Ballerina - 6.0/10
Warning ⚠️: Spoiler Alert 🚨
While the story of the movie is somewhat confusing and boring with very slow pacing, the breathtaking action sequences covered for those lapses.

This is what a proper action movie should look like. The way she "off-ed" the boss without long cap is what added 3.0 to my rating. Some other movie would let the antagonist talk and talk when the protagonist is with a gun. You no go sh00t the werey once?

The action scenes were neatly shot and delivered 💯. I guess the action is the only thing the movie can boast of... Pretty entertaining.

Israel vs Palestine 2023

Just watching the war drama unfold.

Truth be told, the average Nigerian is ignorant and delusional. Most with christian (Judeo-Christian) background just support Israel with blind faith. The muslims also support Palestine with blind faith.

The issue lies in the middle. First the Israeli Jews did actually throw the first punch by forcefully acquiring land from the Plaestine people in the first place, historically. No land is God given. You cannot use religion to own land.

Fast-forward to the present day, the Palestine people, in the form of Hamas, threw the first punch by attacking the Israeli people and reignited the war.

There is always two sides to a story.

Continuing on the ignorance of the average Nigerian, we can relate said ignorance to the movie section right here on Nairaland.

On most movie forums or groups abroad, you will see people dissecting movies from different angles. From the graphics, to the politics, to the themes and quality of writing. Also such foreign groups also tend to have a lot of members who watch movies at the cinema.

But come to Nairaland, and you will see all manner of reviews that have no context. 95% of the Nairaland movie forum don't even watch movies at the cinema.

The ignorance comes in their defence of not watching movies at the cinema. What they don't realise is that they are exposing their poverty based mentality when arguing against cinema movies. Now, it is not compulsory to watch all movies at the cinema but as a movie fan or fanatic, you have to watch some of the blockbusters at the cinemas.

The irony being that cinema tickets are cheaper in Nigeria than the west. A blockbuster movie costs at least 10 pounds in Central London. 10 pounds is 12,000 Naira at the moment.

There is a certain nuance that comes with watching a movie at the cinema during its release. For instance, Black Panther was a success because of its timing. It was released at black history month, and at a time when there was scarcity of black African heroes. The black panther movie was also a movement at the time with everyone coming out of the cinema with the cross-armed Wakanda greeting. Watching the movie four months later wouldn't have that effect.

some people dissect movies here.
I also do sometimes but not all movies are worth the stress when I'm not getting paid to do it.

There is also the issue of posting spoilers which is frowned upon here.

For the last point, watching a movie in cinema or at home has no implication on it's quality. Same as either watching a football match in the stadium or a public hub/viewing center or at home.

The only difference is the experience.

Some movies are made for the cinemas and some of these movies even use certain tricks to blind the audience into believing that the quality of the writing is actually better than it is.
Case in point: Spiderman: No Way Home

Objectively, No Way Home is at best a 7/10 but with nostalgia bait and popcorn crowd experience, many viewers during it's cinema run saw it as a 10/10 masterpiece.

Once it hit streaming and people were properly able to dissect the movie without all the cinema noise, all the flaws were highly noticeable

In fact, I would trust a review that was made after a movie was carefully watched over one that has its flaws hidden by cinema noise

Lastly, some movies also release a slightly different version for streaming where they correct all the errors made during the rushed cinema release. You can even get a director's cut with added scenes that were removed during it's cinema run to cut down runtime

Looking down on people's reviews cos they watched it at home is pathetic. Most movies don't cost more than #3500 to watch but it also takes a lot of time and stress to go to the cinema which people would rather use for other things...

You should note that not everyone here even has time to watch movies at a single sitting...some watch in 3 sittings

Some movies also are not even worth the money, time or stress in going to the cinema for them e.g Antman, Shazam, The Flash, Blue Beetle etc

You can even add taste too. Some people won't make sacrifices to watch Barbie cos it's not really to their taste but they can find time to watch it on streaming in like 3 sittings

You've said it all. I for one, I'm of the belief that cinema should be meant for live events in the era of home media. There's so much distraction at the cinema compared to watching at home on your laptop and mobile device

SHE MUST BE OBEYED --- 3.5/10

A series that was destined to have a lot of goodness going for it but unfortunately, all that was shattered thanks in whole to being boring, uninteresting, having some senseless plot elements, and lacking a cohesive storyline... the plot was loosed, flying all over the place like smokes released into the atmosphere.

