I think you're missing the intent here.

Onome Ebi is free to do whatever she pleases - she could continue to play football till she's 90 years old, for all I care.

However, when it becomes a matter of trying to superimpose herself on the team, in order for her to actualize her own personal objectives (especially, at the expense of the Women's National team), that's when it becomes a problem.

It is grossly irresponsible of her to go around making snide remarks and complaining about being left out, when the direction of the country, as it pertains to the NWNT (SuperFalcons) is concerned, has been to refresh the team with young and exciting talent. She got a free pass to the WWC (when many, if not all, of her colleagues from the past, were disengaged from the NT - Okobi, Uncle Rita, Faith Ikidi come to mind). And when she stubbornly insists on being team captain, which is clearly and definitely NOT in consonance with the post-WWC direction of the team, that becomes a big issue, especially with us fans.

The intelligent thing to do is step away quietly, much like Uncle Rita and Faith Ikidi did and are being applauded for their mature actions. Those who insist on being immature (like Okobi and Mommy Onome), will be met with the vitriol they deserve. It is an honor and privilege to represent one's country and certainly NOT a right!

So you think every footballer should hang their national team boots once they clock 38 ? And if they don't they are bad person ?

You can't blame Onome unless you've a credible evidence she imposed herself on the team , she's right to be angry when she's not picked every footballers that want to represent their country does but it's left for the coaching crew to care about that or not

Fair enough.
However, there comes a point in time when you have to be able to read the tea leaves and be realistic with yourself.
Clearly, at 40+, she's definitely not a spring chicken and her better days are beyond her. Most serious clubs would rather invest in someone who's younger and has some useful mileage over the next couple of years (which explains why she couldn't get a club overseas to invest in her). Not to mention on the national team scene, where she fallen several pegs down the toting pole, behind the likes of Ohale, Plumptre and even Demehin, I might add.
The writing is clearly on the wall. She should have called it quits on the national front (especially with the fantastic performance the SF had in Au.Nz, when the ovation was loudest) and had her testimonial arranged - Randy would definitely have obliged her and the nation would have given her props and accolades. Now, her legacy would be tainted with abuse and disdain, especially when its obvious she is dragging the captainship, first with Oshoala and now Ajibade, all because of her selfishness and misguided belief of self entitlement. Real Sad!

In my opinion, if she still feels she can compete for a slot with Demehin and Plumptre, I see no problem there.

I would be upset if someone like Rita Chikwelu insists she wants to keep playing for instance, because even before the AWCON 2022, it was clear she couldn't compete in that role anymore.

I would still want Ebi in the mix with Demehin, Akuddo, Plumptre , and Ohale. We can then play friendlies and if Onome does better than Akuddo for instance, then why not?

Even if the coach is 'directed' to invite her? We all know Pinnick at the time pretty much forced Musa on Rohr and even was stupid enough to admit it.
It's not inconceivable that the NFF would try to use her as a bargaining chip - knowing how moronic the NFF chieftains are.

Omor this Opinion no join at all oo, Onome Ebi to compete with who?? Ashleigh Plumptre, Blessing Demehin? This two were already ahead of her in the pecking order going to the World Cup not now again, No amount of NWPL football she’s going to play that would make her seat out those two above.. Try watch Naija Ratels game and see for yourself…

Is time we let the Younger ones like Maureen Umeh, Akudo Ogbonna, Comfort and Co use that spot to gain experience and settle into the team…

Whatever Onome has to offer should come from the technical bench if she thinks she has something to offer, the U17, U20 team is also there…

There’s no experience there that Osinachi Ohale can’t offer in the Defense, She can continue Playing Club football as long as she likes but I can put it to you now that we have more Athletic Younger Center Backs that need to be integrated into the team, if we really need old Leg in the Defense I will rather clamor for 36yrs Faith Ikidi who’s still Playing at the highest Level in Sweden… I do stream their games occasionally and she’s still very good at that..

No matter how good she is, she definitely would not be as fast as expected in my opinion. Maybe she does something extra for the team but I'm surprised.

Exactly. I don't believe a player of her size should even be on any national team.

She isn’t that big sef apart from her Back side, by the way the likes of Emueje was very big and still played well for her Clubs and the SuperFalcons and her pace was by far better than some lanky players own…

Is it the same Onome that can't even run anymore, and is much less physically imposing? I wonder what miracle you are expecting her to perform at this time. Do you even care to know why she's been unable to secure a move abroad?

Abeg no mind them, the pace of the modern game is increasing by the day.. No good Coach will dare bench Ohale or Plumptre or Demehin for her…

The Leadership and Communication skills is still there for Onome but let’s say the truth in terms of Physicality, Strong Tackles, Aerial ability and Positioning which are some of the most important attributes of a centre back are no longer there at 70% sef,.. Her reaction is definitely poor now in terms of meeting strong, fast and Skillful forwards..

Onome will definitely be run down by the likes of Banda, Chawinga, Graham Hansen, Kerr and James right now. Make she rest and go into Coaching if she so much love the game..

I think we've come to that junction where another Falcon player should start getting the vibes that sets them up for the caf and fifa limelights by individual performance.

Oshoala has really helped CAF on the global stage. Almost like no other player wants to second her or outperform her, not even in our own camp.

Those two have tried but we need even one or two from our own camp. The time is now.
