But I chose the one that has the highest pay, later after 3month, I was sacked...

I had to send mail to the other two, luckily one replied and I was employed back...

My little take is it depends on ur long term. If ur short to medium term plan is japaing u'll need funds ...and lots of it considering u are trying to recover from recession. If ur ur long term plan was nigeria I would have reluctantly gone with the government job but that would be after I have know about other perks

Also the gap b/w the funds in the private and govt job is too wide ....if it was a case of max 2 and half times higher than the government i would have suggested government esp if ur plan was to remain in Nigeria


Also with private firms where ever they pay decent ..apart from ioc, telecoms, oil and gas servicing companies...u'll need to know more about the role and company....if the company has been existing for long ..u could check LinkedIn to see if u can dialog with previous or current staff members to get an idea of the work environment. If its a startup ...except ur very good work pressure wise I would advise against it


If u take up the private u have to settle ur debts and immediately start putting plans in motion for japa now inflow is coming in...because that is d mistake a lot of ppl make they keep procrastinating and procrastinating ...assuming all things work out well within a few years u can japa...and incase things at the company dont go straight forward...at least u'll have the funds to japa

Exactly the point, I have taken a private job before that I set the company up personally from the scratch because the owner has no experience at all about the biz. After helping to set up the biz and even got him lucrative deal with state govt. He sacked me that he no longer need my service and gave me one month salary in lieu.... That is why I am so careful about this one too, cos once beaten twice shy but at the same time I need good pay to cover the lost years and plenty debts hanging on my neck

The salary from government can't even feed my 2 year old daughter for a month talkless of paying my rent and settling other bills. Once I hit 10 years on the job, I plan to Japa because the system is nothing to write home about. You won't believe we have not been paid May 2023 salary because of technical glitches from the CBN.

Bottom line? Grab the 500K job with your full chest!

It's a terrible thing to be jobless in one's 40s with mouths to feed. I would recommend the FG job. If 95k is what is stated on your appointment letter, then your total pay will be significantly more than that. Before I left Nigeria, I was working in a federal government establishment. My offer letter stated 76k, but my take home after tax was around 108k. This was 10 years ago.

Stop exaggeration. Which kind of food does your 2 years old daughter eats that a salary of level 9 worker can't feed her?

It's not a cruise.... It's a producing pharmaceutical company, also has subsidiaries in retail and restaurant businesses. GM is as good as a director position. That aside, my only fear is job security, I have no doubt of performing and even exceeding the set targets cos I'm a workaholic. I'm only scared of setting things up fine and they ask me to go cos it has happened to me in the past. It's a one man biz. I'm 41 and I may not get opportunity to even rise to be director in FG job cos of retirement age but at least FG has job security. I have been out of job for over 2yrs and it's been crazy surviving

Job security doesn't exist anywhere.
As long as the company is in business they will definitely need your input.


My advise is he should go for the 500k offer.

Also, there are some experience you will have na job go dey find you.
As a general manager in a pharmacitical company? He nor fit look for job again. Except he is just a figure head. At that position it's higher level to another.

I will advise you to take the private job. What’s job security without fulfillment? That’s the only argument for the federal job.

You are not any younger to take a federal job now, think about the years left to work there.

me and u know say na the 500k job dey ur eye, and it is reasonable and very good. No let anybody deceive u to tell u Federal government kin, I b security blah blah blah. U are 45years and u can't get to the highest point before retirement kicks in... In your years of working for the government job, you might never make up to 30 million accumulated savings, but with the 500k job, few months u will clear ur debt and be able to save up for an investment that will set you up for life even after retirement...

that 500k is mouth watering offer, but another thing is government is for survival, am a state civil servant but the good news is FG pays the pensioner quickly, the ball is in ur court now, quick big money vs Long lasting small money!
