If you are in Nigeria, no matter the level of education you have attained, LEARN A SKILL.

Even if you have PHD in aeronautical engineering, just a learn a skill as a side hustle plan, it pays!!

IT skills, Carpentry, Fashion Design, pedicure and manicure, Barbing, Auto Electrical skills, Graphics Design, Photograhy and Videography, DJ/VJ skills, Brokership/Agency, even Omonile land selling skills, etc...

It comes handy when collar jobs fails.

Leave God and His mention out of this for Pete's sake. Stop using God's mention to score cheap likes on topics that have absolutely nothing to do with God. Stop using God's mention as excuse to forego commonsense in your daily lives. undecided

Most Nigerians pretend to know God yet look around and see how truly vile they and their children continue to turn out. Does that scream care of God to you? Again, leave God's mention alone and consider commonsense first. undecided

Truth is the "common sense" that works for A may not work for B because of their different God designed dispositions/personalities/destinies.
This is why you must know how to hear God for yourself.

Parents think that white collar jobs are the saving grace
Parents instead should prioritize skill learning acquisitions to be able to compliment and build an individual

There was a generation when while collar jobs were truly the saving grace.
Today the reverse is almost the case.

This is why God's counsel is needed for the season.

Learning to hear God for yourself.
The first thing is to acknowledge that Life is both Natural and Spiritual.
The Spiritual being what controls/determines the outcomes of the natural/physical.

Once you understand this, you will seek to understand the Spiritual.

Some go to dark powers.
Some go to various religions.
I encountered the LORD of the Spirit in Jesus Christ.
And by His Holy spirit and Word, I am being led through life.

This is the heritage of all who give their lives to Jesus Christ, put their Trust in Him and accept Him as their LORD and Savior.

God's Grace multiplied to you and us all.

Don't know what cool aid/zobo y'all have been drinking lately but if you are fortunate enough to finance your child through 4-6 years of university, you do not owe that child anything else career wise.

All that talk about investment, art etc, should be for you! Only when you're okay currently and future wise should you even consider worrying about the career of a university graduate. You want your child to be independent, you want him or her to be able to survive under any condition. These kids nowadays get chewed and spat out by the harsh realities of society nowadays because they've not been allowed the freedom and autonomy to grow independently!

There's no f*cking reason, a twenty something year old graduate is still depending on mama or papa for feeding.....Makes no damn sense!

Yet, the same Solomon says, "Give portions to seven, yes to eight, for you do not know what disaster may come upon the land." Ecclesiastes 11:1

Ecclesiastes is a very profound book.
You have to know the context around which it was written to appreciate it and not use it to your own destruction.

What you've said is the truth and I have not said any thing contrary.

I simply said the primary thing is to know God and how he speaks to you. Then He will deliver you from every unforseen disaster either by averting it from coming near you, or granting you the strength needed to go through and overcome the disaster as Job experienced this test as we all do maybe not to the same degree.

Life is too evil and unpredictable to be ignorant of God deprive yourself of His Guidance, Protection and Fatherhood.

Going to school only isn't education, everyone in my family can do a minimum of two handwork asides having certificates because my mum provided the materials and allowed us learn while playing around these things.

If you don't get a white collar job, you can still earn doing what you know.

Wrong! Jesus Christ never said He is God's Wisdom aka Commonsense. Rather He said He is the Truth of God implying they wisdom exists aside of Truth. undecided

Truth is not commonsense but rather God's Law which was given to a select people whereas commonsense exists for all of mankind. undecided

Voice of god or any goddess is the worst unreliable thing to listen to

It's better to watch out for the kid if there is anything they have flare for (extra curricular or not) then you support them to explore it

Then most importantly let them mostly decide their path, expose them to different career counselling and option but final decision must be theirs to make without pressure from anybody
There are lots of kids/teens and even adults with talent but couldn't harness it due to finances. I had a younger brother who's extremely good in football. He has gone to different competition but couldn't make it. He has the passion. He's very good at it. We've heard series of advice and suggestions but all still boils down on finance.

I think being poor has a lots of disadvantage towards one success. I wouldn't blame parents sending their wards to school though. At least that's the only thing they could offer them

Some had relocated to saner climes with their first degree through scholarship. Some are also lucky to get a decent job in Nigeria. Although majority with their degree in Nigeria find it difficult to breakthrough. Nonetheless, i wouldn't discourage any parents from sending their wards to school if that's the only thing they could offer

Talent without financial back-up is somewhat next to nothing in Nigeria.

it is very much possible @bolded

Don't use your own situation/circumstance as a norms or general standard.

In Nigeria today, it is very much possible for graduates to depends on their parents in many ways. Someone who got admission immediately after secondary school or someone who was working after secondary school to support his/her parents for his/her education. There was no time to learn skills. I do not mean digital skills.

