This thing is abundant everywhere.

Even people who do business; how many earn 600k monthly? Yet, they are okay.

I am surprised this is a serious debate here, and that is why i believe i am among the rich.
Lol... It's really surprising tho.

Na person pikin wey don chop belleful go dey think about compact and other luxuries

If you get up to 10hrs of electricity per day on average, it still pays for itself within 6 months tops, and that's with you using it alone...if you con get persons you fit share the subscription with, cause it's unlimited, it pays itself off in even less time. How many hrs you dey on gen per day?

Is it truly unlimited or is there some fair use bs clause?
Also sharing isp with neighbours can be.... Iffy.

Na poverty and Spartan lifestyle you dey live

Are you buying data of 50k?
Are you buying fuel of 60k?
What about miscellaneous? Is it up to 100k
Black tax nko? It should be 235k

Nothing wey person no go read grin
black tax 235k grin you no well.

But seriously there are certain situations that will come up and gulp more than that amount from black tax. It depends on who that person is and what the problem is.

This isn't about being wealthy. It's about acknowledging it's your responsibility...and in such situation, you will be one of the first in line to be reached out to. And due to the recent realities, it will pain you that the money you used to comfortably survive on can no longer shoulder these responsibilities easily like in the past when such black tax might have been around 50k instead of 235k... as a result of inflation.

it's not pay as you go like MTN and likes and their data isnt rolled over incase of expiration before using it all.. so it makes no sense that I won't be getting maximum use of it..

I still feel some are not necessary (personally my opinion). There are some luxuries some people might see as necessity.

What is one doing with DStv compact if it'll have strain on your budget for example?

That's luxury if you ask me
You buy GOTV grin

This is where cut your coat come in. But for some one who was once easily subbing DSTV and suddenly couldn't afford it due to high cost of thing, it means surviving on 600k is now tough. That's prospers point.

This same analogy goes for everyone, including Otedola.

What he could do with 1 billion last 2 years, cannot be done today.

600k can take care of a family in Lagos, Abuja, PH, Maiduguri and anywhere in Nigeria, depending on how they cut their coat.

I really don't see the need to agree, and then draw up a list to disagree.

There's a reason the "CUT YOUR COAT" is there.

If you're giving Kids base foods to take to school, why still giving them snacks??
I still feel it's a luxury for the kids to be honest.
I see some kids bring that to school (food plus snacks) and one thing I know is common while growing up, they were very Rich family kids

Family Data? What does that mean.?

If it's mobile internet family subscription. That's the first time I'm hearing it too.

If a child is old enough to have a phone, then he's old enough to save at least to sub for his own data.

All these things to me a expenses for Rich families that are really luxury. Necessities aren't all these things na.

Only rich kids take snacks to school ? I don't agree o; even kids who attend public schools still take bobo juice and biscuit to school along with their lunch. If u don't a child snack do u want him to beg from his mates?

mobile internet means the normal data u subscribe to like Smile, Ntel, swift and the likes which u make use of anytime u are at home. U use for ur Smart TV, office work u brought home or personal surfing of the internet. Except u are saying u don't owe urself internet connectivity while in ur own home.

Please point out more luxuries in the list

37,500 per month.

Tey keep saying the things there are luxury and I'm struggling to see how it's luxury. Jodera say instead of DSTV/GoTV, make d papa dey download film instead...no be money for data be that, or maybe na those 360p videos wey na only phone you fit see wetin dey go on...or maybe office data. There's ways around some of these things sha, or maybe the kids just don't watch TV, and you go for fairly used books and old newspapers as form of entertainment...maybe.

Nobody has really been able to prove anything on the list is luxury aside DSTV. Even the DSTV, if u are a football lover u may end up spending so much data in a month on streaming matches & downloading videos than u will actually spend if u sub DSTV

Sharing with neighbours is somehow, but if they're reasonable people it makes sense, so far I don't know of any fair use thing with it...a friend of mine that's a heavy user, has shown me daily use stat of up to 1TB, and there was no throttling or anything. There's fair use clause, but that's for people in need of extreme speeds, talking like downloads of up to say 500mb/s or even more, after which it falls back to regular levels...when I have serious downloads, games or movies, the 100-200mb/s speed is more than sufficient, and there's nothing like keeping downloads for middle of the night, you can do heavy downloads round the clock.

