IamAtikulate: You need to make a thread out of this and educate those primitive mud house dwellers. Ogun state is industrialized according to them, yet the state has the worst roads in Nigeria. The state has the worst rural areas and even the worst urban centers. What happened to all the money generated in the so-called industries? 100% repatriated outside the state. The other day, a community in Ogun state was celebrating electricity for the first time!!! Can you imagine that!!!? They should continue celebrating Chinese, Indian and Igbo industries while their region remain stuck in 17th century. 4 Likes |

Sadwaste: They are too unexposed to understand Advanced Macroeconomics. So, I will rather not waste time with them. Sadwaste:They celebrate FDI without knowing that it's primary essence is technology transfer. Once a foreign direct investment doesn't fit into that aim, then it's counterproductive. The funny thing is these guys don't even understand how dangerous building an economy on FDI is. If Dangote makes 1 billion in Ogun, it means he has mopped up 1 billion of Ogun purchasing power. Spending 350 million on personnel cost is like injecting 350 million of the 1 billion back to the economy. If the company pays 350 million in taxes, that means 350 million of that 1 billion pulled from Ogun will be used to empower the FG, with a little going to Ogun. These deductions leave the company with 300 million net profit which will be repatriated. This means for every 1 billion profit this company makes (mopped from Ogun purchasing power), about 700 million leaves the state. No economy will develop through this kind of capital flight. But if the company is indigenously owned, it will mop up funds from other states it sells to and return them to Ogun. That's why no state can match Anambra. Peter Obi understands the dangers of overtly relying on FDI, that's why he was very strategic with his arrangements with SABmiller. The company is the second largest Brewer in the world. When it entered Onitsha, Peter Obi bought 10% stake in the company. At least, he will retain 10% of it's capital within the state. And that's not all. He formed an indigenously owned brewing company, Intafact and make it a subsidiary of International Brewing PLC, a subsidiary of SABmiller. Intafact is what brews the beer, using SABmiller technology and processes. With this move, Peter Obi achieved both technology transfer and capital retention. Today, Hero sells in Lagos and outside SE. Proceeds from these sales will be repatriated to Anambra and retained in Anambra. Only a few leaves as capital flight. Sadwaste: The fact that Ogun has so many factories but the state still looks largely undeveloped shows that they are not as industrialised as they claim. Leaving your economy to foreigners is like skating on thin ice. 2 Likes |

Na so you go dey disgrace Yourself. Instead of OP to praise Anambra normally, him say ' The Largest .....' . See the screenshot below. Is it possible for Anambra to be the largest ... and yet is 12th in terms of IGR?.. Is it that Anambra companies neither pay tax nor employ proper staff to remit PAYE? Or is it that all the long list of companies listed OP don't really carry any weight? Or is it that the OP only felt he needed to chest-beat and boast as usual? Lagos IGR is times 20 of Anambra IGR. Ogun IGR is times 3.7 Anambra IGR. Oyo IGR is times 2 of Anambra IGR. Even Kwara IGR is more than Anambra's IGR. So, of what use is all the stories you wrote up there? Can someone please educate me if my line of thoughts is not in the proper direction? I studied English and Literary studies, not economics. So I'm open to correction in my analysis.

yommen:IGR = Taxes Anambra is a tax haven, in case you don't. Again, SE leaders are more economically sound than their SW counterpart. For instance, Alex Otti recently said that "Taxes are government share of the prosperity it creates." Do you really understand what that means? Have you wondered why SE Governors, especially Abia and Anambra keep lowering taxes? You won't understand because you guys suck at economics. Keep celebrating IGR which is not an economic indicator while your debts keep mounting. You claim to generate the highest IGR in the country yet SW has the highest debt ratio. It doesn't make sense. If Anambra State government is tax-obsessed like Ogun and SW Governors, only Onitsha Main Market will generate the whole if whatever IGR Ogun gets. You are making noise because of 120 billion. FYI, 12 million daily transaction happens at Onitsha Main Market. The market annual transactions sits at around $3 billion, with 40% of this circulating as unbanked transaction. You can verify these claims with a simple Google search. If Anambra government taxes just 1% of these transaction, it'll generate $30 million annually, which is approximately 21 billion naira. If government taxes 5%, it'll generate 105 billion from the market alone. But Anambra has 48 markets. So, trade and commerce in Anambra can generate more than Ogun IGR. If you are underrating trade, then look at the evidence below. Trade is the third largest component of Nigerian GDP, far ahead of manufacturing 2 Likes

IamAtikulate: SW might have the highest debt profile but look at it. More of your people are spread all over SW overstretching it's resources. So, SW government is faced with more responsibilities than your governments, hence the debt. How can you say IGR not an economic indicator of productivity of a state? Guy, try use sense na.

yommen:IGR is not a developmental indice. And if you are an Economist, you would have know that taxes make people worse off. So, the more your IGR, the lower your aggregate purchasing power. And this means lower standard of living. SE uses low taxes to stimulate economic growth. How is SW governor faced with more responsibilities than my Governor? What exactly is in Ogun that other SE Governors are not doing? 1 Like |
Re: Anambra: The Largest Indigenous Industrial Hub In Nigeria (picture) by igwebuike01: 9:49pm On Nov 27, 2023 |
yommen:Five SE states is more populated than five SW states without Lagos. Be guided Nobody can tax himself into prosperity. Reason why Ogun towns remains backwards Secondly, the IGR figure you see are not there. They were squandered as they renter. So your elites taxed you to live in luxury while you perish 1 Like |
