Jodera: I believe we are talking about a middle-class family and not an extremely poor family na. Smart TV was still around N350k before Buhari left. That is not expensive, even civil servants can afford to get them via membership of co-operative societies. If someone earning 600k cannot use Smart Tv, then who can afford it then? As regards the snack, u would not want ur child to beg other kids because u are being principled or frugal. Snacking is something almost every kid does. U can't just go zero on snacking if u don't want ur child to be begging other kids or worse still, steal from others. Na ur pikin teacher sef go advise u to try dey give the pikin if at all bobo and coaster biscuit make other pikin for rest 1 Like |

CAPdan21:So you agree you buy data abi...good. How much do you spend on data per month? I don't disagree that the budget can be streamlined, but the person living on that 480K per month can't be said to be living a life of luxury either, especially while running a family of four in Lagos. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 5:12pm On Feb 09 |
BlueRayDick:These guys are prepared to send us to Nigeria of 2003 just to advance this live within your budget narrative. LCD TVs have been pretty normal since like 2008 and almost 20 years later it's still supposed to be seen as a staple. 1 Like |

Prospa posted a cup of rice for #400 a couple pages ago, assuming a family of four feeds on four cups of rice and water alone each day for one month, that's 48k already, yet 150k per month on food for a family of four is seen as luxury. Rice sef fit still be luxury. 2 Likes |

Theflint1: Na thunder go fire APC. Look at how this argument has gone on for pages. 600k a month salary before APshit would have made you conveniently fly to any country of your choice for vacation as long as you have visa. You could easily buy a brand new Nissan(cost about 3m then) Now we are debating whether 600k will last one month 1 Like |

The fact that you have to draw a list to counter what you are agreeing on is funny Does everyone around you from family, church, neighbourhood, etc earn above 600k? Obviously No. Are they all begging you for money and look tattered? Obviously no. So wetin be all these measurements and grading? You peg rent for 65k, but someone is living in Epe and maybe paying 25k, and still earns his 600. Some don't even have cars, and earn 600 Just cut your coat and it will work. Wetin be TV and Rice inside? |

Jodera: They told me in my sons school he was always looking at his classmates when they munch their snacks and advised we also buy for him. I had no choice. Is it really luxury? What alternative do I have. Tell him not to look at them when they eat? |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 5:38pm On Feb 09 |
Itsrm:The alternative is you take your kids to a school where the majority of children don't munch on snacks, that way you'd most likely be saving on school fees, and your son won't have anybody munching on snacks to look at. |

Itsrm: Don’t mind Jodera . As if we all didn’t have classmates whose are known for begging . As a parent u definitely won’t want ur child to be in such position and u will do everything possible to make not develop such bad habits . It’s not even about luxury . |

Same way we come here to lament about the hardship and how its been affecting us in different ways, there are people that will use us as a point of reference to make arguement in real life as ones that are very ok in this tinubu administration...not knowing we dey lament on nairaland daily. 1 Like |

I think both izzou n prosper are right in their own opinion.. Izzou is right if and only if there is no emergency or hospital bills .. Prosper is right cause one is supposed to have some cool cash for any un-planned emergency.. 600k a month might not give you rooms to save in this current Tinubu era..... 1 Like |

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Jodera: 6:34pm On Feb 09 |
BlueRayDick:Lol... I'm talking middle class here. I grew up going to pry sch in the early 2000s and I'll grade my parents(esp my dad as a little above middle class) and the pry school I went to is a Catholic school in Abuja. The school fees is high wrt the other schools my peers were going (as at 12k when I graduated in pry sch and other schools as at then ranges between 4-7k) yet I don't take snacks to school. The only people bringing snacks alongside food were the very rich kids and you can easily spot them. I dunno about now but even my uncle that sends his kids too doesn't add snacks to it and no, it's not a public school. It's all about instilling it sha. If our parents hear that we beg or look person food longingly, we don die for house that day. And God bless you first let you steal. Well, everyone with the way they view things sha cos we were actually taught that taking snacks alongside food is luxury. And funny enough, every of my siblings and uncles are following that approach. It's a big reason I found it surprising hearing it here, I never knew it's now normalised. As for the TV part, I still see smart TV as luxury. Most average/middle class families I know of, only few uses smart TV. Most na all these wall mounted plasma TV. It can be wide too. Shey no be just to watch TV and dstv mostly ni 1 Like |
