Yes you can depending on passport office

Ibadan will not even capture you on appointment date even if you are number 1, they always reschedule appointments so they can fill in their candidates

I want to express my gratitude to everyone for their contributions. I visited the Alausa Passport office for my passport renewal today and would like to share my experience.

Upon arrival, I was directed to the servicom hall for the DIY team, where a helpful staff (lady) reviewed my documents.

She instructed me to obtain a brown file, rewrite my renewal application on A4 paper, and make a photocopy of the last page of my passport (not just the data page). After swiftly completing these tasks, she cross-checked my documents, added my two recent passport photos, and handed me the file to take to room 12.

In room 12, a meticulous lady thoroughly examined my application letter, verifying details such as the passport number, expiry date, and my signature within the letter. She then signed and dated it.

Returning to the previous staff member, she double-checked the work from room 12 and made some notations on my file. I was then directed to another area for passport capturing, a process that took less than 30 minutes.

The entire experience was remarkably efficient, taking less than an hour in total.

Documents required for renewal:

- Brown file (available for ₦500 on-site)
- Copy of the online passport application form
- Copy of the payment receipt
- Copy of the acknowledgement slip
- The passport you wish to renew
- Copy of both the data page and the last page of the expired passport
- Two recent color passport photographs
- Copy of your NIN slip
- Application letter written on A4 paper.

Regards.

Reporting from Alausa Passport Office:

I think there is a lot of improvement with passport capture and collection currently.

I went today to collect mine and for my wife, spent around 1hr 30m despite meeting a huge crowd there already. The activation is now automatic, they activate it immediately after production, so you don't need to waste time collecting and queuing for activation. That also means you can collect for your family members and friends.

Captured May,
Issued 4th September.
Collected 27th Oct.

What are the things you took with you for the capturing. I read sth about white and brown envelope that one need to buy. Please if you can state how you went about everything, I will appreciate Sir. From the moment you steped into the alausa office till when u left.

Thank you

Prior to the enforcement of NIN across all national and government-related matters, NIN wasn't a requirement..but now, it is.

I'm not sure but I can't remember using my NIN for my previous passport.
You have your NIN slip, check to see for yourself and then do the needed.

So now, does it mean I'm going to have problem even if "one" name on my NIN doesn't tally with the one I intend to use for my passport. Though I have a court affidavit

Dear all,

I'm here to give a summary of my experience at the Gwagalada office of the Nigerian Immigration service, to applaud them this group and hope it helps others.

I needed to renew my passport and change my surname to my married name.

I contacted the Nigerian Immigration Service Twitter handle via the number on their Tweet and which they announced on Brekete family radio show on Youtube. I explained that my passport is expired, I will be in Nigeria for a period of 2weeks and will like to change my name and renew my passport.

He confirmed that I can travel in with my expired passport. I asked for a copy of the official communique which he kindly provided.
He said however, that he could not guarantee it will be ready within 2 weeks as the change of name will be approved at the head office but that the head at Gwagalada was a professional man who is passionate about making the system work. I think he's CSO, Comptroller, CO or so.

I contacted a newspaper to announce my change of name, did my e-affidavit and made my application online.
I showed my expired passport upon entry at the airport in Abuja and told the immigration officers that I'd applied for my passport DIY and needed my passport to be renewed in time. He called an officer at the Gwagalada officer and told him I was renewing my passport at his office and gave me his number.

I arrived at the Gwagalada office 2 days after the capture date after I had updated my NIN. I called the officer but as I went to see him I remembered that the PRO had given me the CO's number who I had spoken to months prior. I rang him and he said I should come to his office.

I went in, they checked my docs, I captured and he said my application was being taken tot he head office with others. I got my passport within a week later. I didn't pay anything to anyone to do anything and no one asked me for anything.

I'd read about him in the thread in the past. Truly, the man is a professional officer to the core, he's Christian and Igbo. I pray people like him will have more responsibility in Nigeria so things can get better.

I think the PRO officer is now the head at the head office. Also an absolute professional even helpful when I was trying to renew my passport in the UK.

Many thanks to everyone who keeps this page helpful and going.

Sometime last month, I stumbled on this thread and realised that it's very possible for me to run my passport registration myself, so I began the process.

As team DIY, I chose the Alausa Passport Office, Lagos after reading good reviews from here.

So today I was at the venue for capturing, I got there some minutes past 9am. An officer attended to me, asked for a copy of the following documents:
Online receipt
Application form
Appointment slip
Guarantor's form
Indigen cert
DOB cert
NIN slip
Data page of guarantor's passport
2 passport photos

She however rejected my guarantor's form saying that the Notary stamp on it is unacceptable. That only a high court stamp will be accepted.

I left the venue to Lagos State High Court, Ikeja to get the form stamped and was charged #2,000 for it because my guarantor was not present with me. The funniest thing is that 200 naira was written on the receipt. I just smiled and collected my form so as to return to the immigration office.

At the immigration office, I showed the officer all these documents again and the process began.

NB; Please make sure to go with your original documents and not scanned copies. She also told me that only the data page of guarantor's intl passport is sufficient and even returned the driver's licence copy I had gone with.

The whole process took about 1 hour and around 1pm, I had left the place after receiving a slip confirming the capturing and January 2024 was stated as collection date.

Thanks to everyone who always put information here and all those who replied my questions 👍🏽

Hi, glad you got your issue fixed in time and with no complaints. I have someone in same situation (intent to renew her passport to her new married surname) and would like to ask if the update/change can only be done in Abuja? Secondly, I just checked the NIS twitter handle and couldn't find any contact number there. Could you share the number here?

Thanks in advance.
