PDPGuy: The SCOTUS has also struck down the silly student loan forgiveness program Before you decide if college is right for you and take a loan to pay for it, ensure that you have a plan to pay it back Education till High school is free, what you decide to do with your life as an adult is your business Other taxpayers shouldn't be burdened by the choices you make. At least after your education when you become a successful wall street guy raking in millions as bonuses, You will not ask Chris the barber on Main street to drive your Lamborghini nor live in your Mansion 5 Likes 1 Share |

raumdeuter: It's a tough case. I think in this case the plaintiff went out their way to say they were going to discriminate against LGBTQ. In most cases people find other ways. In fact as I was reading it seems the plaintiff didn't even have a LGBTQ client at that time. Seems like one of those cases that was designed to reach the Supreme Court to make new law/policy/precedent. 1 Like |

raumdeuter: The Federal Government subsidizes a lot of things they think are good for the US. They subsidize Farming, Oil and Gas, Subsidize people getting certain degrees, they have loan forgiveness programs for certain fields, during the pandemic they had PPP loans that were forgiven, the GI Bill etc etc. The question should have been whether Biden had a legal right to do what he did. Not if we agree with his policy preference. The Supreme Court seems to be wading into the latter. 1 Like |

IjeBos: Its a tough case and I think I agree with the SCOTUS on this ruling. If you are looking at the opening from a LGBTQ or racial discrimination standpoint, you can also look at it from a personal safety POV, even freedom to choose who you serve. Most businesses have either written or unwritten rule of who their potential customer who gets service should be. If you don't feel comfortable with your cook or cleaner you shouldn't have to use her service Saying you MUST serve me regardless of how you feel about it sounds like slavery to me Like I said unless you are an essential service or monopoly 5 Likes |

IjeBos: There are certain fields who are doing what might be national security interest and should be given incentive, E.g joining the military or Public safety officers or service as a healthcare worker in pandemic or fire service. These are some examples of essential services we cannot quantify and fully pay them for their contribution to our lives. Biden as president has the right to make a policy, any policy, because there will be some benefit to it. The 2nd part is what the SCOTUS IMO should be judging whether the policy brings any material change to the rights of all the citizen or put some at a disadvantage 3 Likes |

raumdeuter: You’re right, some people may use this new SCOTUS ruling as the basis for unduly discriminating against others based on sex, race etc. But I think that if a company has a reputation for being unduly discriminatory against, say, certain races or sexual identities, then that company would receive a bad rap in the public and may ultimately go bankrupt. So, the Colorado web designer may have won today, but market forces could change her business practice sooner or later 1 Like 1 Share |

raumdeuter: TBH, the student loan policy is one that I see merits on both sides. Yes, I agree that adults should be responsible for the bills that they incur, including loans. As businesses take out loans daily to fund their activities, and have an obligation to repay those loans, those who took out student loans should also be obliged to pay back. But on the other hand, can we really blame some graduates for the difficulty in paying back the loans, when they were indoctrinated from childhood that a college education is the only ticket to living the typical American middle class lifestyle. And that even if you have to take out a $180k loan for a tertiary education, you must do so? |
Re: American Politics Thread - 2024 Elections — Biden’s Presidency! by raumdeuter: 8:22pm On Jun 30, 2023 |
PDPGuy: Can we really blame people who take loans for business and fail when we have been indoctrinated that starting a business is the way to the American dream. I also took a mortgage can govt forgive it since I was indoctrinated to believe home ownership is key to being successful in America Its a gamble you chose to take. Take loans, get a college degree and get a starting job of almost 6 figures or don't take a loan, learn a trade and become a blue collar who might not make as much as the college educated one If I chose to become a boxer and take a loan but couldn't make money from it will govt pay me back? The college educated and non college educated are all equal, they made their decisions and all should live with the consequence. Not govt putting their hand on the scale to favor one 3 Likes 2 Shares |

budaatum: Recent days service denial because if skin color is not at the forefront of public discuss, it's about ideological push and virtue signaling. You have no religious liberty if you are a christian, you cannot discriminate based on your belief. |

bemeruca: Recent days. And perhaps because the law did not permit it. This law though does permit it. A Christian can now believe a person is a sinner and therefore decide to discriminate against them since they now have liberty to. I think this has a lot longer to play, and I intend to keep watching to see how. |

Read some of the testimony of the Hunter Biden whistleblowers. Was curious to see if it was legit. Fortunately and Unfortunately it was a tough week for flying. So read most of whistle blower 2's testimony and the minority lawyers' (Dems) questioning of Whistleblower 1. Some takeaways. 1.) The majority of what the whistleblowers are complaining about happened under Bill Barr and his DOJ. That in itself makes all this sound like nonsense. That fact isn't getting reported by the media. 2.) The investigators wanted to be super aggressive. It seemed as if they wanted the investigation to reach Joe Biden. One of them even said they thought one thing could get Biden. They wanted to be more aggressive than Bill Barr's DOJ. As if Bill Barr's DOJ wasn't slanted already. 3.) The stuff they complained they weren't allowed to do seems silly. -They wanted to surveil Hunter Biden(do "drive by's" by his house) while Joe Biden was the democratic Nominee. That was denied by Bill Barr's DOJ. A drive by for a tax investigation? -They also wanted to question Joe Biden's grand daughter who Hunter paid school fees for. And were denied. Seemed like they were trying to entangle the grandchildren in something. Why couldn't they just ask the school if he really paid the fees? -They also complained that Bill Barr's DOJ stopped overt investigative steps once Joe Biden became the Dem nominee. That seemed to be DOJ policy. They seemed like they were hoping Hunter Biden may lead to Joe so they wanted to vigorously pull every thread. As I said they wanted to be more aggressive than Barr's DOJ. This also seemed to be designed to inject non public investigative info about Hunter Biden into the public sphere. Even in the interview the Whistleblowers kept injecting info that seemed unnecessary. Like Hunter having prostitutes in his Hotel room. etc etc. This was a tax investigation. I'm not even sure how legally they can talk to the media about this stuff as they have been doing. I hope the DOJ is investigating these "whistleblowers". Testimony: https://waysandmeans.house.gov/smith-testimony-of-irs-employees-reveals-biden-irs-doj-interfered-in-tax-investigation-of-hunter-biden-revealing-preferential-treatment-for-wealthy-and-politically-connected/ 1 Like |

raumdeuter: I'm glad you noticed that. That in fact is not the job of the Supreme Court. But that is exactly what they have started doing. I don't want 9 unelected people appointed by life deciding policy that effects me. Their job is to decide whether Congressional laws are constitutional or interpret Congressionally passed laws and defend the Constitution. And I think Congress has to go back to the drawing board and clarify what the Supreme Court is supposed to be doing, how big it is and its ethics. Right now, they have waded into the pool of policy making. And conservatives are always the ones screaming about Textualism and strict constructionism. Who what have thought all that was a ruse to gain power. 1 Like |

Oh man, can we ban affirmative action in Nigerian universities too? I remember that my Yoruba friend who scored 248 in JAMB couldn't get into his desired course. CoolUsername: If it’s a state university then it’s normal for them to prioritize indigene’s of that state first. That’s normal and I think there’s a similar system in the US. It’s very different from race based admissions which SCOTUS just struck down though. |
