customstreet:Thanks so much for this heads up. God bless you. I've also been of opinion that Dangsugar will benefit much more in this merger. I'd expected the merger to favour Dangsugar more. How can NASCON be the one giving direction to the merger? Doesn't sound fair on Dangsugar shareholders in my opinion. Las las, we will know the real deal when official mail on merger arrangement is out. |

yMcy56:Of course, common sense has it that it's very wrong for NASCON with less than N100 billion capitalization and less than 3 billion outstanding shares to lead Dangsugar that's flying with almost N500 billion cap. and more than 10 billion O.S 2 Likes |

Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by yMcy56: 8:35pm On Aug 15, 2023 |
Agbalowomeri:I disagree ... Re-introducing subsidy will serve as a palliative for the masses instead of giving households cash, the cash which will eventually end up in the pockets of few. There's the need to urgently do something to alleviate people's sufferings. Kenyan President was said to have done this recently as well.....and his people were relieved. Though the critics and oppositions will talk, but nevertheless, they'll still come around to appreciate it later. Fuel price, diesel, gas can't continue to be skyrocketing like this. People are going thru a lot. Many have abandoned cars and are trecking/entering public transport at double the previous fares, food items gone up, school fees gone up, salaries/wages can't take care of anything again, etc. It can't just continue like this o. https://nairametrics.com/2023/08/15/presidency-announces-no-hike-in-petroleum-product-prices-fuel-subsidy-may-return/ https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.theeastafrican.co.ke/tea/business/ruto-reinstates-fuel-subsidies-in-u-turn-4336088%3fview=htmlamp 3 Likes |

Agbalowomeri:The argument is that : Now that the govt has discovered some of the loopholes thru which previous subsidies were mismanaged, that a control measure can be put in place to block it. The proposed return is still temporary..... One of the mistakes made was to remove the subsidy outrightly without carrying out thorough investigation into why it wasn't effective during the last admin. The decision was too hasty. Not like anyone is saying it shouldn't be removed but it wasn't well thought out initially. Even the big boys are not excluded: https://www.nairaland.com/7804467/shell-petroleum-workers-protest-over * Make una no vex, I go carry further posts go politics section. 2 Likes |

Agbalowomeri:I beg to disagree though. The outright removal of subsidy was a big mistake from the present government. The government was just too much in a haste and messed it up. Subsidy removal without local refining to reduce the cost of AGO and PMS is a blunder. The presidency should have partnered with Dangote Refinery to resolve the issue before taking that decision. Think of the colossal loss caused by the high cost of diesel on manufacturers coupled with the foreign exchange floatation, viz-a-viz the high cost of transportation caused by removal of subsidy on PMS on the cost of living of the people. If the government is not careful in reducing the effect of subsidy on the populace, then they are sitting on a time bomb. Remember what sparked and started the arab spring; Mohammed Bouazizi burnt himself in Tunisia and boom, all the arab nations were on rampage. Nigerians are just waiting for a spark and then...... It seems you have forgotten how the endsars movement crippled the economy. Don't ever under estimate what the people can do. |

kolaish:Not really a mistake to me... They needed to test reality.. See outcomes for themselves, both loopholes and actual price of products as someone said above.. All these while before subsidy removal, it's just projection of prices by experts in various sectors and probably over bloated payments of subsidies in some sectors..now reality has shown where it's been too much and where it's been too little. If they go back, there should be major fixes. Federal University intervention is gone with students loan in place, etc. Subsidy payment won't be that much I believe and streamlined to few essentials. Otherwise as @Agbalowomeri said.. It's finished!! 2 Likes |

yMcy56: For how long is temporary? The end of year oil price rise is coming due to high energy demand and operational cost in winter. Where are they going to get the dollar from? We can't meet OPEC quota to see dollar inflow, fx backlog on airlines and Co. I'm just observing this country from the sidelines. Oando should just come and give me Christmas bonus early please. |

yMcy56:If you read the link, the government is not trying to subside rather will remove some things that make up the final price. In addition to this they should try and make the dollars available to importers at I nd E window. And making sure the dollars is not diavated to black mark..They stabilize the dollars for real businessmen at the official channel The introduction of subsidy should not even be thought of.They should go after the ones that ripped the country from it and reinvest the money in agriculture .It is a hard way but the only way 4 Likes |
