You mean he is not good defensively? Hope you know say na backup sha. And na RB he go dey play?.
to who? No place in a team is guaranteed, every player is given a chance to fight for a starter’s shirt where the best starts games

Brighton wanted Chelsea’s Conwil who played on loan with them last season but chelsea refused selling permanently to them and in De Zerbi’s list bassey is second in terms of their CB transfer targets which is the reason they are going for him

Also Brighton were interested in him after he’s stellar season in the Scottish league and Europe before he opted for Ajax

and do I seem like one who hype players unnecessarily? Bassey did enough to merit he’s move to ajax just that it didn’t work out as expected

You fail to put into consideration that it takes some players time to adapt to new environment while others adapts faster

I am a kin follower of Ajax and watch their matches via espn and I must tell you that Ajax team of last season was trash. No player was exceptional unless maybe kudus to an extend

Bassey from the games I saw him play for Ajax wasn’t as bad as the Dutch media painted him maybe because of the price they bought him. I believe u saw him against Liverpool and Napoli in the ucl

Also for De Zerbi to go for him it implies that he has potentials that still need to be worked on

Technique or whatsoever they are players that hv it in abundant as hyped here but still languishing in lower tier clubs with escape route very slim

As for Okoye he was among the top 5 goalies in the Dutch league for 2 seasons before he got signed by Watford. He earned he’s move to England. Okoye didn’t earn the move because of his Caucasian mother but because he worked and earned it

So carry your bias mentality shift
For over 4 generations, Ajax have seen some of the finest footballers in the world, it's insane to think they have a particular bias against Bassey, a player they had high hopes for when he first arrived.

Even in chaos, good players still standout. For instance, You can't look at Chelsea's last season amist the upheavel and say Thiago Silva, Reece James, Chilwel, kovacic etc are all bad players.

For your information, Ajax problem last season wasn't goal scoring, only 1 team outscored them all season.
They had a very unstable defence partly due to Bassey's lack of position awareness, he lost his place at the end. A point Bassey himself agreed to when he said he was learning from Timber and Alvarez sitting on the bench(screenshot).

Secondly, his ability on the ball is comical. Simply not Ajax standard to put it mildly. His level is the Scottish league, harsh truth.
His profile being a left footed CB (a rarity) appeals to scouts. He wouldn't get this far if he was right footed. He will be exposed at Brighton.

Swear to God that you watched one Ajax game this past season? Did you watch them against Liverpool? Did you know Bassey got more than 10 match of the man award this past season?
I watched all Ajax game that Bassey started. Timber was more at fault for goals conceded by Ajax than Bassey but the fans always turn on him cos they spent 28 million on him., therefore they expect him to stop all the balls from going in which is not humanly possible. Yes, he do make mistake sometimes but who doesn't.
The Ajax team Bassey met was in disarray. The midfielders were some of the worst set of players in Ajax history. Bobbery, Tadic and this Tottenham guy were also struggling in attack. It got to a time that the coach had to play Kudus their best midfileder as a 9. Whenever Kudus start in midfield Bassey plays better cos Kudus can hold the ball and carry it forward.

Ask yourself why Brighton wants both Kudus and Bassey together?
Watch ball and stop displaying your silly ignorance here!

You watch every Ajax game and you don't know Bassey isn't so good in possession and playing out from the back, a system Ajax is renouned for?
Did you watch Vermalean and Vertogen back in Ajax to understand the football IQ Ajax required from their CB?
Even for the Super Eagles, he struggled to do the basics against Ghana. At a point he couldn't even trap the ball, he was promptly yanked off. People like you blamed the pitch and weather(night game). A country like Nigeria cannot have a defender at Ajax and he's not the first name on the team sheet. But what do we have?

He wasn't good yet Ajax paid 28 million for him. Not good but Brighton is ready to pay 20m for him? How much do your entire live worth? lol!
Who were the midfielders when those guys were playing for Ajax? Did you read at all? A defender can only be good in possession if the midfielders make themselves available for the ball. After putting him on the bench was Ajax better? Read and stop your silly blllababuuluu!

If not personal bias, who would look at Bassey and think he's decent?

Very simple the person who wants to pay £30 Million for him.

But Awaziem and Omeruo playing in dead Segunda division and obscurity of Croatia are great.

Change Nigeria football?the issue with Nigeria football are many and hope the system will not consumes the club.

The system is damn too corrupted that people with good intentions always find it difficult to cope.I saw people celebrating Kanu appointment as Enyimba chairman but can Kanu played the politics of Emeka Anyasi

Players and valuation these are chalk and cheese. We've seen players valued at 100M not worth anyway near it.
I guarantee you, Brighton are looking at Bassey's profile and not performance. This was the exact Reson MJ wasn't a first draft NBA pick. You claim to be a scout so you should understand what I'm saying.

Awaziem and Omeruo aren't in this discussion. They have their career trajectory and as native Africans, they have done relatively well for themselves. They have both been in the books of Porto and Chelsea. Played at the highest level in Spain and France. I don't really know what you have against them.

Meanwhile, I agree with Barryseal's assessment that Calvin Bassey is a poor defender.

In eagles I will pick Segunda Omeruo and Croatia Awaziem over Calvin Bassey.

I don't think Bassey is as bad as some people here are insinuating. Are there areas of his game he can improve on yes of course, but I can't be too harsh on a young player who a year ago shown brightly in the Europa League final one of the highest showcases of European club football after UCL.

We sha saw how Ajax 'improved' after benching Calvin won't say much than that.

First of the inclusion was a retort to those who felt particularly in comparison to Awaziem and Omeruo that Bassey is not good enough.

Awaziem and Omeruo have not done well remove the proviso African. Omeruo never played for Chelsea and Awaziem spent more time in the B team. That says a lot about their supposed quality.

I can't remove the African proviso. The reality of the quota tarrif on non EU players will always be a bias against Africans.
South Americans usually have 2 passports, they get signed up and intigrated seemlessly. You can play the ostrich if you want but that won't negate the truth.
