Kepukepu: If is closed how will plastics enter there .. the essence of closing them is make sure refuse can’t be dumped inside it … it should be desillted and closed. Simple road in Ago place way to apple junction is built with covered drains and light poles. Please let stop supporting our Government they are not working. I saw I road constructed in Akwaibom at Ikotekpene” see wide road with street light drains sealed… I wept… is not capital ooo… some people will still come at me ..If you visit places within your locality like and observe then you will know ANSG is not serious Look at NFF there is no stadium in the south east that was chosen, it should hurt us because we don’t take infrastructures seriously. Every other regions were taken the next thing we shout marginalization but the ones we can do we will not … shall we justify that by saying we don’t have money? Look at how thy laugh at us…on the media. Let’s forget about stadium… simple standard road is like rocket science… let me not talk about roundabouts. Abia has signed up SiX lanes roads in Umuahia atleast to level up the capital… south east needs to wake up… Say what is bad … is not with dirty open drains we become Taiwan of Africa. If we change the way things are done then change will be visible. They triple up money for roads construction and take their shares after the road is constructed it will be like child’s play or Golgotha and ANSG will keep quiet because they are part of the play. The least we can do is not to support this madness. A road should be wide with lights … the road constructed at Amansea is not wide, yet both sides are free… not light poles, no covered drains… Biko is a shame to US 12 Likes 2 Shares |

Armon:You Cannot close drianages when you have not solved waste management issues and your people are oroented enough. Come to Lagos, close drianages is one of the major issues Lagos state government is facing with respect to flooding. One step at a time bro, don't run faster than your shadow. We are there yet. The best most of our contractors can to now is open drianages with well-defined pedestrian walkway beside it so that we can easily manage the roads 8 Likes |

Kepukepu: Underground drainage channels is the way to go...........road infrastructure projects are so inflated that the design is wack from the begining. The technology to desilt underground drains is available but the design of the roads and its drainage has to incorporate the technology to desilt it.............I have seen such motorized pumps here in america, I am not sure how it really works but the pump or machine vacuums the drainage easily! 2 Likes |
You Cannot close drianages when you have not solved waste management issues and your people are My brother please think this you are saying… if open drains is the way out… tell me why Anambra is the headquarters of floods in Nigeria? Still with our open gullies ;floods shows us no mercy. We can’t stop flood because we are doing same thing…making same mistakes Ask yourself if open drains is working? There is no proactive steps by ANSG. Don’t support them ooo.. we are lagging behind Ask your self what orientation, even with strong punitive sanctions can bar residents from dumping inside the gullies? Trust me is impossible. Is Better we close it If gullies are closed no resident will want to open the heavy seal to dump refuse. If we will leave the open gullies debate for a minute why is the road so narrow..? The more we support them… they will take us for a ride.. Lagos is close to the ocean… houses are built on the lagoons and water ways; floods and house collapse are expected.. If we close our gullies we will deal easily refuse waste..everything will be on the surface and not blocking water channels 5 Likes |

I insist that you don't know what you are talking about. Roads are designed based on the peculiarities of the environment. Closed drianages in Nigeria now will be a disaster. The only way this can make sense to me is if waste management issues is mitigated and then you can close every single drainage in the country unless the canals. Just com to Lagos and see how canals are clogged, you will understand why state governments decide to keep drianages open for now. Oga, calm down, even in Akwa Ibom, drainages are usually opened, the difference is that Akwa Ibom roads have defined pedestrian walkways, any government that is covering drainages now in Nigeria does not know what she's doing |
Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by Ofodirinwa: 6:07pm On Sep 28, 2023 |
You cannot possible believe those open drains are actually draining anything lol. How can you have a drain that doesn't lead anywhere. It's just a bacteria pool that every now an then the sun dries up. Open drains aren't even drains, it's just ditches that are dung by habit and ignorance. Without said drain, nobody would change, unless we want to pretend they have kept their roads flood or puddle free. I have not seen a Nigerian road that's even designed to send excess water into a drain 4 Likes |

