Zahra29: Thank you š Yes I think he enjoyed studying and working as a marine engineer. But he only worked for two years after his OND and life happened so he didnāt go back to finish the HND. This was over ten years ago. And before we relocated he was into real estate and other side businesses. He didnāt have an office job for over 10 years. He doesnāt mind going back into marine engineering but he will need a degree. He is also open to other engineering fields. |

Hi there, I will advise giving IT Support Role a trial. Itās the easiest way to creep into IT. Cybersecurity is not always the stepping stone into IT for a newbie. So many free courses on Coursera for IT support (Google and IBM recommended) Follow Kelvin Apolinario on LinkedIn, he has loads of free hands on training. If you donāt mind paying, Jobskillshare is who I will recommend. Adunnishugar: 11 Likes 5 Shares |

Adunnishugar: Ok. If he's having a tough time with cybersecurity. Can you look into software testing? Another option is for him to do a short course and get an MLA job in the NHS. There are lots of other opportunities in the NHS but he needs to step in first. 2 Likes |

Zahra29:This is highly insensitive of you and uncalled for. Is people like you that will pay keen attention to their friend's problems so that they can have story to tell when the friend thinks they want to help. If you cannot profer solution don't compound the problems. 20 Likes |

Adunnishugar: Where do you live? If he wants to continue the Marine Engineering route then he needs to be where those jobs are - Southampton, Portsmouth, Felixstowe, Lowestoft and the Glasgow/Edinburgh axis. Quite a lot of those jobs are also FIFO but not sure if he can get FIFO straight off the bat. Otherwise he can upskill in the same specialisation (if he wants to continue that pathway) and get into work that way. There are free career coaches at the job centre or find a Crisis Skylight if there's one near you. They offer career advice as well. 1 Like |

Adunnishugar: The so called care job is a minimum paying job for mostly cause they donāt get more certifications and training there are people in the Sector that earns40k to 50 yearly and they are fine.the bottom line just develop your skill no be everyone go fit do business analyst or data analyst earn all these courses you have to be ready to do some more sacrifices and spend more. My company team leader is 23 lol she canāt even look at me some times if I have one on on with her cause of my stature and my age lol but I still obey her she dy drive 20plate car with customized name all she did was college and lots of certifications and me I went to uni studied chemical engineering but my experience is not recognized. So I have to start from the scratch so itās best we do something we can that mental and health sector as for me is a easy path to reach the top than those complicated IT industry 3 Likes |

Adunnishugar: Could he try looking into an engineering apprenticeship? That would enable him work and earn and gain valuable skills while working towards a degree or other qualification at the end of the apprenticeship. See a couple of examples below - https://uk.indeed.com/m/viewjob?jk=93f6b2947662c00d&from=serp https://uk.indeed.com/m/viewjob?jk=a6be2203ef937e87&from=serp He may need to convert/map the OND to the corresponding UK level qualification, but hopefully he should easily meet the entry requirements. Let me know if you need any info or help x 1 Like |
