Regarding check points they are not without the knowledge of the higher ups. In many cases na the bosses dey allocate them to spots to man

This is why I said follow the chain of command in punishing their leadership, that is if the IG and other leaders of the force are serious about fixing the system.

The culture of corruption is massive in Nigeria.

Nothing, absolutely nothing is going to come out of it. Again, weak institutions and enforcement.

Example: Illegal Check Points. I have made this suggestion before..

If police officers are caught mounting illegal check points, locate the ASP/ DSP/ SP in charge of the station where they are stationed and punish him/her severely. You can use progressive discipline like suspension, transfers, demotion and ultimately expelling the officer from the force. Enforce it to the next level of command above the ASP/DSP/SP in charge of stations in that area. By the time 3-4 DSPs lose their jobs or get demoted because of illegal check points others will sit up because you can't tell me the ASPs/DSP/SPs don't know where his officers are after they resume shift even if they are on patrol.

This is like the 3rd time we hearing this since this administration started. They should match action with words and not repeating same thing every market days.

Great point.

Well, they should stop disturbing Nigerians like they are trying to do anything differently. Our weak institutions constitute one half of our problem.

Before Asiwaju put that out, if he is serious and not pandering to the populace, I would hope he has set expectations of compliance on the IGP. If I have to go through 50 IGPs to get the right one that will meet my expectation, I will at this point.

I'm not sure whether it's on this thread or Chelsea thread when we had discussion about Police and it's issues, one point I pointed out is that the Police Act needs to be amended to allow for IGP to be appointed outside of the Police force. Someone who hasn't gone through the muddy ladder of the Police force. That's the only person that can bring change to the Police force.

The lower cadre officer don't even respect their Oga at the top. That's why you'll see a junior office telling you that if you like call commissioner of police, nothing will happen.

Same reason why IGP will give orders and junior officer will be flouting it brazenly yet IGP can't do anything about it. All of them are the same.

i have said this before

one of the reasons police will never be removed from VIPS is becaise the police attached to VIPS are mostly SPY

supernumary police

https://nigerianqueries.com/spy-police-in-nigeria/

i witnessed oga at the top drivers converted to spy police

if i remember correctly, their salaries are not paid by the NPF but by their employers

so all this talk of no orderlies is just hogwash.

the orderlies you are seeing are not taken from the general population of police,

as a matter of fact - any one of us can apply to become a SPY police officer

the benefit as said in the article, is that if you encounter regular police, they will immediately behave once you pull out your card

i have seen this happen

saying orderlies will be removed from VIPS is like saying drivers will be removed from VIPs

the orderlies are DIRECT employees of the VIPS who have secured police privileges.

How far is Germany from Austria? I see Austria official language is German. Are they close to each other or how did Austria get to have German has its official language?

Austria is basically an extension of Bavaria and Bavaria is in the northern part of Germany. Austria really should be a part of Germany because they share the same customs and language. What’s even interesting is, I can use my €49 Deutschland ticket to navigate around Austria and it’s legal.

I’m pretty sure ChristineC is more knowledgeable about Austria as she lives there.

Switzerland is also a German speaking country that’s not a part of Germany

Austria was meant to be part of Germany from the start, but the Prussians and Austrians had a tussle which the Prussians won, so they ensured Austria was kicked out of the union from inception as there could not be 2 masters. The Austrian leadership also had reservations about joining the German union because they (the Austrians) had a lot of non-German territories in Hungary, Eastern Europe, and the Balkans which they might have had to give up in order to join the German union.

You can read up on the Grossdeutchland vs Kleindeutchland debate.

The bold is not totally true . There are thousands of REAL police officers who are not SPY police attached to VIP’s all over the country .

SPY police don’t carry guns but u can see mobile police officers and black uniformed policemen attached to people like dem Obi Cubana, some northern Alhaji millionaire , celebrity touts like MC Oluomo etc all bearing police service weapons . I still mentioned it here recently , with less than 150k u can hire a Toyota Landcruiser for a whole day which comes with an armed mobile policeman acting as escort which will take u anywhere u desire in this Lagos . U don’t even need millions to get the full attention of a MOPOL with gun for a whole day while so many parts of the country are left under-policed .

These shiiiits happen in this country for real .

U think the media that keeps bringing up the matter and reporting the one million and one times they’ve ordered the withdrawal of policemen attached to VIP’s don’t know the difference between SPY and real police officers ?

with regards to mobile police

we commisioned this station and were doing mop up

the dealer and her crew moved in and started setting up

next thing they called some sort agency to ask for deployment of mopol as security

so a business person was paying a monthly sum for deployment of armed mopol as security on their site

i never bothered to ask exactly what and how this worked

but it would seem there is a scheme in place where you engage and pay nigerian police [or some other agency] for armed mopol guards

because these guys were def mopol and the person using them was def not a govt vip, just a regular businessperson

with regards to the media i have come to the conclusion that a lot of the time they will post what raises quick outrage and sells papers

this issue of people paying for services of mopol has NEVER been reported in any newspaper.

if i could observe it during the course of my work a journalist should have actually investigated this long ago. and it is possible that it has been investigated - but is a story that will deviate from the preferred narrative.

There are a whole lot of absurdities that goes on in this country that goes unreported or under-reported by the media .

It appears the media too get tired at some point because when they report some of these things we either trivialize it or just simply say “na naija we dey now , not abroad …. What do u expect ?”

Apart from police officers , there are other government agencies that are trained and funded with tax payers’ money yet they get seconded by their oga’s to third parties after such interested party parts with some reaonable cash . On Sundays try drive around , u will see road safety officers , LASTMA , LNSC and even NSCDC attached to churches , Asalatu’s supervising the parking of congregants’ vehicles on both sides of the road while just leaving the middle of the road for other road users to use.

They leave the main road where they should be directing traffic , busy causing and supervising traffic on the church or praying ground road by parking vehicles there illegally legal grin.

How many media wan report that one ? Yet I’ve witnessed this happen over and over again.

Nigeria is a jungle. The leaders who have had the opportunity to travel out and see what a sane society looks like have to bear a large chunk of the blame in this particular issue. Many Nigerians were brought up in this system and so do not even recognize what is abnormal, therefore they might not even be sensitized to complain or do something about it.

That is even if you want to behave yourself. If you want to misbehave with siren and police escort, and oppressing your fellow man then you must go back home.

Considering the amount of resources available in technology, the internet, social media, etc, I will tell you that I am sort of disappointed in Nigerian journalists of today. It just seems like they have misplaced priorities. Only very few journalists are putting the work in unearthing some of these atrocities and making them public.

The racketeering going on in public hospitals across the country, the massive corruption in the Police, judiciary, courts, different ministries and government agencies. How about the immigration, prison/ corrections? Should we talk about public universities?

Journalists are supposed to be the eyes of people through investigative works. Big credit to the group that exposed the LASU certificate scandal. Now, LASU leadership know they are being watched and will take serious steps to address the issue.

With all that being said, there is a legitimate argument that can be made that nothing comes out of it. I mean, look no further than the current APC chairman and former Governor of Kano state who was caught on video collecting bribe and the journalist who exposed the crime suffered the consequence.

I just weak for naija..

This is because there is not much civic journalism going on anymore. What we have is more of agenda-driven political journalism. Civic journalism can be tedious and does not sell but agenda and political posturing do. The bottom line is the bottom line.
