A few applicants would want to beat the system fraudulently in any which way undetected so the bolded isn't new regardless of which route. Before biometrics, there was 'Ori Olori' (face on top another person's face ), the link below is also known and we discussed how the right to appeal is misused so there will always be abuse of the system.. Out of the 81% rise, do we know what percentage are falsifying information? Of course it will be a fraction. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/may/16/british-men-making-thousands-by-posing-as-fathers-in-citizenship-scam Abandoning studies to switch to CoS (whether it's right or wrong) legally allows them to because the current guidelines says they can. I remember HSMP's initial requirement was a min Bachelor's and due to the net increase in migration, it was changed to Master's and later shut down few years after. Was HSMP abused as well? As long as applicant's come in legally and follow the guidelines, I don't think it's an abuse sha Zahra29: 3 Likes |

Bourne007: Yes it was back then between 2007 to 2009. There were a lot of underhand practices, people were using fictitious payslips and bank statements from Nigeria to meet the minimum financial requirement for the HSMP visa. Salaries from their UK jobs wasn’t sufficient for the requirement so, they would claim they were consulting in Naija and use forged payslips to meet up. It wasn’t just Nigerians that were involved though, Indians were equally as guilty. 1 Like |

Bourne007: Loool....gosh some people can be so brave! 😂 Unfortunately I think from the number of dodgy posts on nairaland alone, that it's more than a few bad apples. Not just in Nigeria, imagine the same unscrupulous activities being done in India, Sri Lanka etc and you can see why it can look like the system is increasingly being abused. It's not illegal to switch to cos, but when it becomes a trend, that people plan to pay a deposit or nominal amount just to get into the country and then quickly jump ship - then that's a misuse of the terms of their entry as they should really be applying for a work visa in the first instance. Once again it becomes a problem when it starts happening large scale. In 2019, no of dependants was about 16,000. No one batted an eyelid. Few people even knew what dependents were lol as it was t problem. Now it's probably around 200,000 which is the entire size of net migration pre brexit - on dependents alone! Imagine you invite someone to stay over at yours with no restrictions, so they're there as a welcome and legal guest/resident. Then this person gets married and has 3 children. Now it's a family of 5 and your house is still the same size. They're still staying at yours legally right? But would you not have a problem with the new state of affairs and even complain that they were abusing your hospitality? 4 Likes |

Yes I agree there will be those who fraudulently beat the system but I think the question, was the increase in net migration (HSMP or Dependants o) abuse of the system despite legally entering this system? Peerielass: |
Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Bourne007(m): 2:39pm On May 24, 2023 |
Great example Dependants came in with no restrictions because that's the law at the time. As the person don born 3 kids, it's expected to set some boundaries with new rules. I suspect they looked at previous years' statistics and felt the numbers wouldn't be that high. They really can't have their cake and eat it after revising and relaxing the immigration route. The UK government is simply very confused...... You cannot tweak the law, collect their application fees, but not want the individuals....... When next they decide to tweak immigration laws, they should have Nigerian, Indian and Chinese consultants on their board .......... (not just fresh oyinbo grads)........🤣😛😜 4 Likes |

Lexusgs430: They call it legal route to illegal migration. We all know that the main purpose of a large percentage of people who come to school is not to come to school but to japa. 9t 8s not illegal but is hitting them negatively in immigration figures so I guess they are adjusting to the situation. Thanks to the YouTube guys and all the people that overdo these things, they are getting to know the loopholes are plugging them. Article I stumbled across, not just Nigerians. I'm sure they will come for care companies shortly https://news.sky.com/story/amp/i-felt-scared-but-couldnt-do-anything-the-fake-families-being-smuggled-into-the-uk-12886913 2 Likes |

KOVIC19COVID20: You don't want a long waiting NHS list, but you also don't want immigrants to do the job when citizens won't. You complain the cost of living is high but you frown at people willing to work for a lesser cost ...it's a hard delimma for the politicians. |

