I'm certain this is unconstitutional. But we shall indeed see.

Sure, Nigerians are entitled to move freely and reside anywhere in the country, but each 'land' has got its history and indigenes.

Just like a Yoruba man cannot go to Imo state and say it is a no man's land, or an Igbo man going to Katsina state to say it is a no man's land; why then should an Igbo man go to Lagos and say it's a no man's land? I think this is wrong.

Yes, we are Nigerians and can stay anywhere, but some people actually 'own' those 'lands'.

The key phrase above is "They bought"!

That means you willy-nilly chose to sell your ancestral lands to them and exchange ownership! You didn't conditionally or unconditionally LEASE out the land!

You literally forfeited ownership!... So, why the tears??!
If you had outrightly held on properties and refused offers, regardless of how tempting, there would be no basis for such bellyaching (That's exactly what you're doing above)!
OK. So it means Sabon-gari which is populated by Igbos should be seen as Igbo land, and by extension, any place Igbo's populate belongs to them, so kano is Igbo state. U no see your mind. Very small

Good!!!

If this is the only thing that the 10th Lagos assembly achieved, so be it.

Lagos is a Yoruba land, not a chinedu land.

Let that ring to your skull.

Awa laleko, awon niwon ni Anambra.

It should be included in the Act that anyone who tagged Lagos State a no man's land should be liable for a prison sentence not less than 10 years because this is the 10th assembly setting the records straight.

Any person or group of persons caught calling themselves or himself an Eze in Lagos State has committed an offence punishable with a prison sentence not less than 10 months with HARD LABOR.

Let anyone calling Lagos"No man's Land" pay a N10 Million fine instead

Prison is too harsh

Hope the court will do the needful when you try any rubbish. What am seeing is people that want to shoot their own selves, this will make other states to target your own people.

They can make a law to limit the number of years that lands and landed property bought by non-indigenes will expire, may be after 50 years or so.

All your rants end here on nairaland. Such laws will never make any headway hence the Niger-delta states will have long passed laws to control their oil resources and what will happen to poor states like Ekiti and Osun? How will they survive without oil money?

Don't mix orange with apple , it depends on the type of law , the states have power to make laws but it depends on the type of laws , in Kano state for example , you can't just flex yourself in the open taking Trophy or Goldberg even if you take these drinks, and there is a particular punishment you will get for a particular offence which will be different from the one you get in Port - Harcourt for the same offence, so state have different laws, especially if they are not in contradiction with the national law.

So for the fact that states have this different minor laws , will not make South - South or all oil producing states to pass any major law that will put oil control under them, which it's on the exclusive list not even on the concurrent list let alone residual list .

That was the same game GRV tried to play in Lagos by seperating Lagos yorubas from other yorubas, and it backfired bigly on his face. Infact, Obasa, an Awori yoruba from Agege just said Lagos is Yorubaland.

The same game they also play by trying hard to divide Yorubas in Muslim and Christians. All those shenanigans doesn't work on the SW unlike other regions of Nigeria.

It's effort in futility.

"Yoruba muslims and christians" is the joke by Igbos I scoff and laugh at the most.

I was alluding to aviation, customs, corporate tax, VAT, etc. Igbps do petty trading and that type of low-level trading doesn't contribute anything to the coffers since Lagos isn't advanced enough to tax them. The IGR breakdown of Lagos was on this forum a few months ago and they contribute zilch to the IGR. Even in advanced countries like the UK and US - that type of business isn't taxed effectively because it's pretty difficult to know how much they make.

You Igbos overrate yourselves with unnecessary noise whilst being vacuous - for a destitue ethnic group of mostly economic refugees. You contribute zilch everywhere but act like the life of the party. And I must commend you because you have done a good job in bamboozling semi-educated Nigerians to believe the vacuous hype. But too bad you can't fool educated people.

Nairaland doesn't really tell much when it comes to understanding how other Nigerians feel about Igbos because there are too many impostors claiming what they're not on here. You have to go to the rabbit hole of Twitter (which I do from time to time) - to understand what other Nigerians feel about Igbos. In Delta, amongst the ANIOMA people, they don't like Igbos and I only recently discovered (via them) that Asaba was founded by Igalas and it's an Igala town. And that's a contrast to what I've been made to believe on Nairaland. Other ethnic groups in Delta also don't like Igbos. Ditto Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Calabar and Ijaw people.

