It’s now I know northerners know nothing about economy.

How does economy worsen or fall due to subsidy removal?

How does floating of naira destroy economy. ??

Make una Dey read before commenting.

Floating of naira should not be this devastating unless there are people hoarding foreign currencies.

Maybe if you guys start putting value to things in naira we won’t be so dependent on dollars that you don’t know how them Dey print am

Putting more money in the hands of corrupt politicians. It is a no brainer that at this point in the way Nigeria is being running.

Removing the subsidy is a mumu thing to do. The world bank and the IMF never have good intensions for Africa, know this and have peace.

That's how you can stop indirect subsidies of foods to neighbouring countries. Naira is already weak...so, our neighbors will be getting the foods very cheap.

Confession time.
I have said it that even in the US and the most advanced countries in the world, with average incomes 500 times our own and able to afford basic life needs,if fuel price had gone up and their currency devalued, both at the same time, there would have been riots in their streets because of the effect it would have on everyone.
But here,a balablu wanted to act Jackie Chan, thought he was knowledgeable when he has been found to be empty or at best sawdust brain filled;went ahead to announce both measures on his first day in office.
And like all empty brained people, when the effects of what they do or their policies start going awry, they look lost and clueless or what next to do.
This is the sad situation of our life today with Tinubu.

That it didn't cause a mass revolt of a violent nature speaks alot about Nigeria and Nigerians. Perhaps the suffering has not reached its boiling point. Perhaps it needs to intensify. When it reaches a true boiling point, we will react. Until then, we deserve it.

I was analysing all the effects of the devaluation of the naira. People around west aftican are tripping in Nigeria in mass to buy cheap produce because once they brought in there currency, they can buy many things.

Naira under APC is now worthless

China became a dominant force in the world because they made goods from their country cheapest all over the world because they have the population to produce goods. They devalued their currency so that everyone will be coming to buy, that is why devalued currency is always the war they are always having with US. How do we produce because we have the population is the question the Mandate Thief and the ignorant bunch he employed should be answering. When Peter Obi was touring the country hammering on production production, they all were laughing at him

Things have remain calm so far because Nigerians are just so resilient. Most people have been religiously wired to even think speaking against bad leaders is wrong. But if it keep getting tougher, it's a matter of time before all hell is let loose

Oga it benefit neighbouring country because it make them to buy your farm produce very cheap, thereby leading to food scarcity for the locals. For this to work, you must have surplus export over import so that it will encourage neighbourinf country to buy cheap.

But in a situation where your import is greater than your export and you went to devalue your currency, the few export u had will be fleet upon by your neighbouring countries or the international market, which will lead to scarcity for local consumption produce.

I hope I break everything down very well for you. Before you devalue, there are economics effect for it

Removal without plan was the problem. He was playing.politics with very sensitive matters. You weakened the naira and allowed our neighbors raid our food market with stronger currency without a reasonable food reserve.
Tinubu is making Buhari look like Adam Smith.

What led to naira devaluation?

What oed to subsidy removal?

Are they bereft of ideas?

If you are part of a government, and you don't iron your stuff out with your boss but come out to criticise the policies you are part of, we will look for someone else who can do your job better. This is not to support the present government or arrangement but to note that such people can never deliver anything good anywhere. Fire them.
It is our duty to criticise you for your policies while you are expected to either do the needful or resign. But if we see you rather turning on your boss, you are a bad omen. As a matter of management, you'll get your sack letter immediately.

Don't mind them, they believe that the use of American dollars in Naigeeria is the problem, The Zimbabweans use American dollars as their national currency yet Zimbabwean economy is shit. Zimbabwe has completely phased out the use of their own currency due to it's lack of value.

Re: Budget, Agriculture Ministers Fault Subsidy Removal, Floating Of Naira by Munamu: 7:07pm On Feb 09
Ordinarily, there is nothing wrong with tinubu's economic policy. The major problem is the timing. Better still , I think he spoke out of context on the day he was being inaugurated. The major advantages of devaluation are;
1) its discourages importation.
2) Its encourages local production.
3 Its increases exportation.
4) Luxury goods and services becomes almost unaffordable.

The reason why the policy is counter productive is that the needed infrastructures and amenities are not in place. For example factors like the bandits affected the agrarian population, which hindered bountiful harvest. Also our local industries are down, hence foreign goods Will continue to be sold at higher prices.
The agriculture minister should know that devaluation of a currency will lead to increased exports,as foreigners will only use few unit of their currencies to buy a lot of naira

Produce more in the face of insecurity? If there was no insecurity, we wouldn't be facing this daily increase in the price of food commodities or at least it wouldn't be as severe as we have it now
