The Edo State governor Mr Godwin Obaseki, has disclosed that 5,600 vehicles run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

The governor disclosed this in Benin while speaking to journalists on fuel subsidy removal.

“Data from NIPCO Gas, a joint-venture company between NIPCO and Nigeria Gas Company Limited (NGC), indicate that over 5,600 vehicles in Benin City run on Compressed Natural Gas after the initiative was rolled out in 2007 and commissioned in 2009,” he said.

He called on investors to make investments in alternative sources of energy such as natural gas in the wake of subsidy removal, which had led to a hike in transportation costs.


“We are blessed with a lot of gas in Edo. There is really no reason why our tricycles and vehicles should be using petrol. We have more gas stations in Edo than any other state. We should be using more gas.

“Price levels would always go up. What we have to do is to open up the economy so that people will have more work to do. We need more manufacturing companies in Edo State.”

“The gas initiative was launched after a presentation by NIPCO Plc to roll out a pilot scheme to an inter-ministerial team of the Federal Government in 2007.

“NIPCO Gas has established 15 CNG running stations in Benin to provide an alternative for the Gasoline run automobiles,” he said.

Na expenses..

For Gen, you have to buy an original, not fake or sub standard cylinder... Else!

The cylinders cost money..

Conversation cost money.

The gas cost money.


CNG is not CNA.

Thinking of converting my V6 Acura car to this CNG, but I don't know the cost implications.
If it's going to be cheaper than petrol or not

Lol I don't know anything Abt this type of Gas buh the one I know av seen normal vehicle use is the Cooking Gas which is 640 now buh still last more than Petrol...

Is it in normal filling station that the gas is filled or does it have its own separate stations somebody should elaborate more I'm interested. which it could be a very profitable venture in the wake of the subsidy removal.

Does anyone know the processes involved I the conversion?
People would be interested in this process if the cost is lower than running on petrol..

SON needs to do thier work diligently coz Chukwudi and his brothers will soon go and be producing the least inferior products that will harm consumers coz the demand for CNG will be high now.

These are one off costs. In the long run there is gain. CNG is better than relying on PMS which price fluctuates dangerously.

It's more than 5,600, Nigerians don't keep data. I live in Benin City, we have many stations but no much awareness for them since they get their salary from FG. Just one experience center they are playing.

110-150 naira per liter.
Installation here in Abuja by NIPCO costs 342,000 per vehicle. With CNG of 2000 naira you can cover 160km.

How is it his tears mofo...as if u are buying fuel @ ronu price of 100 naira...u self might be d bigger stake holders in d tears GANG ..if your income is lower than his amist ...500 naira per liter and hyper inflation
