How does bullying affect someone in an environment especially academic environment. I am actually in an academic environment and I am being bullied. I believe it is having an impact on me.

I am thinking of leaving but I have spent a lot of money and don't want to leave. I want someone opinion on what to do?

What kind of academic environment are you in? Secondary school or University? Are you being bullied by cultists, lecturers, or by your classmates?

A polytechnic. By mainly fellow students in the hostel and around the campus for my looks and that such kind of looks doesn't deserve to get what I want. This is the worst kind of bullying I have ever received. It has reduced my confidence and my ability to study. I used to be a programmer but they eventually spoilt my PC I believe. And you know I need to be okay to work with a PC especially Since I was interested in Algorithms and problem solving. I am not the same person I was before. This is the worst academic environment ever. I just wish I could leave and find my true self again

It's a psychological fact that you can't control the way other people behave towards you, but you can control how their behaviors make you feel.

Don't let their behaviors get to you, make good use of the energy, talk to a professional if you need assistance through the way.

The issue is that this level of bully is extreme. I am being threatened at the same time.. sometimes you would understand that in terms of the threat it might be a joke but before then the damage has already been done. Just because of all this I am having head tension and it's hard to study or read.
Like I don't trust anyone at all. It has also lead to panic attack and anxiety.

I don't know the level you are in the Polytechnic. But if you're staying in a school hostel. I see no reason why your hostel mates behavior towards you should get to you in the first place. They may be older than you but see them as your mates and don't ever allow any of them bully you in whatever form.

The only thing I can sense here is, if they are the noisy type and because of that you can't read or concentrate in your programming stuff. You can leave the room to either the library, reading room in the hostel, or a free space like a free lecture hall you can read. Hostel is a place you meet all kind of people, and I believe if you look deeply you may find someone who can help you out there.

If it's a private hostel (off-campus lodge) you can leave or look for a better place for your mental health. If it's school hostel you can try to see the good part of them (which I believe everyone has) but if they continue to bully you, report to the school management.

Right now, I am thinking of deferring my admission and taking a break. The whole thing has affected my productivity enormously. My mental health is most important to me.

Would I be able to come back when I am okay and start again without paying school fees even though I have spent around a semester plus?

Deferring your admission because of this isn't the best option, except there are other issues you don't want to disclose.

If you must defer, do that officially and follow the steps approve by your school.
If you just leave the school and think you can continue after a year or two, you may not be able to continue when you return back if you don't follow the approved steps by your school for deferment.

What type of bullying, is it physical or social or verbal?
If it's physical, I think you should report to the higher authorities, if it's verbal, in this Nigeria, you need it to grow tough skin.

.Be BOLD,refuse to be timid/WEAK. Face them.

Some people enjoy having problems. They believe those situations define them. I can give this person solid advice and he’d forget faster than a fart on a windy day. I’ve seen such happen many times on Nairaland. He’d then open this very thread a few months in the future only to disregard the advice many will waste time penning. Whenever he’s ready, there is good advice other members typed before this. I can’t come and kill myself.

Fight back, defend yourself by giving them the same measure of what ever they do to you.

There are several things in this life you just have to develop "Thick Skin" to & not allow to hurt or impede you.

guy stand on ur feet stronger and don't withdrew becos of this reasons, even the death corps are bullied despite that they are not more in existence, that is just human being for u, relocate urself to a conducive environment stay low key, change ur friends and ur thinking. Then come back for happy testimony on NL soonest.

Although you are right, but his studies should be his highest priority.