If covered drains is not saving us from erosion why is AMC covering their gutters? The only covered drains is AMC in the whole of Anambra tells us a lot of lack of standard on road amenities? And the peculiarity standard of our roads is narrow or thin roads without lights poles, trees, with open gutters.. Thank you.. Kepukepu: There is no one step at a time in this. Open drainage is the major causes of malaria and other diseases. It is dirty and something should be done about it. We should stop spending money and the same project every 8years. People will live based on the liberty and infrastructure you provide. Let everyone take responsibility so that Anambra will grow finally. Its saddening seeing open drainages in 2023. 2 Likes |
Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by Kepukepu: 9:08pm On Sep 28, 2023 |
Purehuman:close drianages can also cause malaria, mosquitoes will simply use the spaces for water entry to enter there and breed so it doesn't make any sense here. You can always close the drianages when time is right but you cannot wait for the right time to construct a road. The problem associated with closed drainages in an environment like Africa is much more than the aesthetic benefits. 2 Likes |

your questions doees not make any sense and that's why I'm not answering it. The issue is that open drianages makes it easier to desilt gutters, close drianages creates a problem of having to locate where it's blocked and opening them up every now and then. Since we cannot get waste management right yet, open the drianages for easier desilting instead of closing it, when waste management is good, you can easily close them. It's common sense and not rocket science. I don't know how that relates to this question you are asking. 2 Likes |
Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by Kepukepu: 9:18pm On Sep 28, 2023 |
Ofodirinwa:many of you Nigerians are sciolists. The reason why you have clogged gutters that never flows all boils down to poor waste management within our towns and cities. It's as simple as that. An average Nigeria does not understand that you don't just dispose plastic and nylon waste indiscriminately, it's going to block your gutter. So if you have a bacteria culture infront your house, you caused it and your government cannot clean your mess. You want to always create bacteria culture in front your house so the government can cover your shame. Covering the gutter does not solve the issues of flooding, you are only trying to cover your shame. When the time comes, we still need to spend extra money to open up your shame. The bacteria culture will be there whether closed or opened as long as waste management is abysmal. Covering it even makes it worse, only that you don't get to see it. So it's better we leave it open so we can see how shameless of a people we are. It becomes easy to clean up our mess that way. 1 Like |

Purehuman: Thank you my brother … there is no gain in those.. He is talking about waste.. who should regulate the waste? Is it the residents no… He talks about waste clogging the gutters.. it is almost impossible to stop residents from disposing waste in gutters… why not close it… which resident will take the pains to open the gutters and dump waste? There is no peculiarities… if we want to change we do it ..so as Nigeria. More than half of the waste in Anambra is in the gutters, if gullies are desilted and covered government will know the magnitude of waste and how to manage it. There is open gutters, excess waste and erosion and somebody can’t think of solution but still aiding all factors … is crazy… really crazy AMC should have opened their gutters!!! …Wisdom profiteth to direct… News flash!!!! erosion still persist and is getting worse and all your suggestions is still applied the problem persist … chai.. change your way of thinking. 1 Like |

Poor drainage system is one problem I don't think many Nigerian governor is yet to come up with a solution. To solve this problem you will have to start teaching the residents of the locality the importance of proper waste disposal, sanitation and respect for their environments. 3 Likes |

There's not waste management system in most NIgerian cities. And worst, these drains don't 'lead' anywhere to be clogged from. They're just trenches lol |

when a drainage is coverd there would be no chance to dump refuese inside it, thus curtailing indiscriminate dumping of refuese & minimizing drainage blockage . Problem only arise when downside road is closed & upperside is opened, water carries dumped refuese from the open upperside to block the closed downside. . The only reasonable pretext ANSG isn't making coverd drainages is because of fund. . would you want 2 strong road or 1 with coverd drainage? There'er villges that would be very exciteted for only gutters talkless of road. Why splash money on coverd drainage when you have such problen on your foot? Naira has lost value for your info. 1B is nothing now. . ANSG shoud build coverd drainage where well-needed. Provisions should be made for future possibility of it in some certain roads. Drainage should be coverd from the uppermost part of the road, otherwise it ends dissastrous. 4 Likes |

