Good day, all. I am typing this with a lot of frustration and anger.

I was among the volunteers asked by this NGO (name withheld ) to serve as an ENUMERATOR. They told me it was a paid volunteer. We were trained in data collection using ODK and Kobotoolbox.

As a student, I had planned how I will use this stipend of 20k to provide my basic needs in school because I have no one sponsoring me.

My section does go out to collate these data on Fridays and Saturdays. Now to the issue!

Just yesterday made it a month and I was expecting the money to get foodstuffs and save like 5k for my next school fees. The program director for North Central told me that I am not entitled to a stipend because the role I am working on is just volunteering and not paid.

I was shocked because when I was told and made to sign a term of agreement it was clearly stated that I will receive a 20k monthly stipend. I then asked them to show me the document and I was surprised to see the term of the agreement was uttered.

What should I do nairalanders to get my money or should I continue without pay to get experience as an enumerator for the outside world?

Please Nlfpmod help me get a wider view. I am in a state of dilemma.

I won't be surprised the money for the position is like #70k-100k but somebody is greedy.

Lol, that's NGO for you, their corruption pass politicians own, I swear, I had the opportunity to work with LIHOC a body under USAID and WORLD BANK, omo, they are still owning for 3months since 2014, when it's time to be paid salary, they would make us sign documents of 35k as salary, yet, them go pay us 7k, see you, NGO people are as corrupt as the devil himself. Our feeding then was 5k per head, yet, them go forge everybody signature to sign 1,500naira, only God can judge those people 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

THE WHITE BIRD

Picture yourself as a beautiful white bird. Feel that you are flying high up in a cloudless sky.
Imagine that you are gently flapping your wings and flying higher and higher until the earth fades
from your sight.
Now try gliding. Feel that you are floating on the air currents high above this world. Imagine
yourself soaring and then swooping down. Feel the perfect freedom of unobstructed flight. You
are flying alone high up in the sky. You have flown beyond all of your problems, worries, and
difficulties.
Fly higher, beyond the sky into space. Fly between the stars and planets. Glide beyond all of
the distant heavens until you have flown beyond time and space. Continue flying into worlds
unknown.
Feel that you are flying now into other dimensions. You are passing through dimension after
dimension. Each dimension is a different reality and you have glimpses of that reality as you pass
through it. Feel that you are flying through hundreds of different dimensions each minute.
As you fly through each dimension, notice your bird body changing. It will assume a different
shape in each dimension. Then, after flying through all of existence, return to this world. Fly high
up in the sky and then swoop down to your home.
Fly back into your room and observe your body as it relaxes. Now re-enter your body. As you
do, feel that you are bringing back with you a totally new perspective on existence. All of the
freedom and vision you gained from your flight will stay with you now. You have experienced
perfect freedom in flight. Your flying has totally relaxed and refreshed-you.

Na so country hard reach?

Reach out to anyone there who can assist you with cash or allowance and then when it's time to pay back , tell them you both didn't sign any documents to that effect.Case closed

Some NGO's aren't transparent. If it is clearly stated in document u r entitled to the amount then report NGO to human organization.

Next time you sign a document always make sure you have a copy of the document. If you do have a copy of the document, then make it known to them. They are under obligation to pay you except they have a clause that allows them to avoid paying you.

The documents you signed, did you take a snap of it?
If you do, show them, if they don't bulge. Write the Ministry or agencies involved. Tag them on Twitter. We go drag them tire.

Bro, we need to hear from both sides to know who's telling the truth. You must have signed the documents without reading the terms & condition.

Good thinking

Again, did he do his tasks as planned?

Since it is a month, does it mean without the volunteering work, you won't be able to buy foodstuffs for the month and save 5k for school fees?

The 2 sides of the story is very important here
Re: Is It Possible To Get My Money Back? by Alexxx2000: 3:17pm On Jul 12, 2023
This one was full of verbal allowances but the pay was contracted. I was so surprised and I cried truth be told.

[quotete author=kemiomobomi post=124374680]

I read and fully understood, I worked for a NGO for a long time, I know as e dey go.

During mobilization for volunteers, promises would be made but ....
the Project Manager can siphon money
the Oga can say otherwise
the Donors can say otherwise

If there is not written agreement forget it, you are just a Volunteer[/quote]

Re: Is It Possible To Get My Money Back? by Alexxx2000: 3:28pm On Jul 12, 2023
I knew it was stipend. I prepared for it and we were 9. The whole of us didn't receive anything. I was the only student among them.

derico:
NGOs don't pay Salary.

It's a volunteer job...payment is usually not binding.
Whatever allowance they claim they'll give you, they still aren't bound by law to pay you that amount.

Some Nigerians are really a disgrace, they bring in scam in everything they do.

On Saturday I bought some items from Abuja on jiji,I negotiated a certain amount with the driver for wa bill. I was called from peace park,on getting there to collect the items, the amount changed.

The store keeper told me that was the amount the driver asked him to collect. I called the driver he is not taking my calls. I later found out it was even a different driver that brought the items.

What played out was that the driver after negotiating with me, took his own cut and zoomed off.

They will make you to start having trust issues, even when you want to buy ordinary pepper. We really need to change our attitude and perspective in life.

Hmm, you are even lucky that you got what you ordered for, my friend got scammed on the same site
