Ministerial Nominees: Senators Disagree On Mode Of Screening by dre11(m): 5:10am On Jul 30, 2023

Ahead of tomorrow’s commencement of the screening of the 28 ministerial nominees, senators have disagreed sharply on the screening processes.

While the Senate Majority Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele and Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Yemi Adaramodu, are saying that the screening of the nominees would be thorough as there would be “no take a bow and go” as was obtainable in the past, the former Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe, disagreed, saying that nothing new would happen.

Speaking with Sunday Vanguard, Abaribe said: “The screening of the ministerial nominees will not be different. Nothing has changed to give any signal of a change in methodology.”

Another Senator who spoke on the condition of anonymity, agreed with Abaribe, saying that with the composition in the first place where former governors, former senators and ex-members of the House of Representatives are dominating the list, it would be more of a ‘take a bow and go’ show.

Recall that the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio had on Thursday read out the 28 ministerial nominees sent by President Bola Tinubu for screening.

Following the unveiling of the nominees, Adaramodu, while addressing Journalists on Thursday boasted that the senators would be thorough during the screening as they would dwell on experience, character, personality, and background, among others, just as there will be no take a bow and go except when there are no questions.

On the usual take a bow which has become a norm for former senators, the Senate Spokesperson said: “It is a norm and not an anathema. Even if you came to National Assembly to submit a paper, you must take a bow. So the issue of taking a bow is not an anathema, it is a tradition and not a slang for complacency. It does not mean you cannot be held accountable. It is just a norm.”

Corroborating Adaramodu, Bamidele reiterated that the Senate would be thorough with the screening to ascertain their competencies and capabilities to serve Nigeria.

“Let me assure Nigerians that there won’t be any bow and go during the screening except for those who had been members of the National Assembly and whom we knew have the wherewithal to give Nigerians qualitative leadership.”

What’s the obsession of the opposition and majorly people from the south east with Rivers state affairs? In 2015, you made a lot of noise about Rotimi Amaechi and why he must be screened out. Still, common sense prevailed and he served gloriously as a minister for almost 8 years.

We are now in 2023 and you’ve all moved to making noise about Wike and shouting that he should not be confirmed. Do you have the numbers to stop him? Why should one of the best performing governors in the last 8 years he screened out? Is it by force to support Peter Obi Pandora the loser? Must every Rivers state governor support whoever you guys are to supporting?

Wike will be screened and confirmed. He will serve as a federal minister for 4 years and move the entire PDP structure in Rivers state to APC. Even if you cry from now till the next 30 years, APC will still win Rivers State again in 2027.

This post is a pointless gibberish...

A better post would have been about how PDP senators are currently licking honey and flexing their vocal cords to be able to shout the loudest NAAAYYYYYYY when Wike takes the stand! grin grin cheesy cheesy

I look forward to Wike's screening and I've ordered a bag of popcorn already grin cool

What's tha business?

For once, I quite agree with you.

If the PDP does not put their house in order and swiftly too, Nyesom Wike is going to be the tarot that collapses the pack of cards. With his inevitable move to the APC, and considering the amount of human resources he has as followership, he might just as well empty the PDP house in Rivers and that would be the deft move that delivers Rivers to APC in 2027.

As usual. I just knew it will be someone from that part of the country. They're the ones always undermining all the efforts to get things right, to forge ahead, but will always wail the most how the country is not working.
They cried about Muslim Muslim ticket but when it was time to create a balance, to support their Christian brother for the senate seat, their leaders instead supported another Northern Muslim.
The moribund centralised system of government we're practicing today was instituted by their son many years ago, but today they will cry about marginalisation and being denied the presidency. What about the secession clause that leaders of other parts of the country agreed to but that their son declined because he had the ambition to rule the country, thereby forcing us all in this contraption? But today the sons and grandsons are blaming other Nigerians for "not allowing them to go."
You lots can continue to play the ostrich. I just hope the naive ones whom you always blackmail/manipulate with marginalisation rhetoric are taking notes.

This National Assembly screening of ministerial nominees is just a text-book exercise. There's arguably never been a disqualification of a nominee for as long as I can remember, and there isn't likely to be now.

The nominees may as well just move into their respective offices once the Presidency confirms their nominations to Nigerians. This exercise has always been a total futility.
