How much is the dowry?

Let's start from there.

Because I know dowry isn't that expensive, in many occasions, when you pay the dowry, your in-laws will even from there remove something and give you people for transport fare and also tell you people that they are not selling their daughter.

Again, tell us where the prospective in-laws are from?

Probably your woman has gone to plead on his behalf and try to make her family see reasons why they should make things easy for your friend and you're here calling it desperation. It's well. A little correction bro.

It is the bride's family that pays the dowry in the form of money, gifts, or properties to the groom, not the other way around.

Regarding your question, men have been doing 'a little something on her head' since the time of Adam. Her family is made up of good people; many will accept it if you offer to make a partial/down payment for your wife and complete the payment later. However, for them to suggest it means they are good people.

Note: My choice of words is intentional because marriage in some places is a business transaction in disguise.
