The PUNCH reported that the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs had in July urged the Lagos State Government to officially recognise and declare August 20 as Isese Day holiday in the state. It's the idea of the Alaiyeluwas and Ifa Devotees. Now I understand why it sailed through after all these years of clamouring for Yoruba Renaissance and practicing Isese privately in most Yoruba communities within and outside Nigeria. Lagos state is a Yoruba state, Isese Day is now all Yoruba states public holiday. Check my signature for free stuffs! 117 Likes 7 Shares

Good move. This is good for Africa. If foreign religions like Islam and Christianity will have a day to celebrate their festival or celebration in Africa just to please our brothers and sisters who are interested in the white man's heaven why not African traditional religions and their practitioners our brothers and sisters who are keeping our culture and identity alive. The rubbish/ MADNESS going on in Kwara must stop. Who knows what they will ban next? Maybe they will ban the use of Yoruba language and Yoruba names. Na 21st century we dey oo. This thing should stop oo. It's their human right. We dey cry say Oyibo force their yeye language and culture on us , na him another African tribe dey do this rubbish to another African tribe? I am not a Christian I am not a Muslim I don't practice any African religion I am not Yoruba I am not Igbo But I believe what is good for the goose is good for the gander. 134 Likes 17 Shares |

Lovely, It must be the same day including Kwara We should advertise it and let foreigner come in to see how we celebrate our culture. Writers should start writing, document everything accurately and make the most of it suitable to the ears. Importantly: keep the rituals in the shrine or do it in a very neat attractive way in the public - allow people to celebrate dance and pray peacefully. 23 Likes 2 Shares |

Yoruba are on track to recovering their identity and culture This is a great way forward. I wish all tribes in Africa can make this effort. But some people don’t even have any identity anymore other than the one their colonial masters assigned to them. Only the Yorubas got to the Americas during the slave era and colonized their slave masters with their culture. Till date, the Yoruba culture is well recognized in Brazil, Cuba, North America and they even carry it on their heads. Yorubas still extend to Togo and Benin and they also carried the culture on their head I hope all other tribes can find a way to trace their roots. The documentary bigger than Africa did a good job Taylor90: You should be worried that you have no identity. Please Whatz exactly is your culture? Have you not been fully colonized and enslaved by your white masters? Do you have any identity? But Yoruba is your problem And I think your pain is that Lagos has made its statement loud and clear that it is for Yoruba. There can never be a public holiday in Lagos to celebrate Igbo culture 60 Likes 9 Shares