Well, despite its "Tragicness", it had some good elements that tried in their restricted capacities to at least make it watchable. Elements like;

* The actings of Funke Akindele, Bishop Imeh Umoh (Etim) and Akah Nnani (Sisqo). Their actings were impressive. They brought life to the series.

* The bringing back of classic actors in the name of Mike Ezeruonye and Chiwetalu Agu. Seeing them after a long time was thrilling.

* The comic performance of one of my favorite comic actors in Nollywood, Imeh Bishop Umoh. His acting was amazing. He really cracked my rips.

* The good musical scores. It got that one right.

* Showcasing the dirty shenanigans that goes on in the Nigerian Music Industry --- the social media dramas, trolls, fake lives, fake philanthropy, image smearing, sextape scandals etc.
To be candid, a film like this would have done way better as R-rated, but unfortunately it wasn't. Stories like this needs to be told raw, without any form of censorship.
Aka
Aside these, the series was a disaster in storytelling. It, unfortunately, will always be in "Potential Hell", leaving us wondering how it would have been if done well. This motion picture has the potential of being the Nigerian Music Industry version of Succession and Empire, but unfortunately that isn't the reality.

I sincerely hope its sequel will be well done in other to rectify this trauma of a series.

#Xavier
Akah Nnani acting like bobrisky and Derenle Edun. I don't understand. All these effeminate adaptations in local content is beginning to piss me off. It's disgusting watching your fellow man behaving like a she when we are not the west

International Politics is a general Knowledge lol, you only see what they want you to see, you've never been to Israel nor Palestine, everything you think you know is from a media source that can serve as a tool for propaganda, the real knowledge is reserved for those in the inner circle which you're clearly not a part of, every now and then they feed you crumbs from their basket of knowledge and you happily come to NL playground to show off your new pinch of knowledge like a primary school kid who got a new bicycle.

I'm sorry but this is totally wrong

1. First of all, I clearly stated that it is not compulsory to watch all movies. Only a few blockbuster movies is okay. I personally watch about 1 movie a month. There are at least 4-7 releases a month in the cinema.vSo you clearly didn't read my comment well.

2. Secondly, the point is that defending not going to cinema while being a super Nairaland movie critic as a hobby doesn't tally.

3. 5,000 naira a month for 6 months is not bad. Some people here have gaming laptops, good IT jobs and expensive gadgets. Watching 3-6 cinema movies a year is not expensive. It is poverty mentality when you cannot spend on your hobby despite not being broke.

4. I didn't watch bluebeetle in the cinemas.

5. Your point about spiderman no way home proves my point. The atmosphere and the buzz around the movie is different. Black panther also had the same effect. If you watched black panther months after its release at home, you wouldn't understand the hype.

But what do I know? People hate the truth.

If I am lying, go to reddit or any movie forum and see how a significant number of them watch movies in cinemas. Our Nigerian brethren are ignorant of their poverty mentality.

Foreigners who have never been to Nigeria were able to predict that a christian president will rule after the death of Yar Adua- and next would be a Muslim. A think thank in Scotland predicted that.

Can't wait for part 2.

I think Tom Cruise will go underwater in part two. The man likes risking his life

I'm still amazed he did the jump off the cliff with a bike a whopping six (6) times while filming

Ishi, I want you to look into this. I saw this Ghanaian movie. A couple is about to get married. The bride invites her friends from abroad. During the traditional wedding, one of the Bride's friends confesses he and the groom slept together ten years ago in college, like a one nite stand causing the wedding to come to an abrupt end. i was now wondering, is that a genuine reason to call off a wedding or the writer was being petty.

Entertaining at first but got old real quick. Good for a boring day.

THE NUN 2 --- 7/10

With a;

* Good storyline (the continuation and conclusion of the story arc that began in The Nun).

* Terrifying horror theme.

* Good musical score and sound effect.

I can say The Nun 2 is an amazing religious horror flick, once again attesting to the awesomeness of The Conjuring Universe. I have to admit, to me, The Conjuring Universe is the best horror franchise, little wonder its reputation as the most successful horror franchise globally. It never lets down.
