grin go for number 2... gather plenty savings before anything funny happens... build connections and strategize for your own self employability.... you have more opportunities there believe me grin
I'd chose number one for him, due to the fact that he could work till he dies with enough time to run a business, he can even be a lecturer and do politics at same time

Hmm... I thought that too but with the way things are in this country no time to waste on lengthy careers... work small and earn big if you can... focus on how to retire early... lecturers are being tortured in this country... that's why you see dem strike all the time.... and being a lecturer is not direct Visa to politics... you must build bridges... many politicians today are not academias... they're common men with high power... academias even run to them for cover.... if you can hit the jackpot and retire early please do... I don't believe in long suffering... for example I have technically retired early when am just in my early 30s... I do anything I want with my time and my money grows daily.... I don't live the 5to7 or dawn to dusk lifestyle of a workaholic.... that's the beauty of building a system for yourself early if you can wink

I understand what you are saying.
But lecturers job is secured while the other job is not, you could get fired two months after they employ you.
Also if he takes the company job, he will not have time to make more and more money, at the end, the idea of retiring early has been defeated.

The bolded if you don't do it in Nigeria today, you will die with nothing to show for it as a University Lecturers. Your Senate Collect hardship allowing, Newspaper Allowance, so lecturer should not collect handouts allowance.

It's not surprising, though. Anyone who is alien to the Grace to say no to those atrocities you earlier listed as normal cannot have these your fears banished by the same Grace.

Well depends on type of company... in some company after 3 months you get an automatic career boost and good prospects... I spent 6months in construction to create my own experience and customer base for instance... serving me till date... well life is different story for different folks wink

I stated pure undiluted facts. Nigerians hate to be confronted with the truth. They live in denial. College of Education (satellites campuses are not left either) Go to Laspotech Ikorodu and Satellites branches and confirm the facts stated.

Aside education I learned a trade, built my experience, built a customer base, created a company and running since then... took a decade to do these though... altogether with years in training... the key is identifying your passion on time and working towards it... don't go on and off... be entrepreneurial and persist... always try to improve... network... show yourself to people as a professional... your experience in a multinational company even if its 2years means alot... people are ready to pay you millions for what you know or what you can do... above all make your profession your hobby wink

Oga, I feel ur pain, but when den say"learn skill", nor be d Kain skill dt will still trap u within d 'job-seeker' matrix we dey yarn biko.

The Kain skill we dey talk about na d Kain one wey be say u can hit d ground running, not d one dt will still make u a job seeker.

For instance, being a phone/laptop 'engineer', u are good to go. You have d guarantee of making at least 10k per day and u will still be d master of ur time.

Na dt Kain skill we dey talk my broda!

Oga, time na everything
The chief lecturer himself didn't start as a chief lecturer; he started as an 'assistant'.

It's just a matter of time.
cool

Some of you are advising him to go for the federal job because of hand out, forgetting that he is assistant lecturer under a lecturer, as assistant lecturer you will be selling the handout of the lecturer or professor you are under he is the one to determine the difference that he will give you. You dare not sell someone textbook apart from the person that has the course so bro go for the multinational company

350000 x 12 = 4,200,000
150000 x 12 = 1, 800,000

The extra time you have as Lecturer,
can you make up to the extra 2,400,000
per annum? Even if you are selling handouts.

Better take the extra stress to make
the extra doughšŸ’°šŸ’µšŸ’°, time waits for
no one.
Assistant lecturer don't earn 150k after all statutory deductions. It's less than 110k sef and some institutions don't allow lectures sell handout again. Those guys dey suffer ibeg. Multinational anyday, 350k could rise to 500k in 2 years, 3-5years savings target to jet out of naija. His lecturer salary can't fund is Japa dream if he decides to relocate, he'll be due for promotion every 3 years with an increment less than 15k after promotion. I just hope he won't regret his decision, lectures are leaving academic to industry now as FG no value dem. A whole professor net pay monthly is less than 400k.
A colleague came from the banking sector, spent 2 years as a lecturer and ran back to the bank when sapa wan finish am.
Even if OP saves his 3years salary as a lecturer, he can't buy Tokunbo 06 Corolla or Camry and guy man go still chop, pay bills and flex. If I were him, I'd pick Multinationals and use their funds to jet out of Nigeria.

IyaTola:

Since it's a Federal Poly, it the best because with 150k gross, having time for yourself cannot be over-emphasized
1. As a Federal lecturer, you can sell hand outs with reckless abandon (profit gotten from handouts can set up a business center, see 5 for further details).
2. Your grades are for the highest bidder especially when you set difficult questions.
3. You have opportunities for the students to do your bidding if you get my drift.
4. You can choose to come to class if you so wish.
5. Students MUST use your shop/business center for their photocopies and project work
6. Unlimited access to ladies skirts
7. Job security is guaranteed because you can falsify your age to prolong your stay in service.

Disadvantage
1. Strikes
2. Inability to send your kids (born and unborn) to private school

However, for private organization and a multinational at that, you have to be at your "A" game every time.
- Target's must be met
- Opportunity to grow in your career path
- Attending courses is a MUST
- Benefit package is rewarding

Demerits
1. Working late's nights to meet targets
2. Travelling a lot
3. Spend little or not time for family
4. No job security because you could be laid off

Conclusions:
Choose multinational over federal ploy because of strike, once you retire, to collect your pension na war
Kindly confirm if the 350k is net or gross

Modified
To those quoting me
What shameful? Why deceiving yourself or ourselves?

A case in study is ploy in commercial nerve center of Nigeria. Fashion Department from the Asst Lecturer down to the HOD they all collect bribe. It's an unwritten rule, it's either cash or kind or shall we move to Unilag, I don't want to mention the department but, you must sleep with that lecturer in your penultimate year. The man is currently a Dr and owns a school in Ikorodu, with which money if I may ask?

There's a federal Institution in the South East, the Lecturer teacher a very complusory course 4 Unit, you must make use of the wife's shop for all his photocopies or project work and the wife would stamp. His the HOD of the department today and a Dr or is it the one that was given Dr of enterprenueship from IU and used us(students) to by Morano Jeep. Leave story abeg

In other news
~Adamawa elections, someone was alleged to have collected bribe in excess of =N=2bn.

~River state a PDP politician was caught with $500,000 and a list of people to be settled (in that list we had INEC, Police etc)

~ Who are the REC in each state of the federation? Profs from University & you expect the University to be devoid of bribe grin, Use your tongue count your teeth. Who Dem catch na im be THIEF
Your stupidity is out of this world.
You think all these staff don't have their children in the same schools they lecture and work?
So, you'll know this is happening and you'll tolerate your colleagues sleeping with your children?
Lecturers sleeping with students is real but the % is very insignificant, and mostly, you can blame the wayward, dumb and lazy girls too for the act...
In conclusion, ALWAYS USE YOUR BRAIN BEFORE TYPING RUBBISH.
I PERCEIVE YOU TO BE A JOBLESS AND FRUSTRATED PERSON...
GET A LIFE
GET A JOB.

If you are smart and do not want a mediocre lifestyle, go for the multinational company. You will have enough job experience and would become a hot cake for other companies. Forget job security for now, hustle your way to the top without fear!