After school and service, you and i know majority of Nigerian graduates do not get job after school. It is not new to us anymore. Some of these graduates ended up with teaching job with paltry pay just to keep soul and body together. Some ended up learning one skills or the other (fashion design, plumbing, welding et al. They obviously depends on their parents/guidian during these period.

If you can comfortably assume you see no reason why graduates should depends on their parents after school. What if someone said he/she see no reason why a reasonable person will go through school without coming out with at least strong 2.1 or first-class in a course he/she spent at least 4 years? What would you have to say to such person? I believe that person has reason for saying that just as you

We should not blame the parents for educating and teaching their children good morals.

The problem is the bad system where elections are rigged, politicians loot and embezzle without flinching, ...

If a person wearing a clean white sparkling shirt dives into a dirty muddy swimming pool what do you think will happen to the shirt,?

Unless op want these parents to start teaching their children yahoo yahoo, kidnapping, arm robbery, terrorism, fraud, Looting and embezzlement.
We know the system is corrupt and bad, that is more reason we should find the time to stay with them and inculcate moral standard into them, many go to church and mosque but pastors and Alfas will only preach prosperity and importance of money to believers, no need to be morally just afterall money answers all things. WE ALL NEED TO STAND FOR OUR MORAL VALUE.

All you've written are nothing but excuses! Go back and read my comment, I said the parents sponsored the kid through university, this means they are obviously not poor to the point that they need that kid to help out in providing income for the family. I'm going to say it again, if a parent can sponsor the child throughout his or her university education, there's no reason why such a child would still need to depend on the parent for survival after graduating.

Yes jobs no dey, yes the country hard but if these kids are still liabilities before and after university then wahala dey! University is more than just education, it's meant to teach young ones on how to be adults, how to network, how to relate with people from all over! If in 4-6 years you've never made a kobo by yourself while studying at a Nigerian university then you've learnt NOTHING!

Finally, your point about 2.1 or first class is also invalid. Yes there's no excuse for not being able to achieve such, failure to do so is nobody's fault but your OWN! It's called ACCOUNTABILITY! I graduated with a 2.2 and if I'm honest with myself, it was my fault, I chose the school, I chose the course and I chose social life over being a nerd....It is what it is!

How many parents in Nigeria can comfortably see their wards through school without them contributing in one way or the other? Very few parents are in that category. Most of these lads chose cyber fraud as sustainance in school and after school. Yes i understand your point though. A child who lack nothing. Everything is being provided for him/her. I believe such a person should be able to think of what to do if not for anything, at least to relieve his/her parents from financial burden and perhaps allow them focus on his/her younger siblings. I get your point.

But you know there are students who singlehandedly sponsored themselves through school, had social life in school and still graduate top of their class? How will you feel if those people in that category also said they see no reason why someone would go through the four walls of university without coming out with at least 2.1? You called that personal decision or accountability but to them they somewhat see it as failure. To them anything less than 2.1 is nothing but failure. Sorry to say.

Besides, most of these guys don't even depends on their parents. They're mostly into cyber fraud and some other illegal means of making money. The ones who do not involve in fraudulent act depends on their parents which obviously is wrong.

All I'm saying is if you are lucky enough to have parents that sponsored you throughout university study, there's no excuse to still be depending on them after NYSC. Even if job no dey, the university experience should have taught you how to be resourceful! Furthermore, for students like that there should be no excuse not to get 2.1 or better!

Now, if the student had to struggle with finances by working, shouldn't such a student be more motivated than those who had it easy? I know for sure the most brilliant students from my set were those of very poor backgrounds. In fact one of the poorest from my set made a living selling handouts and conducting tutorials. Such a student after graduation would have no problem being resourceful even if job no dey because the entrepreneurial spirit was already activated!

Parents should have laissez faire authority upon their children choice of career and welfare. Too much pampering of their children, too much welfarist provision of their needs and wants. The parents should use moral suasion in directing them to their career paths.

You were making point in your first paragraph but then derailed into a low thought process just like every other Nigerian.

You only identified a problem but your solution still rely heavily on parents to keep providing rather than looking beyond academic success and dig deeper into children's talent that can be harnessed for a brighter future.

There are footballers, wrestlers, programmers, musicians, actors, etc. Most of these careers are learnt outside the classroom.

Don't mind him, this is the same way society mount pressure on people. The same greedy mentality that is keeping black societies in perpetual wide spread poverty. The funniest part is that, majority of these people will end up stealing, killing, scaming and many dubious ways to achieve this. The so called leaders too will loot off public fund that is meant for development of their people just to accumulate wealth for their unborn generations.

Imagine this one advising people to keep accumulating properties , so that their children won't suffer. Why can't you just train your children and pray to God to give them wisdom to stand on their own instead of accumulating already scarce resources at the detriment of others. You plan for your old age by investing in money making ventures, be it real estate or trading and not necessarily to accumulating wealth for children who are suppose to work for theirs too.
