I’m struggling, trying to think about what kind of person would be against this. Pandemic EBT received very little pushback so why this?

I struggle as well. I understand the "financial limitations" push back. I have friends who talk about open borders and free healthcare for even undocumented immigrants. They are living their faith, and to their credit they give chunks of their wealth to do so. But, I see the other side of it where it has to be a balance with the long term economic feasibility of such policies.

But free lunch for every kid who is required to be in school? I think those other arguments should fall to the wayside. In the Pandemic my state did that. And I was happy to hear that and surprised kids still didn't have the ability to get a healthy meal in school.

This doesn’t seem to be your forte either. Is your POV from an owner’s standpoint? I’m on my second and third EVs and I speak from experience—I know what I know. You said that EVs are a huge money pit with the exception of Tesla and as a former Tesla owner, I’m here to tell you that you’re absolutely wrong. Teslas have numerous pitfalls, including things that should be simple like bodywork after an accident. You also seemed to skip over the part where I said that the warranties are much more comprehensive, most covering the entire vehicle for up to 100,000 miles with extended warranties available which makes them much cheaper and easier to maintain/operate.

Stay on target.

Here's your initial statement I responded to:

Funny but someone in this thread recently made the very false claim that EVs were being sold at surplus from manufacturers because nobody wanted them—-and the demand was for diesel and gas engines. Every year, manufacturers introduce more hybrid and EV models while trimming fully gas/diesel models while more consumers migrate to hybrid and EV models.

I clearly pointed out that EVs are a money pit for automakers. A money pit, a money furnace, however you want to describe it. Meanwhile, they're making money hand over fist on ICE vehicles.

You don't have to take my word for it.

Ford loses $60K on each EV sold. https://www.fool.com/investing/2023/05/13/ford-loses-this-whopping-amount-of-money-on-each-e
GM expects to continue to lose money on its EV cars this year as it's done in every other year. https://www.thedrive.com/news/general-motors-will-lose-money-on-its-electric-cars-until-2025-report
Stellantis is cutting jobs to manage the cost of its EV business. https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/chrysler/2023/03/02/uaw-stellantis-execs-play-blame-game-over-plant-closure-job-cuts/69958784007/

Those are the Big Three.

It's pretty on brand for you not to care how the sausage is made as a progressive. But as I said, the EV topic is also not your forte.

During the ice storms of the last two years, so many EV owners were able to get warm by sitting in their vehicles and using the heaters because the charges lasted for days while power was being restored to homes. The advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
You’re saying electricity rates should rise so it seems as though you don’t understand that not all models are charged the same way and hybrids don’t require plugging in to charge.
Please respect my opinion as you expect yours to be respected.

Hybrids need gas. Eventually, they'd be phased out as well. They're a stopgap. Not the endgame.

Electricity rates will rise because of the increase in demand. The rating of your car, where you charge, what charge connector you use does not negate the reality that demand for electricity will surge as EV adoption rate increases. And the oligopolies in the power sector will push up the rates like is the case with cable.

Concurrently, gas prices would drop like a rock thanks to the double whammy of oil price decrease and the collapse of ICE ownership.

This is as predictable as the sun setting at dusk.

Again, you don't have to take my word for it. We've already had a preview.

For some electric vehicle owners, recharging now more costly than filling up. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/electric-car-2023-costs-gas-vehicles/

That's from February.

You'd know all this if this was within your competence area. But it isn't. So don't ask for your opinion to be respected when it is far divorced from verifiable facts.

If you agree with the ethicality of providing school kids food.

Then I have no problem with agreeing and disagreeing what are and aren't reasonable demands.
Free breakfast and lunch? This seems reasonable.
Dinner and snacks? I don't know, school hours don't usually extend long enough to warrant dinner, except maybe I'm wrong here.

Something the lawmakers should be discussing, don't you agree?

Free lunch for K-12 is already a thing.

The debate to be had is what more can be done for kids in low-income school districts. Not a blanket, universal four-meal-a-day diet plan when American kids are more overweight and obese than their counterparts in Europe.

There's always taxpayer money for other things like the afghan occupation which costed the US between 100-50 billion annually before leaving, and the current aid to Ukraine estimated to be about 75 billion currently.
But when it comes to the topics of programs that aid the American people that would cost a fraction of all that then there's a debt ceiling to consider.
Twisted sense of priorities.

They are not mutually exclusive.

There's no money for overseas warmongering. And there isn't for a nefarious plan drawn up by an ambitious bureaucrat who wants a larger budget.

Say we need better, healthier meals for the already existing lunch program. I'm all on board.

There are a lot of social programs competing for scarce taxpayer dollars.

So don't come panhandling to expand a program that already generates 530,000 tons of food waste annually.

