Aemmyjah: Time to address this point. The thing with Bible based prophecy is that it is highly subject to whoever is interpreting the words. A Jew will not accept that the prophecies of the coming messiah were fulfilled in the Christian Jesus, because that narrative doesn't fit his perspective of the prophecy. The JW are a prime example of this high level of subjectivity with regards to Bible based prophecy. Their revision of Christ's Second Coming and the advent of God's Kingdom, from 1878 to 1881 to 1914 to 1918 and then 1925. They have now put the date into an indefinite state which of course is again open to interpretation. With this in mind it is not hard to see why anyone who believes in the Bible and its so-called prophecies could not easily interpret those prophecies to their own understanding. Aemmyjah here says the prophecies were fulfilled to exact detail. Really? Let's see. He claims Cyrus conquered Babylon without a fight, not true. Cyrus defeated the Babylonian army at the battle of Opis. It was after the battle that they surrendered. Some accounts do state that the city was besieged but it's debatable but that there was no battle at all is not correct. Was there even a prophecy in the first place? Unlikely since Isaiah 40-55 (which contains the references to Cyrus) was written DURING the Hebrew exile not the 150 years before being claimed. After Nineveh's fall during its height as the capital of the Assyrian Empire it continued to be occupied and was even the seat of a Christian bishop up to the 13th century so I dunno where Aemmyjah got the idea that Nineveh was denied to be real. Meanwhile this destroys the so-called detailed prophecy that Nineveh would be unoccupied because even today parts of the ancient city have been absorbed into Mosul, Iraq. I loved the so-called prophecy of Daniel that says Babylon would be or was the greatest kingdom. In what way was Babylon the greatest? It is not the greatest in wealth, not the greatest in territories held, not the greatest in military conquests or battles won. Kindly tell us how that detail was fulfilled. As to the other kingdoms, let's start with Alexander the Great and the Macedonian empire. The claim is that the leopard represents Alexander and the divided empire after his death, except Alexander did not use a leopard as a symbol rather he used snakes and the head of Medusa as his symbols. The empire didn't break into 4 pieces; rather there were multiple contenders and kingdoms that coalesced into 3 power blocs: the Ptolemaic Egypt, Seleucid Syria and East, and Antigonid Macedonia. Also nowhere in the so-called prophecy does it say that Alexander the Great would die young, mention the verse if there is. Now the claim is that it would be under the Roman Empire that Christ will come, well the Roman Empire has been gone for centuries now. The claim that the British Empire and the current American Hegemony are an extension of the Roman empire are nothing but laughable ideas. It would be similar to claiming that the Macedonian Empire is a continuation of the Persian Empire because the Macedonians defeated the Persians and took over their territories. When the Roman Empire fell in Europe they already knew they could no longer support their rule in Britain so they pulled out their troops and then the Anglo Saxons invaded and took over Britain. So tell me how people from a completely different cultural group are now an extension of another completely separate group? Does the world right now remotely resemble one that is being run by a single government? With European Union increasingly calling to themselves to straighten their internal ties and rely less on the US, with Britain leaving the EU, with China creating its own hegemony, with Russia trying to regain its former hegemonic glory, all of it very clearly indicates that there is no such Anglo-American hold on the world so where is this so-called Anglo-American world power that is to be destroyed? Jesus’ so-called prophecy is like prophesying that the sun will rise in the east and set in the west. Can anybody mention a time in history where any of these occurrences ceased? There is no century in recorded human history in which wars, battles and conflicts were not recorded. Same thing with food shortages, epidemics and so called fearful sights. What are even fearful sights? Almost any poorly understood phenomenon can be called a fearful sight. Also the Bible doesn’t even say that Jesus prophesied that these things would increase, quote the verse where it says there'll be an increase if you disagree. All these so-called prophecies and details are only compelling when you ignore a lot of the detail that doesn’t fit your narrative and finagles the one that seems to fit so you can construct a narrative.. 2 Likes |

