And in the last election , he once again completely fked over the party. Back stabbing wike led to g5. I must run led to Peter obi splitting from the party.
Just an aloof politician with no strategy, wasting everyone's time including his.

Nobody handed the ticket over to him last time though, he won the ticket fair and square tongue

As long as pdp is a back for ground party Atiku will continue to win the primaries. You no see the guy wike caught in pH with those dollars?

A cone would have defeated Tinubu if PDP fielded it. They only needed to be united. Tinubu won as a result of the division in PDP. This is an undeniable fact.

A Northern cone would have defeated Tinubu. Not sure about a southern cone.

The dynamics of every election change according to the persons running. PDP zoning to a Southerner again might have essentially made the party become a Southern party, and one can't say how the North would have reacted to that, but suggesting Wike would win a national election sounds very very funny sha.

What options do they have if both leading parties had presented a Southern candidate?

A cone would have won the election if PDP was united. Wike is an overkill.

South or North, I don't see how Tinubu would have won that election. The division in the PDP played right into his hands.

You are not answering the question. I know an Atiku/Peter Obi partnership would have defeated Tinubu but Atiku without Peter Obi could not, as we saw. My question to you is, do you really believe Nyesom Wike on a ticket would have defeated Tinubu? grin

Man all those wikes talk would have been on repeat

Christian state, mosque demolition, ipob.

It would have been a gift, though I cannot predict how the polity would have responded

Your fanboyism for Wike na Gear 10 e reach.

PDP lost because they did not have Peter Obi. It is not about their unpopular party and definitely not about having a northern candidate.

Wike won't win a fairly contested election against Amaechi let alone Tinubu. grin

Don't mind @Itsrm. Wike has not won any elections in his life due to his popularity. Wike is Mr. Iron Bender and Mr. Point and Kill. That is how he took over Rivers.

So you think it was money that Wike could not pay that made Tambuwal tell his delegates to vote Atiku and not Wike?

Tambuwal went with who he thought stood a realistic chance of winning. It is that simple.

People overanalyze politics in Nigeria.

Now I know you're just playing around.

Without Wike, Amaechi would never have been governor. Amaechi himself said that after God, it was Wike who made his victory possible.

Wike defeated his candidate when he was a sitting governor in 2015 and has been flogging him since then.

Simple as that. People over-estimate the role of money politics in Nigeria. Sure money matters, but winning elections goes beyond having money to throw around.

Made his victory possible the very same way he made his own victories possible. Brute force.

People were maimed, beheaded, shot at, bribed. That is the Wike way. He has never been that popular. That is why he lost the primaries.

The Christian state thing would have polarized the north

The dealing with ipob would have polarized the SE

These are matters that both regions carry for head.

I might not piss on the popularity of Wike in Rivers, but nationally, I don't think he stands any chance. Even South-South sef, men go run circles round am.

Wike stood a very realistic chance in the primaries sha, and was well on his way to winning if not for Tambuwal. He had the money bit covered and had in the years leading up to the primaries built real influence.

He did not. That is why he lost. Anyone can look really popular before the actual voting for e.g. Yemi Osinbajo. If the people who should have voted for you could easily be swayed against you, maybe it is because they know you stand no chance in the grand scheme.

Post the result of the primaries he lost.

2018 PDP primaries- Atiku 48% of total votes
Tambuwal 21% of total votes

2022 APC primaries- Tinubu 60% of votes
Amaechi - 15% of votes.

2022 PDP Primaries- Atiku 49% of total votes
WIke- 31% of total votes.

So much for an unpopular candidate. cheesy

We are saying the same thing with regards to wike. As you said the man carried the party for the eight years that Atiku sat away in Dubai.

He was a party man to the core, unlike Atiku who is anywhere potential nomination face. And in the moment of truth the entire party from tambuwal down betrayed the guy.

I personally think the whole thing could have been handled better from the beginning. Because imho wike is a radioactive candidate.

Rivers is a Christian state, the celebrated crackdown on ipob, the alleged mosque demolition, and all this in the social media era and still very fresh in people's minds - wike no be presidential material.

But they could have done better

But Las Las pdp is like a woman going back to an unfaithful and largely unavailable boyfriend.

So increase in price of fuel is bad, but increase in fees of Unity Schools from 45k to 100k at this very difficult time is good. Difficult situation the current Government put the people into, yet they couldn't wait for the hardship to ease off small before adding increase in fees. Pdp presidency south -13 years.
Pdp presidency north- 3 years.
If a southerner had won the pdp ticket, the northern pdp would have felt aggrieved and rightly so.
I donā€™t even see Atiku winning the ticket as a problem for equity sake.
But once Peter obi left, tinubu already won before the first ballot was cast.
I just hope lessons has been Learnt and the opposition will learn to work together in the future.
Apc is a formidable party despite the shegey they have wrought and opposition can not afford to divide itself.

Americaā€™s states and local governments spend at least $115 billion/year to fund their local police forces, who protect a population that is twice that of Nigeria..Meanwhile the NPF barely gets a Trillion Naira

Wike spent much more than Atiku and still lost. That is the conclusive proof of his unpopularity. People betrayed him because they did not see the winnability of the man let us call a spade a spade and not a massive spoon.

You are making it look like Wike is Peter Obi and he is not. He weaponized the resources of River's state to gain traction but it did not translate to the political voter let alone the average one. Wike was rejected at the primaries where his true value was weighted; he stood ZERO chance infront of Nigerians. If he does not get a ministerial portfolio in the Tinubu administration he will become insignificant in the next 2 or 3 years like Odili.

This is just not true. Before the election the pages of this thread moved mainly because of the unending debates between those who felt that Obi running would kill Atikuā€™s chances (handing victory to Tinubu) and those who felt Obi would win outright.

Very few people rated Kwankwaso above the 3 major protagonists.