Evidently, the anti-Igbo sentiment is universal across Southern Nigeria and the only group with a section of people that wear pom-poms for Igbos seem to Yorubas. But it's good to see those in this misguided/miseducated group of Yorubas are finally waking up. And hopefully, now that Lagos has taken the lead - other Yoruba states will follow its lead.

Igbos are like that irritant neighbour who refuses to stay in his/her house whilst laying claims to other people's houses. Why can't Igbos go home and stay in Igboland? Yes, I know Igboland is a desolate pigstyl but the energy you lot expend on laying claims to other people's lands - with grossly exaggerated claims of ownership you don't have, phantom wealth and junk pseudo-history - would be very useful in making Igboland habitable. You're hated everywhere and it's time you started looking at home (home is in Igboland).

Bro it was someone from Delta state that first warned me about them, and everything he said about them have turned out to be true when I started getting involved with them. South south people that I know hate them with a passion, this includes Edo people as well.

lol did you just say federal govt is the owner of lands in Nigeria? lol. You know next to nothing about laws governing land ownership in Nigeria. The state owns every inch of land within its border. Don’t be fooled, FG have no land ownership in any state.

Nigeria is a composition of different nations with their lands with FG as the head of the different nations who can never claim ownership of any space in a state without proper approval from the state. Ignorance of some people is amazing.

It is more stupid than wrong if you ask me, and even more stupid to think legislation needs to be passed against it.

If a Yoruba person goes to Imo or Katsina and says it's no man's land, which they can indeed say though some level of insanity must be involved, Igbo and Katsina people should watch him claim that so called no man's land for himself and see how far it gets him.

Land belongs to the title holder regardless of origin. But I guess Lagosians must fear. They must have heard the next Oba of Lagos is from Imo or Katsina or somewhere like that, or they'd just laugh at any idiot who says Lagos is no man's land.

If we should even discuss the real owner of lagos

The Binis own lagos

Please if you don't know your history don't quote me

Meet any of your elderly ones and ask them or rather walk into any of your monarch Palace and seek

Binis do not own Lagos State.
They once occupied a fishing spot in the Island area of Lagos.
It doesn't make them the owners of Lagos.
Why not say also that the Brits own Nigeria because they once invaded and colonized it?
You seem not to understand the difference between Lagos Island and Lagos State.
Go back and re-read your history.

A vast majority of the people here do not understand this fundamental aspect of the laws governing land ownership in Nigeria, that land is sold under a leasehold agreement not a freehold agreement, similar to what obtains in some areas of London. The governor of a state holds all the cards and can legally revoke land C of O at any time. You cannot lease for longer than 99 years!
"The Nigerian Land Use Act 1978 is the principal legislation regulating land tenure in Nigeria. Section 1 of the Law states that “Subject to the provisions of this Act, all land comprised in the territory of each State in the Federation are hereby vested in the governor of that State and such land shall be held in trust and administered for the use and common benefit of all Nigerians in accordance with the provisions of this Act”.

"Landowners need to acquire a Certificate of Occupancy, generally known as C of O, which the State Governments of the land will issue as evidence of a right of occupancy. This right of occupancy is granted to individuals to occupy, develop and use the ground for a period not exceeding 99 years. "
This means all the rights you have for this land are a lease, which just means the government may take your land anytime.
Although the Land Use Act states that land use must not exceed 99 years, the Act does not specify if a Certificate of Occupancy granted can be renewed after the expiration of the 99-year leasehold, leaving the Governor with the option to continue or not.

Someone just said up there that FG is the sole owner of lands in Nigeria. People we share space with.

This is very unnecessary if those who are targeted by this move have been behaving themselves in a civilized manner and not exhibiting their barbaric and nonsensical behaviour, claiming what they are not.

No matter how comfortable you are in the midst of your host you don't disrespect them.

Even if you get US citizenship as a Nigeria or a blackman, the moment you all start disrespecting the natives, they'll put you where you belong.

You are only hated because of your uncouth and uncivilised behaviour.....no be only you dey the Lagos, there are several others from different ethnic group who owns properties and millions of investment but don't make noise or constitute nuisance like you.

Your post is quite intriguing.

Are you saying that if a Yoruba man buys 100% of the lands in Kano, Zamfara or Enugu state, then these states become Yoruba lands in spite of the history and origin of those lands?
