First of all, I will like to say that I am happy for Hilda for breaking a world record. It's never an easy feat, however, I think Nigerians are really overhyping this.

Hilda didn't really achieve anything groundbreaking or even useful by cooking for 100 hours, especially one that would warrant such national attention. Yes she broke a world record, but all she did was cook. Not like she was inventing a new delicacy or manufactured a new technology to cook food.

One thing I have noticed about this country is we don't have our priorities right. And it's not just the leaders, majority of the population are culpable. For the past three days almost every post on my Whatsapp status is about Hilda. My twitter and Facebook timeline is all about Hilda, but really is this something worth celebrating by a whole nation?

Go on Youtube and you will see various accounts by white kids from different western countries doing even more amazing stuff, but their countries do not recognize them, simply because it isn't worth recognizing. In the 21st century, a serious country recognizes technological innovation, groundbreaking medical research and other things that actually make a positive and impactful difference in the world. What impact has Hilda's 100 hours cooking made? It's not like she's cooking to end world hunger. What will be the positive impact of her cooking 2 months from now?

We really need to get our priorities right. There are university students that have done more useful projects that can actually solve problems and put Nigeria on the global map, but yet no one gives a damn. These projects can actually make a difference, create jobs and improve the economy of this country, but some pretty girl cooks for 4 days and everyone cant shut up.

This is 2023 where countries have gotten to the level where they can wipe out the whole of Nigeria in minutes; where countries have developed AI technology that can completely transform the economy of the world, yet a country of over 200 million people are celebrating a woman that did nothing else but cook, as if she just discovered the cure for cancer. Shame!

cool

I don't want to kill our patriotic national joy

But go to any industrial kitchen in UAE, Dubai, Sharjah and AbuDhabi ,

Go and see Chef and Cooks work multiple shifts and do overtime... Muscular men with hardened look of steel from cooking

That girl can't last in an industrial kitchen except for dry kitchen where they bake and do pastry... She can't even survive mixing dough and cutting bread and buns

When you carefully look at the situation, you could see that the only thing that matters to Nigerians is cruise and vibe nothing of substance. more reason we produce more that 1000 computer engr. yearly who can't do an hour without been online and yet no single invention, a graduate of agriculture who doesn't see potentials in Nigeria other than govt. should fund me or i JAPA, more reason while ENDSARS degenerate into what it become because youth were having fun in protesting while the nation is already burning, go to any social media platform and see stupidity of Nigerian all in the name of skit. in the next 10-15years the same set of people would be in leadership position either private or govt. and one would be expecting a world class performance.

You might not appreciate her cooking time but she deserve accolade for standing for 96 hours within 5 days. Many would have fainted for such duration. She have shown that we can break barriers with the right motivation. If you think it is easy, try to stand for a whole day.

Na country and people wey be say their stock in trade na follow follow or copy copy you dey write all these for?

This has always been the stock in trade for our people.

Watch as more Nigerians will jump on the bandwagon to want to replicate what she did.

The young lady did well by challenging and pushing herself to do this. However, making this a national topic of discourse amid everything else plaguing the country is repulsive.

Have you ever wondered why we have some particular select brand of cars on our roads or why almost everyone does the same business? See POS for instance or check the nonsense pranks and whatever they do on TikTok.

Our people are lazy to think out or fashion out an idea for themselves.

Just bring up an idea, thrive in it, and see them mess it up for you.

Always celebrating and jumping on the wagon of mediocrity...

Nonsense..

Your point is well noted!
But Sir,
What is there to celebrate?
The failed Electoral System?
The government that is a failure?
The system that is in a state retrogression?
The Educational institutions that are all failures?
The Religious system that is in chaos?

My Brother,
if you see one individual trying to standout amongst billions of people on the world, celebrate that individual irrespective of the feat he or she achieve, the name has gone global!

We celebrated with Israel Adesanya,
We celebrated with Osimhen,
We celebrated Joshua during his time too and others too many to count.

There are so many issues that can make one run mad in our present society, so if you see one individual trying to stand out inspite of current realities, celebrate that individual!

Nigeria is not for the Weak,
And only exceptional Nigerians stand out!

I understand your point but trust me it still calls for support from all angles, remember when an Indian was still holding that record, she was celebrated by her people so we should also celebrate ours.

Atleast still better than BBN.......

So standing to cook for 24hrs is an achievement worthy of national celebration?

On Christmas eve thousands of women around Nigeria cook for hours. There is nothing special about cooking. People have been cooking for thousands of years. It's not an achievement.

This country is filled with unthinking people, so why should it surprise you that they celebrate frivolities?

After this one, another episode of useless crap will occupy their minds, and they will flock to their numerous worship centres to beg their imaginary gods for the things others get through thinking and action.

Haters will find a reason to say sth bad no matter what

They disguise themselves as critics

Infolenka, I understand your point

But you are sounding like a hater

If you feel so bad about the attention being given to Hilda, what stops you from finding a world record to beat

What stops you from paying influencers to make the tech inventions done by Nigerian students to trend on twitter

Complaining about Hilda's achievement won't change the direction of anything.

I think you are missing the point. The whole campaign is to promote the will power of the average woman in nigeria. They feel they are only known for olosho. With this support, the average woman would be inspired to reach out to the heavens.

A DJ from Ondo State did 5 days of nonstop music shows without repeating a track last year and break the world record with less noise what we are witnessing now is just a bandwagon effect.

He is not feeling sad, he's only saying that we should focus more and elaborate on things that contribute to humanity and less on the achievement of personal glorification. Hope you understand

Guinness World Record or whatever they call themselves should be celebrating inventions and innovations that solve societal problems

Imagine celebrating someone that cooked or slept for a certain period of time....how does that contribute to the betterment of humanity ?

Hilda beings to the kitchen and the other room. The cooking challenged strengthened that fact.

I don’t know how to pretend or sugar coat it, the challenge is useless and doesn’t warrant any national celebration.