Ofodirinwa:I don't know for drianages in Anambra but most drianages tha I have seen lead somewhere, they are only clogged. For example, every gutter in Mushin, surulere, orile, Ajegunle and Ijora connects to a central canal that channels this water to the lagoon, this is true for most parts of Lagos but the problem is that they have been clogged by plastic waste before even getting to the lagoon. Umuahia town is another example, it has a central canal that collects from other drianages and then sends all the water to Imo River. |

Everyone knows that the people doing ipob in Igboland are imo people. Keep deceiving yourself. Anambra border with imo is only where imo ipob terrorists are attacking, how come no other area in Anambra has ipob disturbances except Ihiala which is a the border with imo state. Orlu and Owerri are the headquarters of ipob terrorists, all the Ipob commanders are from imo state. Even imo government house has been renamed by ipob while uzodimma has been living in Abuja for the past two years since his house was bombed in Owerri. You can never find anyone from Anambra that’s in ipob. Millions of imo indigenes live in Anambra, very soon Soludo will start giving you guys ID card to identify you imo ipob terrorists. Kepukepu: Just imagine what a human being is writing Which Lagos are you talking about? Both areas with closed gutters and those with open gutters experience flooding in Lagos so how did you come to the conclusion that close drainage is the main problem of flooding in Lagos? With closed drainage, no one can easily throw trash into the drainage which will reduce the amount of plastic bottles that block our drainage system. And isn't it shameful that Anambra has not been able to solve the waste management issue in the state till now? In that Lagos you mentioned, I can remember how Fashola handled waste management and drainage system in Lagos until Ambode came and runied it with his greed. At that time, LAWMA was the best waste management company in Nigeria under Fashola. Now look at Anambra, a state that boasts of having a company that manufactures waste disposal trucks but can't manage waste. See how dirty the open gutters in Anambra are and one will just have to wonder what the benefit of open gutter is. Apart from reduced cost of construction, there is no other reasonable benefit of open gutters. Facts about open drainages: 1) People can easily dump their waste into the open gutters at will. 2) Waste materials on the road can be pushed into an open gutter either by wind, rain or just by the residents kicking them into the gutters. 3) Open gutters are known to get filled up at a much faster rate and quickly get blocked by waste materials and sand which then become a perfect building ground for mosquitoes and for the easy spread of diseases. 4) Open gutters are easy death traps as people can fall into them and either sustain serious injuries or worse, death 5) The only advantage of open drainages is that they are cheaper to construct than closed drainages. For the closed drainages: 1) Closed drainages are fitted with manhole covers which can be opened just incase the drainage needs major cleaning. 2) Waste materials can't easily get into closed drainages because they are covered and only the openings available are usually small enough to allow only water get in. 3) While it's possible for closed drainages to also get blocked, they provide less outlets for mosquitoes and other insects to escape making them contribute less to the spread of diseases as compared to opened drainages. 4) Closed drainages also tend to restrict the spread of foul smell better than opened drainages. 5) People can't fall into closed drainages thereby reducing risks on the road. 6) Closed drainages are more aesthetically pleasing and act as pedestrian walk ways. 2 Likes |

cadmanspize:you people are just plain moronic and brainless. Even if you cover the drianages, as long as waste management is poor, the plastic waste will still get into the covered drainages through the opening made for water. It's not very hard to understand but Africa does not reason critically. Covered drianages have spaces for water to flow into them, nylons and plastics can enterbinside there to go and back the drianages. Tackle waste management first then you can talk about covers drianages. FYI, you cannot cover canals, it's not done anywhere even in Europe, these plastics will still get into your canals because we are just brainless in this continent 3 Likes |