My uncle have one of his neighbours he normally tips for him to do night plan and download films for his kids. And with just 200#, the guy download films 480p, and the 200# will yield like 5-7 films, depending. Now this kids watch the downloaded films during the weekend and he does it like twice a week(sometimes once a week sef). It surely means for a month he's spending #1600 for 20-28 collections of films.

Tell me why these kids will lack weekend films in the laptop and tell me why this Man isn't prudent enough?

I'm not saying every parents must do this, just showing you that there are ways to cut down on this Gotv/DStv stuff for kids.

What he did in the list is make provisions towards each expenses on a monthly basis irrespective of whether u pay it monthly, quarterly or annually.

I noticed u have issues about the DSTV , but u didn't say anything about the black tax. Do u think it's fair to send just N15k to one's parent out of N600k ?
That's why i didn't have issues with the black tax because that's purely confidential
IMO 15k is way too small, dstv is never a value for money

The reason I worry about sharing is if your neighbor is doing dodgy stuff. You are all on the same ip. Like one time I was helping a friend update his pc and next thing I found pictures and files that were definitely yahoo boy material. He had lent his laptop to his junior brother doing NYSC. He did not even know the files were there. Now imagine if that guy was a victim of those naija police nepa official home invasion.

Subbing DStv is luxury. When they say cut your coat according to your coat, it simply means cut down on Luxuries. Nobody go die if dem no sub DStv sef whether compact or not are there are different forms of entertainment.

Prosper case of 600k would be valid if the 600k can't take care of NECESSITIES of the family again or it'll be very difficult to take of the necessities no matter the cut. But If it can, then Cut it. And that's what most families in Nigeria are doing (Which is Iz.zou point so far)

That's why I was asking for other luxurious items on the list cos if we knock off the N14k for DSTV we all agreed as luxury, we can always add it to the N15k black tax to make N30k (if we add extra 1k to it).

So to a large extent his list is still reasonable.

Owing salary is out of the equation bro, we're talking of ideal situation like you getting 600k monthly.

My point is that even with the side gigs, he won't meet up 600k. There are sometimes the money might be delayed or sort but once it comes, he'll settle everything.

But the important point is that the basic necessities of the family including medical necessity (like little illness or injury) he's able to provide for it.

You currently spend 160K on data per month, in the next 6 months, you'd have spent 960K.

if you choose to go Starlink, last I saw, it goes for 420-440K, let's say 440K.

440K (starlink) + 60K (installation) + 228K (6 months subscription) + 39K (30K for 200GB mtn plan + 1.5K topoff monthly for rollover) = 767K for 6 months.

The MTN plan is for when you need to step out, or when NEPA takes light.

16hrs per day na enjoyment o.

65k a month for rent because you maybe, you live in Ogba and work in Ikeja

But someone can still pay 35k a month, and live in Alagbole, which is still close to Ogba and Ikeja.

People still live in Badagry and Agbara and pay 350k a year, and are earning 1 million sef.

Let us just pretend that we are cutting our coat, by living in Surulere and Yaba.

The bolded, I see it as something new gen z upbringing sha. In our family we don't do it and even while growing up, I nor my siblings weren't exposed to such sha and we didn't see any big deal in that. But no matter how we want to look at it, it's still luxury. It's just one of those luxury instilled as necessity by most parents. Just as some people can't do without having/subbing DStv in their home because they think it's necessity.

As for the others, aside personal surfing which I use on my phone, most of the others is just once in a while and it's not most families that have this home internet sef. Average Nigerian family man doesn't have smile or swift at home in this our obodo naija. As for Smart TV... Lol, that's really luxury. Except one have it before cos he's once Rich, what would make a family man earning like let's say 200k have smart TV when he can buy normal wall Lcd TV?
