Who will believe that, Tin of Powdered Milk that costs N1,600.00 now, was once N1.00

Yes, and back then that was 'expensive'

That milk cost N1 did not mean that oga husband and father could afford it...salaries were probably somewhere around N100-200, and then you still had to pay rent and stuff.

Plus until 1984, some food items, milk inclusive, were heavily subsidised. The subsidy was removed because thanks to the oil price collapse of 1982, we just did not have the money to keep milk down.

Did he need to go to university and come back to sell palm oil?

University work does not necessarily mean you will end up in office.

The founder of a certian agro-allied company in Nigeria graduated in 1987. No job, so he went into 'farming' and his business grew....

Just an advice like I said before. Because people do talk about unemployment as if every educated Nigerian were gainfully employed in the past. Graduates have been encountering unemployment difficulties for a long time, except for the oil boom era of the 70s that did not last more than 10 years

True that.

That's because of the oil boom, and because Nigeria was replacing the colonial staff that were leaving. Plus, expansion of government.

It all went to pot in 1982....when the oil price crashed.

Good old days. Coins were still in use then. I think Garri was even 50kobo or less then. Democracy really destroyed Nigeria.

It's well bro. Just manage it. We are all managing. Those who have don't even care about those who don't have. If you know how much is spent to feed dogs in this country everyday when people cannot afford a good square meal, you'd be surprised.

No, it was not the good old days.

Nigerians were complaining and groaning about how we were suffering back in the 1990's. Yes coins were in use...50K coins. Ten to fifteen years earlier, we had 5k, 10k, 25k, coins...by 1987, such coins were being sparingly used, and by 1991, the coins ceased to exist.

We even had half kobo then.

The ecomony was not good. Do not be decieved by the 'low prices'. Salaries then were lower...probably between N900-N5000. Someone earning N10000 was probably working for some lucrative private company.

You forgot to add that the cup back then was almost twice the cup being used now... They used one cup they called cigarette cup. Not this tiny cup being used now. All I will advice anyone now is to farm. Please. It really does help. A little farm with okra, maize, cassava, some heads of yam and pepper plants can sustain you for such a long time and cut down your feeding expenses like crazy. All this so called city life while you are drinking garri to survive is not worth it. Leave the city to those who can afford to stay there. At least until your prospects improve then you come back. My 2cents anyway.

I have some question for you and if you can answer it. Solution to inflation on staple food is over.
1. What is Nigeria Population then compare to present population?
2. How many people are engaged in the production of Garri then compare to now.

55truth:
Around the mid-90s, I was a little child then still following my mother to the market. My mother was into buying and selling palm oil. I may not remember everything again but I can still remember vividly that before we returned home, she would buy 10 cups of Garri for N10. If it is 15 cups, it would be N15. 20 cups would go for N20. That's N1/cup. That was in stock to serve till the next market day.

As a son of a palm oil seller, against all odds, I have strived to attend education up to tertiary level only to come back and be hit with unemployment, in an economy with throat-cutting inflation. That same Garri that was N1/cup, the attached photo is 6 cups for N500. This is not even enough for one mouth not to talk of several mouths. How did Nigeria become this expensive and difficult for average citizens to survive amidst massive unemployment/underemployment?

The recent removal of fuel subsidy has even worsened the whole situation, making prices of goods and services beyond the reach of the common citizens.

"Can the poor breathe please?"

I am an applicant with mouths to feed, finding it difficult to survive each day. And as a Nigerian living in Nigeria, can I at least breathe until I get a job or find capital to start a business and things become better?

Undoubtedly, millions of Nigerians are in my shoes, and even worst. This is evident in the Nigerian streets.

Yahoo, kidnapping, money rituals, etc are not meant for everybody but unfortunately, the youth are being pushed into it due to the state of the economy. Note: I'm not in any way in support of the aforementioned.

In Tinubu's voice, I would say, please,

"LET THE POOR BREATH".
"DON'T SUFFOCATE THEM".

And on behalf of unemployed Nigerian youths, WE WANT TO BREATHE. DO WELL TO HELP THE UNEMPLOYED WITH A JOB AND ANY OTHER SUPPORT.

I don't know why people think the prices of things should remain the same.
The price your mum bought also differs from what your grand mum bought.
What your child will buy will be different from what you bought too.

Losers complain. Smart people see opportunities in times of difficulties.

Imagine someone who plants cassava (minimal maintenance) and yam this period. The outlook is very encouraging. The unemployed loser lounging in the cities waiting for God to pick his/her imaginary calls can relocate to the village to farm. In a year or two, she will have more than enough money to start life on a good footing.

You know what to do.

Wereeey it's always easy on Paper.

So where will someone who is staying in Lagos and still trying to find his feet find Land to do farming.

It's always easy to Relocate to other States and start afresh on Paper.

HerdsMen and Bandits fall on you.
