How Many Leased Aircraft Are There In The World? Over 10,000 leased aircraft make up a large part of the global aircraft fleet. Leasing is a very common way for airlines to operate aircraft. The largest leasing companies are the biggest owners of aircraft globally and lease these to airlines - often on long term contracts. You wouldn't know it when watching aircraft or flying, but most airlines have at least a proportion of leased aircraft, and many operate all-leased fleets. Over 10,000 leased aircraft Of course, the number of leased aircraft will change daily. Airline fleets changes, ownership shifts, and aircraft are bought and sold continually. Events occurring in Russian aviation at present will have significant effects on leasing there. Based on data from ch-aviation.com, as of mid-March 2022, there are 10,738 active aircraft registered with leasing companies globally. This is similar to the number of operator owned aircraft - currently listed as 9,715 by ch-aviation.com. Why do airlines lease aircraft? Just because airlines will operate aircraft painted in their own liveries does not necessarily mean that they own them. Leasing is a common way for airlines to handle the incredibly high cost of new aircraft. They simply lease some whilst possibly owning others. This enables airlines to expand operations without having to finance the outright purchase of aircraft. They can enter into a leasing agreement with the owning company and make regular payments to lease aircraft - which can be funded as the aircraft and route should be generating money. We should point out that there are different types of leases. The most common is the dry lease - a straightforward agreement for an airline to take an aircraft from a leasing company for a set period of time. The airline will operate, maintain and crew the aircraft. The other alternative is a wet lease. This is where the lessor provides the aircraft, crew, maintenance, insurance and operates it on the airline's behalf. These are less common and usually short term arrangements. https://simpleflying.com/how-many-leased-aircraft-are-there-in-the-world/ 2 Likes |

There is nothing wrong in leasing an aircraft but Nigeria should not start her own airline with a leased aircraft. Common, that aircraft should be our pride and fly our flag around the world. For a start it should be a brand new aircraft . They've been on this stuff long enough to have brand new one now 3 Likes |

Lease for show or to operate? Go and read about the history of Ibom air and the Nigerian Air. Compare the budget and operational plan before rolling your sophisticated madness over to the next 8 years. As sane as some of you claim to be, a Buhari still scammed you effortlessly for 8 years, and in a manner that's unprecedented. 6 Likes |

This Buhari's government really siphoned the Nigerian treasure. This is the most corrupt government so far. They spent billions of naira in trying to set up a national carrier with nothing to show for it. In other to cover their tracks, they decided to do a last minute gboju gboju. Same thing happened with the revamping of the refineries, after budgeting billions of dollars in turn around maintenance of the refineries, nothing is happening their. I am not surprised. |
