On Friday, March 1, 1963 @TIME Magazine wrote of Nigeria thus:

"Held together in uneasy federation, the country numbered some 250 tribes and languages, three principal religions (Moslem. Christian, animist), and three big, traditionally hostile regions: the feudal, Moslem North, which claims half the entire population of Nigeria; the East, dominated by the astute, industrious Ibo tribes; and the West, richest and most advanced of all three, whose Yoruba tribesmen are Nigeria's most sophisticated citizens. As big as Texas and Oklahoma combined, with some 45 million inhabitants—give or take 10 million—Nigeria seemed less a nation than a concatenation, a haphazard creation of British colonists who ruled it for 60 years and dubbed it the "white man's grave."

Thank you for sharing. This is Reno Omokri's latest free education service to those who came to Lagos years later and thought Lagos is for sale. Lagos has never been for sale wink

63 years after, the Yoruba is still the richest, most advanced and the most sophisticated in Nigeria and Africa.

Like the offshoot of the dorminant Yoruba political movement (Egbe Omo Oduduwa/Action Group) that now has a strong political alliance with its then political adversary Northern region, and today has the coveted prize of Nigeria's Presidency, other tribes have made some progress too ,especially in the East where unclothedness has been significantly abolished https://archive.org/details/amongibosofniger00basd/page/223/mode/1up?ref=ol&view=theater and in the North where more female children now has access to western education.

smileyYear 1963..

Yoruba were selling cocoa and the north still has its groundnut pyramid..

These people just love to live in the past.. and celebrate the past more than the present ..

Why ?

Because the present Yoruba has nothing to take home .. majority of them has disowned and abandoned their Woden 1963 houses in ekiti ogun oyo ondo osun and will quickly deny ever coming from those bushes ..
ask them... I be lagosian ... grin

I mean year 2020.. talk more 2023...

Maybe we have to keep reminding Reno the daft that .. “ I GET AM BEFORE NO BE PROPERTY..

Today SOUTH SOUTH “ is the richest region in Nigeria and feeds the country..
Next to that is the EAST.. he loves to hate .. and which Yoruba people sees their women as TROPHY .. that must be won on merit .. even after bad mouthing and blackmail.. they simply sneak back to as promise and beg Amaka..

Next is the North that is still feeding Nigeria through it Agricultural products

Today Yoruba has taken that back seat and only fund their economy by skull minning and internet fraud.. which they glorify even down to their cutltural music

Sophisticators has been replaced by m.c Olumo and his Alaye and Owmida crertians .. not talking about the level of cultism and killing .. basically for ritual purposes ..

A Yoruba man today will look his fellow Yoruba in the eyes .. while begging for his life in Yoruba language still butchered like animal just to increase igr on paper .. human life has no meaning ..

These are not qualities of a sophisticated region in 2023

Times has changed Me Reno the dunce ...

Stop living in 1960’s

Life has moved on ...

Even the Akwaibom of 90’s has become more developed and civil than the Yoruba states of ogun oyo osun ondo ekiti of 2023

Yoruba should be very a shame of this kind of article

But no!!!

They mastusbate and celebrate their yesterday .. instead of today

What’s actually wrong with this people?

Na waaaa...

I am not suprised at this news.

The South West always leads. Even till date, the SW has even become more advanced than the others; hence, the rush and desire to move to the SW, especially the migration from the SE Eastern region.

People move over to advanced region and regions of economic prosperity.

SW is still the richest and most prosperous.

If only we continued with regionalism, the West will comfortably have a GDP of over $1tn now and will be comparable to the best cities in Europe

Even from 1999, the SW has had the most progressive leaders. It’s in our DNA and the coup planned by the children of hate for the progress of the West, pulled the country back

They suffered for their atrocities and their recent incursion into the politics of the West will end in premium tears for them

Anyone who can reason can tell the West of God’s favorite side

You’re certainly not alright

Yorubas dominate the following businesses in Nigeria - fashion, music, tech, education, banking, construction, poultry, cash crops and engineering. So how would describe them as impoverished?

The only thing the Ibos dominate is trade which is not development in any sense

Hausas dominate transportation, cattle farming, food crops and textiles which are more value addition to any society

No body ever said yorubas wasn't ahead in the 1940s to 60s

The eastern Region projected to catch up with western region by 1970 it accepted it was below western region

There is no shame in starting late
Even in the eastern Region ijaws and efik started before others

Never truly accepted the white man till the 1920s ... We are not ashamed of it

Some few Igbo society have had advanced history but not the whole Igbo land

But we are not ashamed of starting late

Today Igbo are at least as educated as yorubas if not more educated

If you think this is an insult then try again

When they say ibos are industrious, you cannot be running after vehicles under hot sun selling gala and not be industrious. Being industrious simply means that they sabi labour work, no wonder dey carry yam leg. Even to dey chop strong akpu na labour work.

That Azikiwe no try at all o...

What was he even thinking?

Does he think the igbos will benefit more than other regions if Nigeria remain indivisible?

It was selfish interest and greed. He was meant to form a coalition with other southern parties. He thought he could outsmart the Northerners who people believed were backwards and easy to manipulate. He was outsmarted instead and got a ceremonial presidential position while the North got the powerful Prime Minister position. We were running a parliamentary system during that era.

If you read the whole article. I would edit my post and include the link, the Northerners were thought to be primitive. However, the Westerners know that the Northerners were actually very politically smart. They have had relations and businesses with them for centuries. Ilorin fell for that reason about 150 years prior.
