Segzy19:neither the aworis nor the binis can lay claim to the entire Lagos, the aworis had their territory in Lagos the binis also had their territory, Lagos is a state just like osun, just like you have the Ooni of ife who governs the ife territory of osun state, there are also other traditional rulers in the same osun, you can't come today and claim the ancestors of the Ooni founded osun state they only founded ife, same can be said about Lagos and how you guys always try to make it look like the aworis controlled the entire Lagos, the binis also had their territory, which means the oba isn't wrong. 6 Likes |

jaymichael: Oba no collect, na una dey fool una selves, but you guys are so dumb to see that, you guys agreed that the BINIs settled in Lagos, you agreed the Benin tax other Lagos inhabitants, you agreed the bini started the oba dynasty in Lagos, you agreed the BINIs named Lagos Eko, which is the second name now, all these are validating the oba claim😂😂 Your only point is that the aworis settled in some parts of Lagos before the bini came, my question is who named it Lagos then If no be BINI found Lagos, na the Portuguese found Lagos na, since na them rename from Eko to Lagos😁😁😁 4 Likes 1 Share |

Everyone is just dancing round same drumbeat. What Oba of Benin had said and what Abisoye Oshodi had said were same. Those who were against it were just blabbing and seeking undie relevance The Oba was so honest about his statement, which in my opinion, everyone would've applauded him for instead of the unnecessary attack. He said not every part of lagos but the lagos island, which was called eko back then. The word Eko was even an edo word. Aworis occupied the lagos mainland, up to the Alimosho by extension. The fact is, there was no place called lagos back then but eko. The early settlers were the binis. They didn't go beyond that island space. Aworis didn't occupy the island called eko then and now lagos.. The mainland became lagos by extension. The areas were mainly occupied by the aworis not binis Oba akiolu was right when he tried to educate people like Abisoye Oshodi that the name oshodi never existed among yorubas. Oshodi which was originally known as oshodin is a bini word. The family only identified with lagos by adopting that name. Idumota, idunganran, idumagbo, iga, etc are all bini words. All the old obas of lagos bodies were always being taken to Benin to Bury until the tradition changed. Look at lagos chiefs apparel, oba of lagos apparel too...they're mainly white, both the apparel and caps reflect those seen on bini chiefs. Oshodi has no meaning in yoruba. Those bearing dosunmu too adopted that name, in order to identify with lagos and claim lagos. They were mainly from Ogun state. The correct word was Docemo, That said, that binis were first settlers of eko now lagos doesn't make binis owners of lagos or eko. It's yorubaland. End of story. 4 Likes 1 Share |

christistruth01:Ozuduwa or Oduduwa was a Bini prince dat migrated to Ife FROM BENIN! He became the ONI after defeating Obatala and uniting the 13 clans in IFE. He was the very first Oni. When he was sought back in Benin, he declined return and instead sent one of his grand children Oranmiyan to sort out the monarchical difficulties in the then Igodomigodo |
Re: Eko Founders’ Controversy: Academics, Olota, Lagos Chief Tackle Oba Of Benin by Iykenuwa(m): 9:58pm On Nov 29, 2023 |
christistruth01: Facts you can research: 1. Up till around 2013, the Lagos state official website stated clearly that Lagos was founded by the Benin Kingdom. 2. The origin of the Awori's: they were in Ife with Oduduwa in the palace and left Ife after his death to other places. Some versions say they actually came with Oduduwa to Ife and remained his closest companions: meaning, they most likely came from wherever Oduduwa came from originally. (Benin believe Oduduwa was their son, if that is correct, then that will explain why the Awori's received the people of Benin with open arms in Lagos.) 3. When Kosoko was dethroned by the British, some of his children and followers returned to Benin, and were offered a place to stay near the palace, that street is still in Benin today: Lagos street. They returned to Benin because they knew their origin, even the Oba of Lagos made this same claim a few years ago. 4. The Bajulaiye family in Lagos is an extension of the Bazuaye family in Benin, visit them and ask. 5. At the height of the Oyo Empire, its boundary with Benin was in Ekiti, meaning, places like Ekiti, Ondo etc, were all under Benin administratively. 6. Oranmiyan went to Ife because the people of Benin had gone to Ife to request that Oduduwa return home to rule after the demise of his father in Benin, but he refused saying he had already settled in Ife, and sent his own son, Oranmiyan instead. Oranmiyan went to Benin, had some difficulties, and left to found the Old Oyo Empire. He did not found Benin or its kingship, his Father Oduduwa was a Benin Prince. I will continue if you are able to refute any of the above with facts. 4 Likes |

With much love and deep respect for the king of Benin kingdom.... There's one thing that the king does not put into consideration before making his blind historically diabolical comments. The history had it that the Benins' are one of the descendants of Oduduwa and that they migrated from the Oyo empire with homage payment to the Oyo kingdom. What this mean is that, the Benin kingdom is an offshoot of Yorubaland. How come they came back to come and establish part the kingdom that gave birth to them? Also, I don't know what the king is out to benefit in his unverified and distorted history. Is there any kind of war of superiority between the Benins' and other parts of Yoruba land. To me, I think king needs to chase clout for relevance on social media. The king is not getting enough attention hence the need to fraudulently gain popularity overnight. He should contribute meaningfully to the society and use is good office to agitate for peace, unity and progress between different strata of the society. 1 Like |

tollyboy5: Thank you for this wonderful question Some of the Moba people Migrated to Ijebu long before Oduduwa was born We always knew that there were Aboriginal Ijebu around Lagos long before Oduduwa was born but they were not called Ijebu until around the 16th Century They were Originally part of the Moba kingdom That was why Awujale said the Ijebus were not of Oduduwa descent which is True for some Ijebu even though towns like Ijebu Ife are of direct Oduduwa descent For example Oore Otun Ekiti is of Non Oduduwa Moba kingship dynasty descent too It was he who told the first Owa Obokun of Ijesha to fetch water from the Moba Sea near Victoria Island today and that was what he used to cure Oduduwa's blindness |

just seeing this thread but i must contribute, the entire awori clan should look beyond money and consider intellectuals as king, we all know ifa does not pick anybody as king rather the state Government and afobajes act as the ifa. Same way i usually clamor for our people to look beyond money politics before electing our leaders. 1 Like |

waice6571:Since they fabricated the Izoduwa or Ekaladerhan story, Benins have been filled with unnecessary jealousy of Yorubas. All their stories defied logic and reasoning. Looking at their kingdom, Yoruba language, culture, practice etc dominated it with so much shame on them that they don't know the deep meaning of those words in their language, those practice or the history and ritual behind it. Yet they claim to be the owner. How can something you owned be more mastered by a stranger? That means it's either you lied or you failed in ya task 3 Likes 1 Share |
