You should be asking why all the Southerners that got licence for refineries did not start them up. Like Oriental refinery, for example.

The answer is, subsidy made it unprofitable for them to do refineries. Only people who could do refinery under subsidy regime was Dangote, and that is because Dangote has the sources of income that would enable him to do collateral with the banks that lent him money.

When some of us say subsidy should go, it was partly because we wanted more people to be able to take loans to build more refineries...since now subsidy is gone, the potential for profit means that banks would lend them money easily. But most of you Nigerians no wan hear. Na cheap fuel we want.

And it isn't just Southerners, many Northern refineries...must it be only Dangote from the North? There are others, but because of subsidy, dem no wan do refinery too.

Sometimes, some 'harsh' decisions are for our benefit. But we said no, so here we are.

I'm even not surprised Dangote is favoruing his own people. Na his private business. Plus, if I was a Northern governor, I would be putting pressure on him to employ our people. If he was from the South, I would have expected the same thing. The problem is subsidy made fuel refining so unprofitable in this country that potential Southern refinery tycoons could not do business.

I don talk my own.
I believe it's thesame reason Dangote is taking his time with PMS production because there is some form of reduced subsidy at the moment.

So it seems Dangote wants to sell Diesel and Aviation fuel first where there's no subsidy at all.

Exactly. There is still a subsidy on PMS...which is why he is taking his time.

Government meanwhile is pretending there isn't,,,lol.

Why are they still flaring gas?

This is happening for two reasons : 1. The price of domestic gas must be maintained.
2. Southwest must have its own share of air pollution and attendant health effects .

Let's pray it leads to price reduction in diesel that it's starting with
That's what it would most likely lead to due to availability.

Dangote did the smart thing here. He is starting with Diesel and Aviation fuel because there's no subsidy at all there. With PMS, Government had to keep the price around 600 even though exchange rate have been hovering around 1000 to a dollar and crude price is around 80 dollars per barrel.

A gas flare, alternatively known as a flare stack, flare boom, ground flare, or flare pit, is a gas combustion device used in places such as petroleum refineries, chemical plants and natural gas processing plants, oil or gas extraction sites having oil wells, gas wells, offshore oil and gas rigs and landfills.

Flare stack at the Shell Haven refinery in England
In industrial plants, flare stacks are primarily used for burning off flammable gas released by safety valves during unplanned overpressuring of plant equipment.[1][2][3][4][5] During plant or partial plant startups and shutdowns, they are also often used for the planned combustion of gases over relatively short periods.

At oil and gas extraction sites, gas flares are similarly used for a variety of startup, maintenance, testing, safety, and emergency purposes.[6] In a practice known as production flaring, they may also be used to dispose of large amounts of unwanted associated petroleum gas, possibly throughout the life of an oil well.[7][/quote]

If you were a businessman, and you were selling yam you bought from farmer at N1500 per tuber, will you sell that same tuber at N200 per tuber to help the poor breathe? To help the masses breathe?

You will not, because your business will die.

Dangote needs to pay salaries(at the rate that his workers would not jakpa), pay taxes, pay for crude at international prices, pay for maintenance costs, etc etc. Expecting him to do all that and then sell fuel at N200 per liter because of the masses is a big joke.

Businesses are not charities. They exist to make profits, and to make more profits. They do not care about the masses, because if they let the masses set their prices, they would crash. If the masses were allowed to set MTN and Airtel prices, they would crash well well.

Hopefully, it would reduce the pressure on dollars, and hopefully this means the cost of transporting fuel falls. But the era of cheap fuel is over. NNPC is even now a private company self.

The funny thing is people will call me oppressor now. Ok. If a business cannot set its prices, how would it make profit for shareholders and workers? Shebi government go pay am? Lol.

You don't get it do you, who owns the natural resources his refining, is it no Nigeria, bro the price of fuel should drop to like 150# or 200# per liter. We really need to wake up in the country oo.

People at Eleme will tell you how hot their place is once refinery is working. The fact that people are there is because that refinery has not been producing for sometime. Normally people should stay far from refineries.
Then why are we calling for local refinery? Let's kuku continue importing Petrol because refinery is hot

From crude oil?

Gas can come from crude oil. However, this is not gas flare but the usual pilot burning required in all form of refinery start ups.

But actually the common man's main problem is availability not price.
No matter how expensive it will be the fact that it's always readily available is of great benefits to the common man who rely heavily on it to make a living
What are you saying? Do you have any idea how much any increment in price of petroleum products especially fuel affects market prices of consumer goods.

Nope....
I am happy. Just the fact that Nigerians are going through a lot already. Dangote is a shroud capitalist who doesn't like Lagosians enough.
Otedola just gave 1 billion yesterday to Lagos security fund. Why would Dangote not give too ?
Last time he gave Jobs to Engineering graduates mainly from his core Northern people only. What of other Southern Engineering graduates who own the land and better qualified?
Across the country, Dangote trailers kill Southerners like rats every time with zero justice ⚖️ for the dead. He singlehandedly destroyed our roads with his heavy haulage of cements Across Southern regions.
Can an Igbo business man try all these and still remain standing?

This was debunked very clearly so it comes as a shocker that you are still bandying such lies about. Meanwhile, do you want to tell me that Innoson doesn't employ Igbos as the majority of his employees?

Your entire post is filled what lies and its so sad that you harbour so much bitterness against his one man. Is it Dangote's fault that the roads are bad??

You mean you want Dangote as a man to bear the responsibility for individual drivers who kill southerners in road traffic accidents, as if that is what he sent them to do, when even those drivers may be southerners themselves? What a pity tribalism has reduced you to this.

Dangote has given so much back to this country but your eyes will be blind to it.

It is terrible to lie against someone all because you have a weird agenda!

that means goverment is already tryin to pay subsidy for you through dangote if he keeps the deal....

but i doubt if its realy that case....
nigerian goverment sellin to a indigenous refiner would make sense because nigeria is havin issues sellin crude in international market....

we are hearin news that nigeria is havin issues sellin their crude....
I think we can bring back subsidy with this method. We sell enough Crude to Dangote and local refineries in dollars and then we keep a fixed price of 350 naira for the masses.

The dollar is not wasted because the local refiners like Dangote and NNPC (through PH refinery) would still convert some dollars to naira for their local operations