LordReed: I'm on a journey to PH I'll respond Only God knows where you see the nonsense you wrote regarding Isaiah, except from fake articles (which you'll surely consult). It is well recorded that Isaiah was a prophet in the 8th century. We cannot be surprised if you or any other critic say he lived around the time of Cyrus since you are all blind. Isaiah is not the first person either to prophesy about the name of a person, and what he'll do, years in advance. To your own shame... If a Jew does not accept that Jesus is the foretold Messiah does not make the Bible invalid just as many atheist say Jesus never existed, is that your own point? Your claims about Cyrus is very silly and shows the height of your negative thinking and ignorance... Such a shame, I was really expecting you to do research... I am sure that you saw that what I wrote was the truth but kept finding religious propaganda till you found one. Battle of Opis kor, Battle of Opay nii I can't recall where I read where some people once dismissed Ninevah existence but was the prophecy about her overthrow amd total destruction also a coincidence or it was written at that time and forwarded to an ancient timing? How did Jeremiah know that the notorious Ninevah will be destroyed and uninhabited? Did he write his book when it was destroyed? Olodo, is the city of Ninevah (in Northern Iraq) still being occupied today? The answer is No. It was destroyed and not been occupied since, why not go there to see for yourself? Babylon was the greatest kingdom in it's own time just as there was a time when Rome was the greatest empire, Greece And Britain were the greatest in their own time... Don't ignore that one of the 7 ancient wonders of the world was in Babylon too and had the greatest defense .. Keep reading junkie, poor critic. Who would want to go and attack Babylon of old? You can only access the city by boat, they will just close their high gates and shoot their arrows at you from their walls. Powerful nation Alexander's death was sudden and his empire disintegrated into a 40-year period of war and chaos in 321 BCE. The Hellenistic world eventually settled into four stable power blocks: the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt, the Seleucid Empire in the east, the Kingdom of Pergamon in Asia Minor, and Macedon... Why not go and read for yourself the book of Daniel, you'll see where Daniel stated that his kingdom will not go to any of his descendants and that Alexander will not even last as a world ruler... Do you want to tell us that Daniel was a Jew in Alexander time? ... The Bible used a leopard to describe Alexander and that makes sense cos that animal is very swift just as Alexander rise to world power and Daniel used animals that walked on four legs... Whether Alexander worshipped snakes or birds is irrelevant Which empire was ruling as worldpower when Jesus came? It even makes sense since you don't doubt Jesus existence and that critics call him a character forged by the Romans even adds more evidence. Did Daniel exist in Jesus day? Did you not read what I wrote about Britain and how it fulfilled the prophecy that it will defeat 3 kingdoms to become great? What have you got to say about that. Abi na lie? Anglo-American are the current world powers and I wrote that their influence will be greatly weakened and that is what we see today. Daniel even wrote that this worldpower will face constant 'pushing' by rivals and that is what we are seeing. We had the German empire, the Soviet union and now, Russia and allies... I deliberately hid that, now you've simply added to fulfill what was written beforehand. Thank you. What we have today is not battles but wars as Jesus said and not just battles between armies of 2 or more nations and the first world war happened in 1914. ... Jesus did not isolate events but gave a composite sign that will be held. Mention that century that all these things were being experienced all over the world at the same time including the preaching of the goodnews of the kingdom, the increase in lawlessness, blasphemy, FALSE CHRISTS, hatred, betrayals, fearful anticipation of the future, food shortages, earthquakes in one place after another, epidemics, ruining of the earth . Which century? Tell us... Even our climate change has caused fearful sights from rising sea levels, floods, droughts, crop failures, pest increase. We live in fear, everything is fear. We hear of nuclear or nuclear Armageddon which makes politicians and scientists give fearful prediction. Doomsday everywhere... Bible said these things will increase. Are they not increasing? Is moral decay not increasing? Is hatred and food shortages not increasing? Is blasphemy not increasing? Is fearful news not increasing? Are wars not increasing? Are reports or rumors of wars not increasing? Who will have predicted these 2000 years ago? If you had asked someone that lived 2 or 3 centuries ago to predict world conditions and people's attitude, they would have said things will get better Abeg, go and rest. You have nothing meaningful say or contribute ever since you and other mad atheists join the religious forum in NL and your posts amd comments reflect people with no sense of purpose or meaning. You just came here to find relevance to meaningless philosophy 1 Like 1 Share |
