If the act gives them confidence...without having any negative effect on anyone...in such a situation, then they are free to exercise their faith.

I don't think you have been in a terrifying situation before.

I remember some years back , I was a passenger insider a commercial bus from Obalende to Oshodi, in the middle of 3rd mainland bridge, one of the Tyres busted and passengers started shouting Jesus Jesus Jesus. There is one alfa that joined the shouting too and the bus was on top speed. After surviving, some passengers asked the alfa that you were shouting Jesus and he said, he noticed the bus was maintaining its balance when others are calling the name of Jesus and that is why he joined.

You can't force calmness in extreme situations. You prepare for it over time.

So they are allowed to do anything that will calm them down in the moment of panic. If speaking in tongues or prayer will calm you down, better do it.

The question is, did the "speaking in tongues" saved them?
