We do not want to produce now. We want to be selling crude and be living large while doing nothing productive with our strength.
..that is the problem...we do but want to produce...just to be importing, importing, importing....in nigeria we import everything but export nothing, produce nothing...that is why the dollars is rising and the naira losing value... nigeria have to start to be a producing economy... industrialized country...this is the solution

Must importers pay clearing fee with dollars, they must all pay with the Naira.
The custom should review and cut down clearing fees, or allow the vehicle to be cleared at no cost.
There are a lot of rickety vehicles in circulation on Nigerian roads presently.

Nope this your beer parlor analysis.
Once imported cars reduce drastically, people will be forced to use other means. Is either you purchase locally made cars or use public transport or enter train if you reside is Lagos. Which is a win win for the economy. Importers are killing the economy, let that sink in.

Ah. With this your illiterate analysis. You’d fit right in as a Nigerian leader.

tollyboy5:

Is either you purchase locally made cars

Locally made cars are not produced in quantities sufficient to meet local demand, new cars are also relatively expensive and frankly people should have their choice of what they’d rather drive.

tollyboy5:

or use public transport

Thanks to incompetent and illiterate folks like you, a staggering proportion of Nigerians live below the poverty line. Even a change in import duties will not remove the customers from public transport

tollyboy5:

or enter train if you reside is Lagos..

The train that covers only a small portion of Lagos at the moment? Are you OK?

You’re not very bright at all.

Try to think before posting.

Not only can innoson motors not meet the local demand, their vehicles also aren’t cheap…and taxpayers should be able to buy what they want.

Because as it is, a brand new Innoson car can cost more than some second hand imports.

“Nigeria's dawn is almost here, we just have to endure the darkness a little longer.”
Yes , agreed. But we should all be feeling the heat together and the leaders can’t be collecting the same allowances in this dire state of our economy

I don't support Tinubu but floating the naira and removing subsidy was the best thing to do.
Alot of Nigerians don't understand how bad our economy is, they think its just to build roads and start farming etc.
Nigeria's economy needs a complete overhaul and the measures taken yet are just the beginning.
More hardship is on the way but like the saying the darkest hour is just before dawn, Nigeria's dawn is almost here, we just have to endure the darkness a little longer.

You are a clown and a fool.

I know that you are amongst those seeing FX inflows or corrupt stollen monies.

Look, you don't remove cushions from a system so sharply. . Moreso, Tinubu is not the right man for you to rely on for a change. . He is extremely corrupt and so are his cronies. .

A corrupt system can and will not bring out any significant change in the site situation of a nation.

Have you seen any palliative as promised. . ? Yet monies have been milked from the ground and systems of average Nigerian.

You guys just talk like duds. . So annoying.

They said we should discourage importation. This is one of the ways. Now fuel importers have stopped according to what they said. No wheat. No sugar. No this, no that. Issoright. Local industries packing up with MAN complaining about high cost of importing equipments and raw materials.

Meanwhile Oshiomole said “If the west celebrate our free market, no control, I am always suspicious”. Floating naira, that’s what he said on the floor of the senate chamber.

APC should please tell us how the price of a bag of rice can be affordable. What about security? Are these things “rocket science”, to borrow from Fashola?

The plaster was ripped off from the wound with the subsidy removal and floating on naira to get it's TRUE value. No point living a fake life. We are now seeing what the Nigerian economy is for really what it is. The Nigerian economy at large was a lipstick on a pig. Now we can rebuild after accessing how bad it really is.

Even if the rich people you speak of bought Innoson (and some do), that's not enough to sustain his business.

The mass production family cars that earn a car maker the money...Innoson variants are expensive. Too expensive. People prefer to buy 'cheaper' second hand cars.

It's like you don't understand what it takes y
to float a currency and what economic benefit a country has for taking this move.

In economics, you have to check your comparative advantagea before making such calculative move. What are the expected result or effect on the economy for floating the currency?

Oga, stop talking nonsense with confidence! I've been following your comments and you sound like an habitual drunk.

How many Nigerians can afford vehicles manufactured by Innoson in the East and Nord Automobiles in the West? A standard 4 wheel drive with an automatic transmission and i4 engine sells for at least 6 million from Innoson. You could get an imported 2010 Tokunbo Corolla for 3.5 million naira, before the dollar shot beyond 600 naira.

You blabbed about Nigerians seeking alternative means of transport if they cannot afford to buy vehicles. What alternative means? Public transport? E-hire services like Uber and bolt? Do you know how much you'll be burning monthly on transportation costs plus the inconveniences? Owning a vehicle is more cost effective when you consider that alternative.

Trains? So those who don't live in Lagos should not move because they cannot access train services? What kind of vacuous brain are you walking around with? You can only talk of cutting imports when you make local contents easily accessible and affordable for your citizenry. Some of you on nairaland really give existential definitions to thoughtlessness with the kind of opinions you vomit to the reading public.

I told them, this man asked Buhari to print more currencies and employ 50 thousand youths into the Nigerian army and feed them with agbado and pay them nothing.

They said he graduated with first class in accounting. Now, he floated the naira and give it a free way access....

Food stuffs are now 500times expensive more than what ordinary Nigerians would afford.

We warned you guys that this mad man was riding on the success of Fashola, you people resufed to listen. If I talk now, some Ozuor will accuse me of being Igbo.

This was how you people gaslighted Nigerians for 8 years under Buhari, we persevered and endured untold hardship after being told that our sufferings will soon end, now you people are doing it again under Tinubu. By the time Nigerians realise what is going on, we may no longer have a country.

Pray tell, who's mess is Tinubu cleaning? Because it sure isn't Jonathan's. That ship has looooooong sailed. I mean, it's already too far gone to blame Goodluck now so who should we blame? Why aren't we blaming anyone again? Buhari spent more than 6 years blaming Jonathan until it stopped working. So why is everywhere silent? Why aren't we playing the blame game again?

APC IS EVIL INCARNATE. THE EARLIER NIGERIANS REALISE THIS AND PURGE THEM OUT OF THIS COUNTRY, THE BETTER FOR US AND OUR CHILDREN. A WORD IS ENOUGH FOR THE WISE.

APC will rule Nigeria for at least 20 years and likely much longer. Nigerians are generally socialists and a feudal-socialist party like APC suits them just fine.

Have a good day.

Efewestern:

I'm one of those who still believe it makes zero sense to take loan from China and build railways. That's not our priority at the moment. We need to get things working. As it is, nothing works.

The pressure on the naira is just too much. Fuel importation alone drains more than half of what we earn selling raw crude. We can tap into the oil industry and flood the African markets with our products. Ghana shouldn't be importing fuel from India when there's Nigeria.

The naira will continue to fall until we take the pain and sort out and can be sorted out locally. For now, we can only hope Dangote stays true to his promise of getting that refinery working, that's the only way we can stabilise the naira a little bit.
/
The solution to Nigerian problems need political will and common sense but our armchair online economists will beg to differ. Nigeria can refine and corner the whole African market which is a lot. But because there is no political will, corrupt politicians and their cronies are making billions importing refined version of what we export in this 2023/24.

Ask the ones supporting the floating of naira, you will realize that they are mere echo-chambers who have no iota idea of what they are supporting. A patriotic Nigerian who is willing to throw away borrowed Economics and focus on Nigeria can fix many of the major issues in less than 2 years. The woman selling garri at Alaba Rago doesn't need an Economics degree from Harvard to understand the concept of Demand and Supply. Such local sense is what Nigeria needs now instead of trying to be more white than the Caucasians.
