the kings of underground buildings and quality war ready buildings above ground. Because, we need to think like the enemies. If our enemies have these or even as things are now, anybody knows that as time of war goes on, all those elegant buildings will be targets. So, we have to think like the enemies. Some people heard that some people have been analyzing structures in person, hacked and friendly satellites, in pictures, and other means of analysis, so that fighters can know how to target and be efficient with strikes, even when not a direct hit. Even the air to pressure studies after a hit. If people are thinking like this, you will be unwise to assume the enemies are not preparing like this. Igbos should increase our prowess on structure erection and durability. For the next 50 to 100 years, we shouldn't build high, unless we can come up with materials that can withstand war times or terror infiltration attack. So, we should focus on building real padded roads, underground highways and rail ways, and all kinds, regulated and periodically inspected for function and safety. We can build wonders too like that. |

It won't cost us much the moment we stop worshipping our national looters in the name of ethnicity. Those money they are paying into their private and foreign accounts are the same money used in building these skyscrapers in saner climes 1 Like 1 Share |
