Yes i am. I have been a professional driver once upon a time before. Interstate cargo and passenger delivery. I worked as a driver with a company for 5 complete years hauling goods and people all over the southern part of Nigeria. At that time there was nothing like ehailing.

I am now professionally into logistics but there is nothing I haven't experienced concerning driving as a business.

So why do you think I'm always on this thread? Maybe it's because I still drive once in a while or maybe I have a vehicle given to someone to drive on my behalf.

You can pick any one you feel would sound better as my answer wink

Ode, are you a driver was what he asked you. You dey shalaye wetin no dey related.

Wetin concern logistics with Uber/bolt wey you dey come here do cho cho cho.

Why aren't you engaging me with your usual monika anymore? Just because I dropped only your first name and a few of your other monikers here you've become afraid and paranoid of mentioning me because you are scared of my going to the scam thread to reveal your complete identity abi?

I laughed when i saw the way you quickly denied your name to pearl that day grin

My brother, this shalaye is not necessary. All the examples you gave, I didn't see a single driver there. If you are truly proud of driving, wish and pray it for your child(ren). It's that simple

Unemployment rate in 🇳🇬 today is > 40%. In a country where we have more churches than industries, why won't people take up taxi driving? Why do we like to chastise people making a honest living? People come from different class/level and different schools of thought.

Some are into Uber job because life happened to them, not by choice maybe they are just doing it just to sustain themselves for a while and also making their plan to move forward. Such people have never dream of becoming Uber driver for once. This class of people will never be proud to be called Uber drivers because is not their calling or what they wanted to be.

While some people start from the bottom pit and climb up to be Uber drivers, to them this is the height of success because they can solve their immediate and basic needs, after all, they have nothing to lose they have come a long way to reach Uber driving status. Such class of people no matter how you try to convince them that the job is not paying or they should plan for exit, they won't heed to your advice, their mind is already comfortable with the driving job.

All of you here know where you belong to, either class A or B.

In a nutshell, a bank manager that lost his job to join Uber driving, his mind will never be at ease with the job he will look for alternatives. While an Agbero/conductor that joined Uber driving will always see it as an eldorado or job that is full of milk and honey.

Know your level and choose what works for you!!

You're actually not getting my point and you're not realistic! I guess you just want accolades here!

I am not looking down on myself. As a matter of fact, I am a graduate with professional certifications and vast experience in my field.

In as much as there is dignity in every labour, there are still some hustle you can't boldly say openly at a certain gathering or function. There are still some hustle you can't be proud to say at a particular function and one of them is a driver!

If you lie to yourself about the stigmatisation of this hustle, then jokes on you!

This is Nigeria. We look down so much on some hustle. It is not like that abroad. People respect uber drivers abroad. Nigerians treat drivers like piece of sh1t. I once sat with a friend who brought his lecturer friend along. She's a female lecturer at unilag. We talked for long. She introduced herself and when she asked what I do, I told her I'm an uber driver......she went; oops...sorry, I shouldn't have asked! I said why? She said; never mind! Then I went as far as telling her my degree, prof qualification, experience and the MNC's I had worked with. I am explaining this because there are calibres of people you would sit with, you won't be able to say you're doing uber cos they will look down on you. It might even spoil things or deter opportunities you might get. I'd rather tell you my field(not uber) and then crown it with; "I'm inbetween jobs at the moment"

Ahhhhhh, my oga, no be so I mean am oooh. shocked

I totally agree to your submission. If you’ve found the story of elupee fixing transmission and one PDP guy was insulting him. That’s the society we’ve found ourselves. Where parents take their children to special center. Parents help their children as accomplice in yahoo. You spend money today and no one will ask where you get the money from, but ask if you question poverty days. I have been sitting on this morally inclined lifestyle and I will tell you it is not easy. The decay in our society is something else. Who you know? Where you live? What kind of car you drive nd phone you use? Even our pastors have dilute the words to the level motivational speakers. They no longer preach about heaven, but wordly things. Barely anyone is left out of this mentality boss and won’t blame them. Value truly matters in life.

Laugh 😂 won injure me. I’ll always help my oga

Uber/Bolt is different from whatever you may have been through. Yesterday I was coming to Lagos from Asaba on bus since I don’t have money for flight. Took Delta line. Nigga was just stopping anyhow doing his own runs, you go like talk? From the manager to the driver are kolo mental. Try that on Bolt or uber, if away is not your name.

Bus that used to be 8k is not 15/18k… you check the difference and see what those guys are making. They are they real new oil marketers in town.

Never compare ehailling with whatever you may have been thro. You don’t have knowledge of how it works out here.

So in essence your point is that ehailing is more tedious, less profitable and riskier than interstate driving?

because he always want me to leave the shore of this country.
His daughter gained admission to study out there for 2 years. And he told me you are dropping her at the airport as an undergraduate, you may be the one to go pick her as a graduate. Think about it. Jesu! Omo the alarm still deh ring in my head. As much as I have been working for him for 2 years and he is always in and out of the country at 60. He obviously know what he is telling me. We sit and chat. He still called me yesterday. On Friday we are on the phone for almost an hour. People that hangs around you see the potential in you that you can’t even see.

My broda Jappa Jappa Jappaaaaaa
Any graduate still driving Uber hoping to get better job, pls I beg you any way you wan do am jappa jobs dey abroad for you.
They are shooting abroad,
Racism full abroad,
u will live like a 2nd class citizen abroad … for Nigeria na 1st class citizen u dey live

Time is ticking, age dey go, hustling strength dey reduce gradually.
I know a boy from very poor background, house no good at all , type of family - “can anything good come out of dis family.”
Heard d guy dey UK last month I wan craze
he has changed my perspective about jappa n hustling ?
WHY ?
If that guy can Jappa then NOBODY get excuse again, no excuse at all, though I don’t know how he did until I get in touch. but na big inspiration cos I know him.

I’ve met different peeps here with different stories & without iwe d worst of them is still better than any young man earning less than 500k in Lagos in dis Tinubu regime.

This makes a lot of sense. Needless arguing with those who took Uber as a career. To them is a step up but not to everyone. You summed it.up quite nicely.
