If that is true, then Africa is far behind
One of the major hindrances to Africa's industrialization is lack of capital. $19bn is big money in Africa.

Argggh! Did Austin not spam random Kenyan YouTubers' emails or Sammy go fishing around for people's information. Why didn't you call them out for that.

Egypt is still working on a city estimated around 25-30 Billion dollars but Egypt has suffered a lot in their economy due to this particular project and others.

Dangote project itself is like a city with a land size of over 2650 Hectares (thereabout), a special port, housing estate for workers and some top class chemical equipments specially built for the refinery in Europe, a special power plant with a capacity of 435MW and a subsea gas pipeline of over 1000km (to be ready probably 2026).

You mean all those things will be 19b? Or is a refinery alone costed 19b?

White elephant falls apart dangote refinery production delay ending of July. Nnpc has just acquired up to 30% of Dangote's Refinery making it Africa's biggest failure.

All these plus the refinery and the petrochemicals. The section for petrochemicals to produce plastics is also included. The fertiliser cost should be separate from the 19B I believe ( not totally sure).

However, the Fertiliser section producing and exporting urea cost 2.5 Billion dollars. That section has been completed since last year March.

You do realize Dangote only provided 3B..the rest are commercial loans n maybe some equity from Nigeria federal gov.Youll pay dearly for this refinery in very expensive refined fuel.Capital is important but at what cost? WHAT IS THE DISCOUNTED RATE OF THAT CAPITAL? CROOKED DANGOTES as always expect even 50 percent...you Nigerian will shed tears because DANGOTE doesn't intend to compete with efficient Indians, southnkoreans.,uae and Saudi refineries..expect tomorrow for old goat buhari to ban import of refine oil.

You must realize that Kenya is not Nigeria and that Dangote's investment in Lagos is significantly greater than what will be made in Kenya over the next 50 years. grin grin

The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has disclosed that the President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has started repaying some of the loans used in financing the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals.
cheesy grin. You must realize that Kenya is not Nigeria and that Dangote's investment in Lagos is significantly greater than what will be made in Kenya over the next 50 years.

While giving his address at the commissioning of the project in Lagos on Monday, Emefiele noted that the refinery which was initially estimated to cost about $9 billion when it started in 2013, was completed with a total of $18.5bn with funding distributed into 50 percent equity investment and 50 percent debt finance.

Emefiele, who noted that the commercial loan component of the project was financed majorly by domestic banks with the balance sourced from foreign banks, added that the CBN provided about N125 billion to cover domestic currency requirements for the venture.

What you may not be fully aware of, Your Excellencies, is that the Dangote Group has started repaying some of the commercial loans even before the commissioning of this facility. This reflects the commercial capability of the Group and its Chairman. I am pleased to inform everyone today that, following extensive repayments, outstanding debt has dropped appreciably from over US$9 billion to US$3 billion.”

“I must at this juncture appreciate all the participating local Nigerian banks, who did not only partner with the project through effective financing but were keenly aware of the importance of the project for our nation. They provided immense support and exceptional understanding, even when interest payments and principal repayment had fallen due
,” he said

The Dangote refinery which has the capacity to process 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day, is the largest single-train refinery in the world. Given this processing capacity, the refinery is more than able to meet all of Nigeria’s domestic fuel consumption, which is about 450,000 barrels per day; whilst the excess production will be available for export.

Unlike dysfunctional West Africa Kenya had self sufficient functional refinery until somewhere in 2013 when it stopped. First problem was it was inefficient then secondly it couldn't process sulfur free refined fuel.kenya got India Essar but they didn't invest the 600m dollars. So this excitement is crazy..Kenya a non oil producing country..always refined imported crude oil until 2010...when we started imported refined fuel as the trend towards large refineries took roots.Kenya petroleum refinery started in 1960s until 2013.Nigeria have handed their fuel future to Dangote to rip them apart

well, it could be the biggest industrial project, I don't know until I confirm that...... But if it is, u can't compare Egypt's city project with an industrial project built by a single person.

U know what WB rep said at CBN's RT-200 bi-annual summit on the 9th of this month? He commended dangote ( dangote was there ), he said and I quote "dangote single handedly built what sovereign nations build". I.e, it is rare for a business man to single handedly build a refinery, refineries are built by states!!!
