As it stands one does not only need to know what his or her neighbor stores in the house, but needs to be willing to take the bold step of blowing whistle if it’s something that can harm u.

I’ve watched videos of some of he victims whose houses were affected . It appears they know those guys storing the explosives . The victims in the interviews were saying it boldly on camera that those Guys are foreigners who use dynamites for their mining job.

Imagine knowing they bring the explosives to the house and they never raised alarm a major tragedy happened and effected their own house now . How government wan take know if dem no raise an alarm ?

the average nigerian has zero concept of basic safety and also a complete disregard for safety in general
i regularly see tanker drivers smoking beside tankers full of product
as for drivinhg, it is only in lagos people wear seatbelts - and this even includes road safety

driving safety is one of my pet peeves because you will see nigerians put thier children in thr front seat. you will see mothers put babies in the front seats of cars - sometimes the children will sit with them in the drivers seat

so i will not be suprised if the average nigerian does not know or care that explosives are controlled /regulated substances

nigerians only proactiveness is in saying a petrol station should not be sited in a location - which for me is partially misguided. a fuel station or gas plant is safe as long as it is deigned and operated accoording to standard [of course there again is where nigerians come in, esp for all these independent mush room operators.]

You sound like you have been to Ebonyi.

Absolutely NOBODY wears seatbelt here. I am starting to think it is a law that was passed. I have never seen a private car with the driver properly belted.

And me, I feel very uncomfortable seeing someone drive without a belt; that's why i hardly seat at the front of any local commercial vehicle.

There are a whole lot wrong with us as a people . For starters we worship foreigners.

I was somewhere around Odeku Junction in V.I recently and I saw a foreigner ( don’t know his nationality but he was white ) on the steering wheel and he was smoking while driving . He was right in front of the LASTMA controlling traffic at Odeku Junction and nobody seem to care if he was smoking or not.

Then I remember the Lagos traffic law Sanwoolu passed that actually criminalizes smoking , eating and drinking on the wheels; but none of the LASTMA officers were interested in enforcing this law at that moment. I just knew if the guy was a normal Nigerian without escort or having his plate number covered, they would’ve swooped on him and most likely Jack his vehicle to be towed .

As regards that seatbelt matter , even here in Lagos people look at me with one kind eye when they see me wear my seatbelt within the estate .It appears as if there’s an unwritten rule that when u are about hitting the express is the time u wear u seatbelt and not while u are driving in a known terrain 🤦‍♂️

Many of them in US depend on H1B work visas and its easy to use that to hold them for blokus. Without that incentive they are just as bad as anyone

They also do a lot of parapo. If you have Indians in your class in school you will know this
There is no level of dagbo wey dem no dey do but they have this innocent mien that makes people assume they are innocent
There is no exam in this world that Indians will not dagbo, whether its board exams or certifications or school exam.
I once saw a new some years ago that Canada caught some Indians with fake IELTS

If you go on "Blind" app and see people complaining about Indians for workplace you will see that a big percentage of them are just dagbo merchants. They also have their own NCANN too, Its not uncommon for something bad to happen and another Indian will claim its the Telugu people ruining their name

This academic dishonesty trait is much worse than you have presented it. India is the world's headquarter for predatory journal publishing.

They prey on early-career researchers and other desperate academics and lure them to pay, sometimes very heavily, to publish studies that do not go through the standard peer review processes.

Many of these publications go on to pollute the research ecosystem because of the unchecked, disjointed and fallacious claims made by the authors, who in many instances even fabricate the data they've used. Imagine the chaos of relying on an article's finding to conclude on something or for further experimentations, when the data for such article is non-existent. Just read this: https://www.science.org/content/article/predatory-publishers-gain-foothold-indian-academia-s-upper-echelon

I receive an average of 10 spam mails everyday from Indian publishers inviting me to a either publish in an issue or chair a conference. Its tiring. I'm happy that many institutions (though only a few in Nigeria) are beginning to raise the bar for their academics, by demanding they only publish in journals managed by reputable publishers (Elsevier, Wiley, Taylor and Francis, Sage, Nature, Springer, BMJ etc.), which are typically indexed in reputable databases like SCOPUS and Web of Science.

As sizeable percentage of the most notorious, brash, and corrupt politicians at the very top in Nigeria are, ironically, lawyers. Nobody flaunts the law like them.

Wike, FFK, Keyamo, Lai Mohammed,Fashola, Akpabio, Gbajabiamila, Seriake Dickson, e.t.c.

We might make a case for the last four not being brash, but they are just as corrupt. The first four? Anything goes and there's nothing is too ridiculous to say or do.

Including the henchmen who burn down HOA quarters and other vices. It's worse at state level.

https://www.instagram.com/reel/C2NvbXIM3hW/?igsh=aGVmZmJ6bGJzNXVq

Seyi Makinde knows more than he is letting on. He has deliberately not named the mining company. He has also not said what it is they are mining. Were they mining in Ibadan? Or was the house a way station?

He has also not said categorically what it was that was stored and exploded.

I am trying to understand why a mining company would have their operations office in a residential area. Seyi Makinde is trying to throw the community under the bus for not reporting this.

Edit - I have read that there are some mining operations going on in Ibadan. It seems there are a lot of undocumented and clandestine solid minerals
exploitation going on with the tacit approval of the state governments

I also fault the community members for not voicing out when they see their neighbors storing explosives in residential premises. There's a Yoruba proverb that roughly translates " when ur housemate is eating something that is not edible and u don't warn/stop him, certainly the repercussion of his action will definitely deprive u of sleep when the night time comes"

I also believe Makinde knows more than what he's willing to divulge at the moment. He's using native wisdom to manage whatever his investigation may have unraveled thus far.

I read that normally it's DSS that approves for any company or individual to have access to dynamites legally. But we all know a lot happens in this country with people bypassing the legal routes to achieve things. If indeed the company is one registered to carry out mining activities, then they need to reveal what they have been mining all these years, who are their Nigerian promoters, customers and how they don't store their dynamites in the mining site but in their residential premises

The first port of call is local govt - but local govts are typically thoroughly compromised.

All the rubbish you see in lagos starts with local govts collecting egunje and looking away. It is when state govt via regulatory bodies get involved that enforcement may take place.

Yes, the community members should've called state controlled regulatory bodies na. In Lagos people call LASEPA when their neighbors industrial grade generators release fumes into their compound, when clubs, churches and mosques constitute environmental pollution etc.

If people can call government agencies to report noise pollution, why will somebody now overlook something as dangerous as storing explosives in residential premises?

I remember during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, people were basically snitching on their neighbors for congregating in large numbers, organizing parties and even holding church services because people know those neighbors pose serious risk to their own well being.
