Let’s look at the reality on ground. Balogun’s chances with England is dicey. Then look at the USMNT’s international record. USA overall has performed beyond expectations at the WC based on the talents they have over the years. Shows they have a great soccer administration. Then also consider which country needs him most. It’s a no brainer! He made the right choice. Me I no go dey play for banana plantation here and there and be arguing over my match bonuses, when I should be getting premium treatment with the US. Then think retirement, you are on your own. Our football admins need to show a high degree of patriotism. Let’s focus on that, and we will have more talents wanting to play for Nigeria.

Nigeria isn't even really in the equation.. It was a choice between England and USA because he already represented England at youth level. So why did he now choose USA? Abi USA is better than England too?

By the way, our national basketball team is filled with US born and breed players who don't have a problem representing Nigeria. In fact, if not for COVID-19 and injuries, we would have had either of Monte Morris and Spencer Dwindde reprsent us at the last Olympic games..they willingly choose to.. The Ogwumike sisters willingly tried to change nationality from the US to Nigeria.. Plenty of Nigerian athletes born and breed in either Nigeria or US are in US colleges and representing Nigeria.. So don't say nobody will pick Nigeria over Us... Sometimes, it isn't about the money or the clout

Bro calm down these are second fiddle basketball players
The once’s that won’t make it to the usa 🇺🇸 starting lineup so no they deceive yourself

If usa came calling none of them would even look back at Nigeria self

All of this shalaye no neccessary.
He wanted to play for us but we did not make any attempt to invite him. We don't need him.
USMNT was practically begging him to play for them cos they lack good strikers which affected them at the last World Cup.
If Nigeria went in for him he would play for us. Not all players are hungry.
Ziyech, Mane et al do not even collect match bonus playing for their countries. So rest this talk!

Most of the Senegalese, Algerians and Morrocans players do not take match bonuses playing for their country.
It's pathetic that ignorant people just come here to spit trash!
Folarin practically said he wanted to play for us. Why stress inviting him when we have more than 4 strikers better than him?

Did we invite him and he refused? No?
USMNT wanted and needed him desperately and he agreed to play for them. What is all these cry all about?

Sir Majori.Folarin choice is United State not Nigeria. It was stated he picked US over England,Nigeria was not even mentioned.

Senegal,Morocco and Algeria national teams players receive bonuses representing their countries.

No player is stupid not to demand match bonus etc playing for Nigeria, a country/FA ran by people who have no iota of patriotism or won’t sacrifice a thing. You are delusional.

True, the Ogwumike sisters are elite players (Nneka mostly). They were both no 1 WNBA draft picks but Nneka has featured the most for USA (mostly at the world cup) and injury hasn't exactly the favourable to them Chiney. Both sisters are very proud of their heritage, but it doesn't mean they would have chosen to play for Nigeria. Nneka only considered playing for Nigeria when it became obvious she was never going to get a chance to feature in the Olympics for team USA even though she deserves and has earned it (she's been snubbed twice).

The Tobi Amusan angle is likely untrue. Tobi's best tournament so far has been the recent world championship. She didn't make the podium at most outings prior (save the diamond league) prior to that. She of course could have chosen to switch, but no way she was seriously lobbied to represent USA.

It's also true that none of the D'tigress players would have made team USA. It doesn't mean as a collective they can't achieve glory globally, but as individuals none is even close to being considered. There's none currently in the WNBA. The closest has been Victoria Macaulay who was giving a training contract by the Aces last year and Connecticut Suns this year and she was cut both times.

We currently have 3 elite players of Nigerian decent in the WNBA (Arike Ogunbowale, Michaela Onyewere and Queen Egbo) with Arike Ogunbowale being the most elite of them (the other 2 have less than 4 years in the league). Arike isn't even considering playing for Nigeria at the moment, she's still hoping to play for USA (she's been invited to several camps and may just make the team.

While I agree mostly with you, I think "most players" as against "no player" would be a better phrasing.

There are players like Ashleigh Plumtre and Udodi Onwuzurike (Athletics) who values heritage and identity to what's most glamorous. Udodi is currently breaking records in Stanford but chose to represent Nigeria from a very young age. Ashleigh is also like that, it's the same reason she has chosen to play for Leicester city (her hometown club) even when she had better offers from better clubs in the WSL.

Victor Oladipo for instance is an elite basketball player (no 2 draft in his time) but didn't even feature for the USA and would probably have represented Nigeria if we had a better structure that makes things easy. Again, I mostly agree that most athlete will go for the better option, but there are always exceptions.

Even when our football administration was better in the yesteryears we still had people choose to rep another country, no?

I'm not arguing about better working environment. But do you not agree a shirt is Balogun's priority?

Think of it na, next world cup is in that country. What's the easiest way to be at that WC grin

You don’t understand my point bro

Victor oladipo is an elite player, rebounder and 2 way scorer and an all around good player,( aside injuries)

What I’m saying is this

They’re are guaranteed a starting role
Drop. Nigeria 🇳🇬 and usa 🇺🇸
On the table 10/10 will pick usa

You think if iwobi was hotshot and England was calling

Do you think okocha words would have changed his minds

The sad truth is that we’re always second choice to players who didn’t make it in their country of birth

Guaranteed a first shirt

Zaha would pick Ivory Coast over England

It seems we all forgot why INAKI WILLIAMS
Followed ghana to the World Cup

It’s better to go to the World Cup or iaaf and be an unused sub that’s your definition of a successful career ?

Aside starting shirt usa/England eclipse us in all aspect of sporting activities
From facilities, to education and opportunities

I’m saying it again and again

Even you won’t pick Nigeria ahead of usa if you were to be presented the chance right now.

Sports aside
What job do you do ?
Doctor ?
Engineering?
Clerk to name a few.

You’re saying you rather be a first class doctor in Nigeria than a first class doctor in usa ?

The thing you are missing is that the player in question is not a superstar. It's not hard to see that he will go where he is wanted and cherished (a shirt)

Facility? Education? For someone who grew in Arsenal?

You don't even need to assume what I'd pick. We have people who "settled" for SE. Why?

Right of choice becomes narrow when you are not spectacular and no disrespect to Folarin, we can't describe him as spectacular