KOVIC19COVID20:They are just jokers!! UK universities would start shutting down once they don't make money from international students again, ordinary covid period, so many lecturers were sacked because they could not afford to pay their salary |

justwise: Honestly, I don't understand this government and their fans. After setting up rules and people are following the same rules to get visas and paying huge, why are they still crying and complaining about them piggybacking and migrating through backdoor. There's just too much noise about the student route that you'd think international students came through boats. It's all about choices, when they tightened their borders years ago, people found alternatives, now that they're back at it, the same will happen. It's their right to choose who they allow into their country but it's wrong to keep bad mouthing people whose only crime was following the rules you set up. 5 Likes 1 Share |

LionInZion: All the refugees that came in like herds of cattle via the sea, those ones did not increase immigration number, its the people that contributed £10k-£16k for fees, paid NHS for at least family of 2, paid British Airways, Worked and paid overtime taxes...............F**K UK. 2 Likes |

hustla: Exactly 💯 Undergraduates are not allowed dependents and they study for 3-4 years. They make up more than half of the overseas student population and pay tens of thousands of pounds over the duration of their course, so why is no one advocating for them to be able to bring in dependents if they wish to?I had some mature students (as they were called) on my degree course who had families, so it's not only postgrads that have families. Students are still very welcome, all the govt is saying is that they do not have the resources to accommodate the hundreds of thousands of dependents that are now coming along. 1 Like |

Zahra29: I remember when I wanted to go to Ireland or so a few years ago, Griffith Uni actually at the time Reviews on NL and research discouraged me as many people trooped there at the time. You'd have to queue up to view houses according to reports and Im sure it paid no one except the Landlords Its a small country and they will do what will favor them at the end of the day.. or what they believe will Students and the gov can argue their side of the story and both sides will make salient points. Las las, we will all be Ok |

AirBay: The thing tire me o. Tbh, I don't even care what they do with their migration rules, my concern is the so much noise about the whole thing. Using words like piggybacking, backdoor, abuse of system, etc is a stigma and an insult to international students who worked hard, followed the laid down procedures and paid the required fees with their hard earned money. And if you as the government think anyone is abusing the application process, it's your embassies in those countries you should be tasking to up their game and curb the abuse. You were not under duress when issuing CAS to these people, you weren't held at gunpoint when issuing visas to them and their dependents. So, it was clear to you how many of them would be arriving even before they landed. Also, you didn't complain when your Universities were collecting fees from them, you gladly received their Visa fees and IHS. Then why the complaint for goodness sake! 8 Likes |

Bourne007: Agreed, and that's exactly what the gov has now done - analogous to the house owner putting his foot down and deciding there are now more occupants than he had envisaged and changes have to be made/ restrictions introduced. 1 Like |

hustla: And it's not just family housing under pressure. It's nursery and school places which might be free to attend, but cost the gov thousands per child, NHS waiting lists etc - that's what causes alarm for a small country with inadequate resources/ planning to cater for the large increase in migration. |
Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by justwise(m): 6:16pm On May 24, 2023 |
Zahra29: I get that but my question is..why did they allow them in in the first place? Govt knew the number of visas issued but they keep issuing more visas, no interview to know if these couple are genuine, if they actually have the money as claimed. Do you know that American embassy injected at least one VO here in travel section to help and educate Nigerians applying for all sorts of visas. That VO was here for years answering questions and still interview Nigerians at the embassy, many fake applicants from this section were caught and exposed partly because of info they were able to gather here. British embassy just focused on PBS with little or no check. 2 Likes 1 Share |

justwise: UK is not sophisticated in every policy or technology area. If they were they would have implemented block account like Germany a long time ago. As an aside, it greatly annoys me how they enable a lot of abuse of the social housing system due to their complacency/ laziness/ unsophistication etc etc Also, probably due to greed and being too focused on meeting the international student targets the department of education had set. They definitely became too lenient/careless and are also to blame for the mess that's ensued. |

Zahra29: UK govt cannot have their cake and eat it. Students coming in pay fees, they pay IHS, they have no recourse to public funds. They inject so much hard cash into the system at once. What is the government and their systems doing with all that funds? All that money should have been invested into improving all these services you talked about. Nothing like that was done, so you can't blame legal immigrants for the problems. Let them change the rules like they did pre-PBS, Nigerians will switch to other locations, the UK will still be worse off at the end of the day. 6 Likes |
