It's not about how much was the earning then. The inflation is just too much. A neighbour that earns over 100k/months begs people for transport to go to work. Don't justify this madness called inflation.

Didn't expect you to attend to that stupid question

Losers complain. Smart people see opportunities in times of difficulties.

Imagine someone who plants cassava (minimal maintenance) and yam this period. The outlook is very encouraging. The unemployed loser lounging in the cities waiting for God to pick his/her imaginary calls can relocate to the village to farm. In a year or two, s/he will have more than enough money to start life on a good footing.

You know what to do.

Or better, start robbing the farmers because they don't deserve their wages. cool

They should increase the prices more to drain the swamp.

At this stage Nigeria should be practicing semi-Communism. Government should provide free buses that will be taking unemployed people to and fro farms every day. No verifiable proof of employment? Catch him! All of those yahoo boys/girls? Free farm labour! All of them will be housed in big dorms. At the end of two years, each will be settled with an agreed amount. Watch unemployment go below 1%.

it's really madness! Soon there won't be any middle class in nigeria. A salary of 100k per month is now worthless in Nigeria. Even a bachelor won't be able make a living from it talk more of a family man.

Around the mid-90s, I was a little child then still following my mother to the market. My mother was into buying and selling palm oil. I may not remember everything again but I can still remember vividly that before we returned home, she would buy 10 cups of Garri for N10. If it is 15 cups, it would be N15. 20 cups would go for N20. That's N1/cup. That was in stock to serve till the next market day.

As a son of a palm oil seller, against all odds, I have strived to attend education up to tertiary level only to come back and be hit with unemployment, in an economy with throat-cutting inflation. That same Garri that was N1/cup, the attached photo is 6 cups for N500. This is not even enough for one mouth not to talk of several mouths. How did Nigeria become this expensive and difficult for average citizens to survive amidst massive unemployment/underemployment?

The recent removal of fuel subsidy has even worsened the whole situation, making prices of goods and services beyond the reach of the common citizens.

"Can the poor breathe please?"

I am an applicant with mouths to feed, finding it difficult to survive each day. And as a Nigerian living in Nigeria, can I at least breathe until I get a job or find capital to start a business and things become better?

Undoubtedly, millions of Nigerians are in my shoes, and even worst. This is evident in the Nigerian streets.

Yahoo, kidnapping, money rituals, etc are not meant for everybody but unfortunately, the youth are being pushed into it due to the state of the economy. Note: I'm not in any way in support of the aforementioned.

In Tinubu's voice, I would say, please,

"LET THE POOR BREATH".
"DON'T SUFFOCATE THEM".

And on behalf of unemployed Nigerian youths, WE WANT TO BREATHE. DO WELL TO HELP THE UNEMPLOYED WITH A JOB AND ANY OTHER SUPPORT.

Yes, I am laughing.

I can recall back in the 1990's that people used to say then that in the late 1970's, a loaf of bread cost 50 kobo, margarine cost less than 20 kobo, and a bottle of beer cost somwhere around 75 kobo. That right now (1995) we are suffering

Oga, you have spoken well, but back in the 1990's, people complained a lot about how harsh the economy was then, how the naira was being beaten up by the dollar, how inflation was biting us, and how bad things were.

Even the garri you are thinking was cheap then....it was expensive by the standards of the day. Yes, and back in the 1990's. people were talking about the good old days when garri cost in kobo .....

I can recall that one guy I once knew back back in the early 1990's treated his friends with soft drinks, meatpie and buns. Total cost for 7 people...N25.

Even cars. In 1990, a new Peugeot 505 cost somewhere around N900000 . In 1983, that same car cost N12000. Today, any Peugeot product in Nigeria can't be less than N5million.

Even then, unemployment was a big problem back then. A very big problem back then. Part of the reason why I did the course I did...a medical related course, was because my parents back then saw that if someone read a 4 year course, him go search for job. Medicine was still employing...so better go there

Go and read Chiamanda Adiche's book, Americanah. Read the first few chapters. You will see how people suffered in those days. Nigeria of the 1980's and 1990's.

Ol boy, things were tough back then. And it is because all of our administrations, including this one ...the Tinubu admin, all of them ran economies based on the price of oil, and over importation. That is why we don;t have enough jobs, because everyone is importing stuff...and as a result, any domestic manufacturing is crushed. Like in the 1980's most textiles used in Nigeria was made here. Foreign made textiles were seen as bad (my late gran would call someone who bought foreign textiles 'unwise'). Now, they are...all foreign...because we Nigerians too like foreign things. Even now, we want more dollars...because...

Oga, the day you Tinubu, Atiku, Obi and other supporters stop arguing, and start being productive, we may eventually see our way out of this mess. That's why I am not a supporter of LP, APC, PDP, and co. Because not one of them has proposed a policy as to how we would get off oil. Yes, Tinubu has not told us how we would and should get off oil, which is why I do not support him, same for Obi, and same for Atiku. And until we are ready to stop being resource dependent, the cycle is going to continue.