You seem to not understand, I don't mind paying taxes, and I assume most people as well as long as those taxes go to programs that measurably makes society better, in this case it's providing food for school kids for fck sake.

You don't earn $10m pa.

I love how you say you don't mind paying taxes then demand for a tax that would not affect you.

Personally, I don't see what the issue is.

Massachusetts already offers free breakfasts in some schools. California just mandated free breakfasts and lunches this school year. You guys can push for universal free multi-course four-meal plans in your states if you choose. There is no reason why it has to be national. Push it and increase your state income taxes or whatever. No one would mind.

And just so you know, Florida, Texas, and a number of other red states already offer free breakfast programs for kids in low-income areas.

Norway and Denmark don't have universal school feeding programs. And yet the former has $1.3 trillion in a sovereign wealth fund and a population of only 5m. Sweden and Iceland only offer lunches. Finland offers lunch and breakfast to select schools.

That's the Nordics. Liberal utopia and even they have common sense school feeding policies. But wannabe communists like you call anyone who doesn't sign up for your transparent attempt to bloat public spending unprintable names.

We already have a National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the School Breakfast Program funded by USDA for low-income kids. These were established more than 50 years ago and have been regularly improved on ever since. Move your grubby fingers to something else.

Desantis’ candidate lost in one of the biggest upsets of this election. This is very interesting, especially since Jacksonville is Florida’s biggest city with the biggest amount of registered and active voters. After showing his true face, DeSantis would have trouble if he was seeking re-election as governor, the same kind of trouble he’ll have in his presidential bid.

Duval County is traditionally Republican friendly, having a Republican mayor in its seat located in Jacksonville since 2015. Desantis’ pick lost so the tides are indeed turning. Here’s an eye opening bit on the voter turnout—

We can all argue and debate endlessly with the Reich wing nuts and their shameless apologists, but one thing is clear! "Conservatism" (White nationalism, christo fascism, Nazism etc) is dying all over the world. And in America, it's already dead. 2024 will be the nail in the coffin and a different movement far different from "conservatism" will emerge.

Laura Ingraham OUT at Fox?

Drudge is reporting that in a major shakeup, the right-wing propaganda network has shifted its schedule, moving Hannity to Tucker's former 8p timeslot, Jesse Watters to 9p, and Greg Gutfeld to 10p.

There is no word as to how Ingraham fits in with the new purported primetime lineup — and the news could mean that she is following Tucker out the door.

Fox has responded to the report, stating, "No decision has been made on a new primetime lineup and there are multiple scenarios under consideration."

Economic Patriotism.
Beautiful point. Much of our military is made up of people straight out of high school, some even enlist and report for boot camp before their senior year. These are the people on the ground defending democracy but the people who benefit from that democracy have a problem with providing free meals while their in school?
This makes me think of people who migrate here and immediately look for ways to avoid taxes and also those who live in countries that receive foreign aid from us yearly but criticize the ‘high taxes’, saying it could never be them paying it. Everyone wants to benefit but so many want to benefit while complaining about where the contributions come from.

Yup. The poor fight the wars while the rich benefit from the spoils.... i.e Iraq etc. At least Trump was honest about his disdain.. calling the war dead losers and suckers.

The level of gas-lighting here. You do know that everyone believes (both Trump and Clinton) that it was FBI Director Comey's letter about the investigation into Clinton so close to the election that cost her the election. Both candidates had FBI investigations, but it was only Clinton's that was publicly known prior to the election. If I were a Republican I would welcome that "pro democrat Fbi corruption" anytime.

I don't care about losing them. I don't report people because of that. Try to get sense.

Don’t bother with these clowns bro. They will just say you photoshopped the pics. Even when you show them hard evidence with name tags they will still deny what their own eyes are seeing. You even took the picture from inside and outside and they still say it’s a lie 😂😂

it’s a fools errand arguing with these folks. That’s why I don’t bother anymore. People so small minded they think visiting America is a big deal 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😅😅😅😅😅

its because they can't accept reality. I told him and budaatum before now. that even if i show them they will deny it because they cannot accept the truth because of envy. well Ijebos is rejecting the truth because of envy. his mind is troubled... how can someone like Ben be in heaven that i call US while my father and relations are in Nigeria? that is the question he is possibly asking himself all night as he cannot sleep.

He should not worry, i will post more pics. that is before I traveled

It’s signs of megalomania bro. Read it up. When a person is so convinced in their warped and distorted mind that they are bigger than everyone else that they reject glaring evidence to the contrary when they see it with their own eyes. It’s actually a kind of mental disease. People like that can lie to themselves and actually believe their own lies.

Don’t post any pic with your current location for your own security. Possibly wait till you leave the country then drop an epic photo dump to silence these fools once and for all 😂😂😂

“You will never enter America” …I don’t know why whenever they post that shit I always read it in a primary school child’s voice 😂😂😅
