You can add it to the feed you’re giving them, gradually they will adapt and you increase it quantity. Kindly still keep giving them their regular feed. Jub101: |

Good day Boss, I will be glad if anyone can share us a feed formula method. I mean what we can compound, thanks. |
Re: Diary Of A Sheep Farmer by Jub101(m): 6:17am On Aug 07, 2023 |
Liadi2:You can compound Pkc, broken maize, soya beans and wheat offal together. If you can get cassava peels too add it . Your ratio of mixture will be determined by how fast you want them to get fattened. Also add mineral premix and salt very important. 1 Like |

If you can recall I got a new stock in July which consists of 8 sheeps and 1 ram. I have lost two of the sheep’s. The first due to diarrhea which I did my very best using different antibiotics such as sulphadinidine, tetracycline, metronidazole all to no avail. The second died due to abortion which I can’t say what really triggered it. I have learnt a lot through this new stock as all my other stock which I got in May(6 of them) are still hale and hearty and one of them is even with a lamb . I will keep trying my best and know very strongly I will continue no matter what! It’s all part of the journey. 4 Likes

You can only try your best when you buy sheep’s from all these popular markets because you have no record to work with to know what conditions they might have and how best to handle it. If only sheep’s can talk 5 Likes |

I do mainly grass fed with the exception to my new stock, weak ones and pregnant and nursing ewes. Picture below is them snacking on glyricidia leaves which is very high in protein. 2 Likes

Jub101:i had a similar experience some few years ago. the feed is responsible for what is happening. where did you buy them from?. fresh grass contains high water content and disrupts the digestive system high humidity cause an increase in disease incidents 4 Likes |

Re: Diary Of A Sheep Farmer by felixzo1(m): 5:59am On Aug 28, 2023 |
Liadi2:dry grass |
Re: Diary Of A Sheep Farmer by Jub101(m): 1:48pm On Aug 29, 2023 |
felixzo1:Dry grass will work. In my own case they have to adapt to the environment conditions here because what am after is actually breeding them here in my own southern climatic conditions. So either you survive or die. |

felixzo1:Not really. I have more than 20 bought Uda on my farm and have only recorded two deaths which I can even say it’s not because of the grass. The moment they land on my farm it’s always straight to the pasture. 1 Like |

New kid 🚨. This Uda ewe is the first mother that was born on our farm. She’s way bigger than every other ewe I bought !! She was crossed with my Yankasa ram hence the color of the lamb. I am loving this journey. 1 Like

Good morning to everyone on this thread. I appreciate all the ogas for their encouragement and guidance. Please I will like to know if I can deworm a pregnant ewe ? I bought this animal from someone who claimed she's already pregnant. |

IamAsiri: If I may ask why? Please |
Re: Diary Of A Sheep Farmer by IamAsiri: 5:31pm On Sep 21, 2023 |
Matobicfarms: The drug is so strong that it may not only evict worms. It is strongly advised not to because it may or may not abort pregnancies. It may also cause congenital defects in the babies. So, it is advised to do the deworming after kidding. 1 Like |

IamAsiri: Good evening everyone. There are two ways to look at the issue. First we aren’t sure if she is pregnant or not. If the sheep is in its 4th month then you should start seeing signs of pregnancy like enlarge stomach, the breast getting bigger. |
