I guest you are working with dstv or gotv if not you will not saying what you are saying with 5 hardship in Nigerian they are increasing subscription because our leader don't care about the poor they can try this in south Africa or other countries of you are with it let those who are not ok with it voice out their mind

You are talking like this because

1.You are young

2.You have never had an actual job, especially in the private sector.

3.You don't run your business/own a business.

When you have either of those three things, ESPECIALLY no 3, you would understand why prices have to go up. Cost of living of workers is a big part of that.

Yes, people suffer, but at the end of the day, you don't live in a country where you MUST own DSTV. You can watch football at a viewing center, or you can switch to startimes self.

Y'see, prices go up because things like taxes, supplies, cost of making certain programmes, etc also go up. And at some point, you either raise prices, or you lose money, fast.

At the end of the day, companies have to make profits to pay their workers improved welfare, and at the same time also account for increased prices elsewhere.

Because for DSTV/Multichoice, the prices and cost of doing business have been increasing and will continue to increase year in and year out.

That's life. You don't have to watch DSTV, you can always switch to cheaper alternatives like Startimes.
You are not answering the questions, all businesses faces the same challenge but they don't behave the way DStv does,it appears to me you don't see anything wrong in what DSTV is doing in Nigeria because perhaps it favours you in a way, tell me exactly when did DStv increased her tariff last before the latest increment n whether they did same in all countries where they operate?

Mentioned where cable TV operate pay as you go all over the world. The only thing being done is exclusive channel pay just like BBN channel or special boxing fixtures, and you would pay heavily for it. Please get fact before confusing people . Technology in cable TV cannot support pay as go like GSM. Asked yourself why Startimes, moreplex TV or TSTv never start pay as you go? . Thank you.

Same way billing per seconds is never a feasible thing according to MTN execs until Glo proved otherwise.

Do you read atall?

Edited:

I read why it’s unrealistic and confusion between pay per view and pay as you go. Thanks 🌞

Another reason is that shareholders returns (Billions ) has to be guaranteed and any move to chip away from it for a long term has to be resisted, the use of short term measures is allowed

While you are busy looking at the bright side, care to take a peek at the shareholder’s profit?

noun, plural lux·u·ries.
a material object, service, etc., conducive to sumptuous living, usually a delicacy, elegance, or refinement of living rather than a necessity:

You don't need DStv to survive.
It is a luxury, whether they have better services in other countries or not, does not stop it from being a luxury, you people should stop attaching emotion to everything.

How about we buy "watch hours" subscription. Out of 30 days (30 x 24 = 720 watch hours). Some people don't even watch 100 hours cumulatively...

Nigerian Students, NANS Gives Multi-Choice Company Seven Days To Begin Pay-As-You-View Billing Or Face Closure Of Offices

https://saharareporters.com/2023/04/26/nigerian-students-nans-gives-multi-choice-company-seven-days-begin-pay-you-view-billing

Previous thread https://www.nairaland.com/7666235/multichoice-increases-subscription-rates-dstv

Based on the new pricing, the average rate per month for all the packages is about $18. With 25M subscribers in Nigeria alone, DSTV pockets about $450M per month. That's $5.4B per annum, in Nigeria alone and they are in other markets.

We cannot tell what their monthly expenses are, but no matter how high, DSTV is still churning out huge profits and should be considerate to its customers.

Bearing in mind that it commenced operations in Nigeria in 1995 which is 28 years ago, the company would have broken even and should thus be reasonable with its pricing.

It's not DSTV's fault though, it is because it's virtually a monopoly. Na why dem dey do anyhow, plus, una law makers sef dey collect raba, afterall, the likes of Tacha and Mercy Eke must buy house for Lekki, nack am Range Rover join. So indirectly, na we subscribers dey buy those toys for the girls. It is well.

Is it because its foreign business in Nigeria? Your fuel station deliberately refused to sell at normal approved price you never called senate, but because of DSTV and GOtv you now remember senate?
Try to do away with this useless whataboutery mentality and air your opinion regarding the issue that has been raised. You're always free to create topics or raise issues as to why nigerians behave the way you claim.

So you don't know it costs money to acquire rights to those newer movies you want to watch. You want them to spend MORE money to acquire those movies, but you DONT want to spend MORE for your subscription to watch them!? Who is the supposed to bear the loss?

See the stupid logic of the average Nigerian!!

When you say filing station, are you specific or lumping them generally?

Let me add, the oil and gas industry is heavily subsidised. This led to the birth of black market. Legislation are made regarding fuel price, the customs (FOU) locks up fuel station selling above the market price

There are other regulatory bodies too. I've been to some border areas and this is a regular practice.

If a fuel station decides to sell at a higher rate, people patronise the other station wifh lower price. This interaction brings price to equilibrium

For DSTV, bulk of their revenue is generated from Nigeria and why they practice "pay as you go" in other countries is due to their stringent labour laws

We are not asking for special treatment but what is obtainable in saner climes.
Name the stringent labour law

Una go just de spew with utmost confidence

Just disseminating trash
