Was it the APC govt of Kenya and India that made GSK to leave those countries as well? The ones that cannot buy knockoff will import GSK from UK

There are many factors that will affect many countries that is not related to APC, UTC or CNN party they voted

A bad government is a bad government. Doesn't matter if its Kenya or India.

Why are you not mentioning that the same GSK is still in Egypt, Algeria e.t.c. What are they doing differently? Are they not also third world countries like Nigeria?

GSK has standard and their prices cannot come lower, The Indian Lebanese competitiors can do what GSK cannot to sell for lower

GSK has a brand name to protect
Same thing he izzou is saying.

If we had a good economy..dollar rise we have no impact in our purchasing power,Hence GSK will not be complaining of low patronage...

If dollar was #200....do you think they would be thinking of compromising in other to get fair sales

Many will follow. We have gotten to the period when they all start crashing down. Anyone who has money in all these funny places should better withdraw it before it's too late.

I am tempted to believe those who always u’ve money with those funny/wonder banks are people who did not genuinely sweat to make their money . Because I just can’t understand why anybody in his right senses will leave normal commercial banks that are partially protected by NDIC and then keep their money with those funny banks .

Is it ignorance or they bewitched them ?

Even normal commercial banks , if u have 100m deposited with them and the bank fails ; NDIC will only pay u 500k which is the Maximum insured sum they can guarantee .

Person go come dey out money for one nonsense Gomoney that u don’t even know if NDIC can even guarantee #20k to give u if they liquidate …. Smh

Lets pick any of these countries Egypt and Algeria and we will realize they are much richer in Income per head than Nigeria when you consider their yearly budget / their population you will see that beside Nigeria they are very rick and despite that, they have their own foreign companies leaving as well. If you can read Arabic or French which is the media language in Algeria you will see similar news. They didnt vote APC

They’ve been temporarily shutting down local operations and evacuating staff, with everyone from Turkish textile manufacturers to GM and Electrolux taking a break from the unsettled nation.

“If the cost of doing business is greater than what you make, then of course you stop doing business,” says David Nyheim, the chief executive of International Conflict and Security Consulting.

After Mohamed Morsi became president last year, taxes on business were hiked, corporate registration rules were tightened, electricity shortages cut power for several hours a day; the government even contemplated shutting down the airport for four hours a day to save on energy costs. All that had many companies reluctant to do more than keep current operations running.

“Coke was suddenly like, ‘oh my God, we have to fire half our staff;’ people making not even 600 Egyptian pounds a month, not a hundred dollars a month,” says a Cairo-based consultant who asked not to be identified for her safety. “These irrational decisions on taxes and on legal procedures made it very difficult for companies to actually make projections.”

1 Dollar is 153 Kenyan shilling yet companies including GSK are leaving Kenya due to the same reason low patronage

I was going to say the same thing. Why do people work so hard to make money and dash it out to scammers? I can't wrap my head around it. The human mind is so complex. People do things that you sometimes just can't explain. And this one will still not teach them a lesson. Many others will still fall victim before the end of the year.

Even as Opay, moniepoint and the likes are fully licensed by the CBN to operate as MFBs, I can't put any serious money in them talk more of go money.

The #200 per dollar is just an instance.....

They pointed out they were leaving due to low patronage wch was never the case b4 now.

Economy has collapsed and dollar has risen to all time high,we as Nigerians depends on dollar even more than the Naira.

If it was #200 per dollar I believe d patronage wouldn't have crumbled, rather we still would have had GSK due to fair patronage...

As for Kenya,I don't know much about their dependence on dollar neither am I aware of shillings to dollar b4 now.......but either way,a crumbling Economy will discourage patronage of more expensive product except in a very important scenarios...this definitely will affects the sales of products, cos people will go for the closest substitute irrespective of the products stronghold....

It has been debunked .

The author of that tweet delibrately misinformed people . There’s a particular exclusive azul which the company produces just 100 pieces of it yearly . It’s one of their products but very pricey which costs thousands of pounds .

U know just like Ciroc having a particular variant that is exclusive and reserved for the classy guys.

Na the author of the tweet wey wan catch trips just dey misinform people .

It would never come. The closest we had to that time coming was the EndSARS protests which morphed into an anti-misgovernance revolt days later.
But like all things Nigerian, the fault lines of ethnicity, religion, and partisanship were triggered, and soon enough the hitherto unified call for accountablity drifted apart like continental plates.
Straight outta furnace.

Talk that talk, bro.

They haven't learnt how pointless it is arguing with these devious supporters of misgovernance.

See when Joe asks for a debate and I instead troll him with unrelated issues like being drunk or something? It's because I know it's pointless engaging in any intellectual Nigerian sociopoliticoeconomic discourse with such people. They know the truth but will troll.

The real clowns are those in Nigeria affected by Tinubu's misgovernance yet defending him. Once they exit their browsers, there are pending messages of unsettled bills waiting for them on WhatsApp which would stretch their financial reserve. Reality is the real nemesis. That is my consolation. smiley

You said Egypt and Algeria have a higher income per head than Nigeria. Isn't that also an indictment on the government?

And your other response as to why GSK has remained in Egypt and Algeria is that other companies are also leaving. I wish they were coming to into Nigeria as they are leaving Egypt.

I always thought banks pay the full amount in case of failure?
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by raumdeuter: 9:22pm On Dec 12, 2023
Years of prodigious borrowing abroad has left Egypt with heavy foreign debt and a shortage of the hard currency needed to buy essential commodities.

Disbursements in a $3 billion financial support package from the International Monetary Fund signed in December 2022 were halted after Egypt fell behind on its pledge to adopt a flexible exchange rate, as well as pull the state and the military back from their dominant position in the economy.

Priced out of global debt markets, the government has financed a widening deficit by expanding domestic borrowing at a time when interest rates have been surging both domestically and abroad, leading to even bigger deficits.

For where? It's just that the banking industry is well regulated. These days, once CBN notices signs of distress, they will sack the board and handover the bank to a caretaker like they did to Skye bank before it eventually turned to polaris.

Not at all.

When bank liquidates , the first set of people that will get compensated are the creditors of the bank followed by those who hold preference shares. If at that time money no dey again to share to anybody ; e don be for any other stakeholder be that .

Now that’s where NDIC comes in; NDIC will pay a Maximum of N500k to u for the funds u have with the bank as a customer and that’s the end . Cos the N500k is the Maximum NDIC can guarantee they can pay on behalf of the bank if it fails .

But don’t fret , NDIC and CBN through their risk based supervision of banks have made it almost impossible for banks to fail post 2005 bank consolidation exercise . ( Just like itsrm pointed out ) . Instead make bad thing happen , rain go fall .

Before a bank fails CBN would’ve seen it miles ahead and they would’ve stepped in . It’s one of the reasons AMCON was established ; if not for
AMCON banks like FBN, UBN etc would’ve failed due to their bad debts wey people like Oba Otudeko , Ben Bruce and the likes dey owe them.

Microfinace banks are insured to the tune of 200k , while commercial banks are insured up to the tune of 500k by NDIC .

So if everywhere red and yawa gas, the maximum u will get back from ur account with a micro finance bank listed by NDIC after the bank fails is 200k with proper documentation o.

PS: I don’t know what they categorize Opay and the rest under o; but dem no fit big pass micro finance and commercial banks
