Bobloco: Right, if he did that, he would be paying something like N500-800 per liter in subsides. Up from around N300 or thereabouts a year ago. That means that the subsides would eat out of the budget so much that everything else would be run by taking more loans in the short term GEJ removed subsidy because 2011 costs of subsidy were thrice that of 2010. By the time Tinubu and folks like you forced him to bring back fuel to N97 from the N140 it was sensibly at, the cost of subsidy was N2 per liter. In 2015 it hit N50 or thereabouts per liter. Our reserves were shot as a result, and we were borrowing to pay salaries.... That is the same problem we keep having with susbsidy, back when we had working refineries, and back when we did not. Making petrol costs a lot of money. You cannot control the production cost of fuel. That is what your hero GEJ was trying to tell you guys, but you told him to shut up. Now you want Tinubu to tip us over into total bondage of the IMF...on top of the bad things he hast done...loading us up with Buhari who made things worse, and now taking over, and continuing wasting spending...by spending more on subsidy...so that, cheap fuel Ask Venezuela how much it cost them in keeping fuel at N40 per liter. Loss of refining capcity, and now they can't even supply Cuba with cheap fuel like they used to do, among other things. Am sure you would abuse me and call me names, but the honest fact is, petrol costs over N1000 to refine, and subsidising it is a fool's errand. The more the price jumps up, the more it gets worse. Tinubu self is doing what you are suggesting...partial subsidy(none in government dare call it that)....and it is leaching money we do not have. You want him to make it worse, because poor have to breathe. |

WorldRichest: Subsidy hasn't gone totally. The fact is, fuel is still being partially subsidized. We are supposed to be paying at least N900 before we can state that subsidy is gone. NNPC is still the sole importer of fuel. |
