Good morning nairalanders, please i'm in a little fix and need honest opinions. I have been reading about care giver job and people say its a nasty job and degrading. I also have an opportunity to enter UK via IT work but we will be trained for some months in the UK on tech skills before job placements. I have aready done courses on care giving and gotten certificates and have also commensed processing for HCPC registration (i am originally into Healthcare here in Naija but must get UK license before getting a job in my original career and chances of me getting a job in my original career is higher if i am already in UK). Bottom line is that... The goal now is to enter the UK legally. Should i take the IT opportunity or the care giver route? Please don't discourage me. I have been through alot already. |

FaithfulGod4me: Which one do you like? Which do you want based on your research? Which one is most likely to give you the sort of life and freedom you want? How sure is the IT route? Do you actually like tech? You are already in the Healthcare field. Do you like it? |

And trust satan, he will capitalise on that fear and link up 1 or 2 funny examples. What if Dangote or Innoson tells you His first capital was from a land sale? |

hustla: The tech experience i will get will even help boost my cv when i finally get my Biomedical Scientist job. So yes, i like tech and also open to the idea of development and new things. Mind you, the final goal in the nearest future is to get my HCPC license and get a regular job. 7 of my university classmates are already registered and working in UK as Biomedical Scientist. So the Tech/Carer route is basically a legal way into UK and i get to work for them for 1 year compulsorily after which i can get another job if I so wish. Note its a 5 years work visa. The only thing scaring me from the care giver work is how people have been complaining that its a very messy job. Please more inputs ๐ |

FaithfulGod4me: Will the tech route give 5 years? ... And yes, the carer one is... I won't call it messy, just never liked it ( except you're in mh, which I doubt) If the tech route is sure, 5 yrs and will boost your biomedical endeavors, by all means choose that |

bigtt76: I beg to disagree! Don't attribute the social media thing to only our people (Nigerians). I come across loads of this sort of posts and even more on social media especially LinkedIn from different nationals, not just Nigerians! I don't do it and don't see any big deal about it. It's social media for a reason. I read it, smile and move. Folks also come here to share the news that they have passed their theory test, driving test, gotten this job and that job, arrived the UK etc... That the trend beats you doesn't make it entirely wrong. 1 Like |

Hello everyone, I want to share an update on my journey in the UK. In 2022, I faced challenges finding a job after relocating to the UK. I appreciate all the advice I received from you all during that time. After careful consideration, I decided to transition from a career in biotechnology to one in Tech. I chose to pursue software development and dedicated several months to studying it. In October of last year, I successfully landed a job as a developer at a local council. It is a hybrid role with highly flexible hours. I only need to be in the office once a week, which allows me to clock out at any time to handle nursery pickups or grocery shopping. The main drawback is the lack of opportunities for career advancement and the excessive bureaucracy when it comes to simple tasks, such as downloading software. Currently, I'm seeking further guidance and support. Here's where I could use some help. I am in the UK on a dependent visa, and the visa is set to expire in January. Unfortunately, my husband, who has recently completed his PhD in chemical engineering, has been facing challenges in securing employment due to companies requiring prior experience. Endorsement wasn't approved for global talent. I've reached out to my current employer to inquire about the possibility of them sponsoring my visa, and they have mentioned that they will explore this option. However, I'm uncertain about what steps to take next. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. |
